These are not just words, these are the impressions of many people who have been there. Join them!

Sandy beaches are the most popular among tourists. Convenient access to the sea, pleasant sensations for the body, comfort for children - all this is just a small part of the advantages of the sandy shore. Greece has a huge number of such beaches. We will try to talk about some of them.

Peninsula Halkidiki

peninsula of Halkidiki

Consists of three prongs, each of which has sandy beaches. Athos is considered a closed territory. Yes it is. But the monastic state occupies far from the entire territory of the peninsula.

Its northwestern part belongs to the region of Macedonia. Access there is absolutely free. On each side of the isthmus, guests will find excellent sandy beaches.

Sithonia is wooded and mountainous, but there are also some great beach spots here - Vourvourou, Nikiti, Metamorfosi. To the south, the beaches become more and more rocky. Kassandra is famous for its family friendly hotels.

Due to the fact that the beaches are located in the depths of the bays, there are practically no waves and storms here. There is sand on the beach on the west coast - in Nea Moudania and Nea Potidea. On the east - in Kalithea, Kriopigi, Perfohori, Hanioti, Paliouri, Afitos.

Mainland Greece

For those who don't want to leave major cities, we can advise a series of beaches located near Thessaloniki, on the right bank of Thermaikos Gulf - in Perea and to the south. The left side of the bay - the Pieria area, will please the beaches in the Paralia Katerinis area.

The Athenian Riviera also has some sandy beaches to offer, but the entrance to the water here is often punctuated by pebbles. If you drive a little north of Athens, to Nea Makri, you can relax on a sandy beach.

Indented by bays, mainland Greece cannot boast of sandy beaches. The area is filled with mountains, which influenced the composition of the coastal strip. Having driven a little from the capital by sea to the island of Aegina, you can get to good sandy beaches and feast on pistachios. Local nuts are considered the best.

The entire coastal part of the bay, 10 kilometers south of the cozy town of Nafplio, is covered with sand mixed with pebbles. The west of the Peloponnese, from Kalogria to Finikundas, is a popular holiday destination for the Greeks themselves. There are huge sandy spits stretching for tens of kilometers and beaches with ideal entry into the sea.

Not far from the place Valtaki in the Laconian Gulf, there is a long sandy beach with a discarded rusty ship. "Dimitros".

Most of the sandy beaches are on the islands of Greece. After all, they cover a fifth of the entire territory of the country. Let's start with the biggest ones.

Many say that almost the entire northern part of the island is covered with sandbanks. This is true. But only in part. Many hotels cut down coastal cliffs so that guests can sit on the sand. But when entering the water, you can still "run into" on the stones. Balos is considered the ideal sandy beach. It is located far from civilization and is considered wild. But its already so "untwisted" that you will be surprised by the number of people present.

There is a lot of sand on the northwestern beaches of the island. The south is less popular in this regard, but here you can find such an option. For example, in Frangokastello. In addition, there is a beautiful medieval castle.

Opposite Crete is the island of Chrissi. Its beaches offer a beautiful view of the Cretan coast.

Rhodes

There are very few beaches with sand - Tsambika, Faliraki, Pefkos, Tholos. But a very interesting sightseeing life.

Corfu

There are sandy beaches mainly in the north and west of the island in the areas of Agios Georgios, Agios Stefanos, Paleokastritsa, Glyfada, Pelekas, Agios Gordios, Issos.

Kos

There are almost perfect white sand beaches on the coast of Tigaki, Marmari, Mastichari, Kardamena.

Snow-white pebbles, turning into coarse sand, line the bottom of the bays of this island. The unique combination with coniferous vegetation and mountain landscapes attracts vacationers here. You are guaranteed a wonderful photo session. But this is one of the northernmost islands of the Aegean, so the climate here is quite cool.

In some places, the sea is so shallow that babies can safely splash in it, and swimming takes a long time in shallow water.

Many beaches in Greece, on the contrary, have a sharply deepening sandy bottom, which attracts the attention of scuba divers. Diversify your stay at sea with traditional tourist entertainment, as well as walks on snow-white yachts and pleasure boats. To relax and enjoy the beauty and comfort on the beaches of Greece, it is best to choose hotels near the coast, and not experience inconvenience with a trip to the coast.

Elafonissi Beach

70 km from the city of Chania is the amazing Elafonissi Beach. The inhabitants of Crete themselves consider it one of the best, and tourists come here from all over the world during the high season to enjoy the crystal clear sea and extraordinary sand. The main feature of this coastline is the pinkish color of the sand, which in some places is rich and captivating.

Elafonisi - equipped beach. It has all the infrastructure necessary for a tourist. Among the amenities - changing cabins, showers, sun loungers, umbrellas. The safety of vacationers is ensured by the rescue service. In several cafes you can have a delicious lunch or a light snack. During the hot days of the holiday season, Elafonissi Beach is very crowded.

Getting to this beach is very convenient. Up to the car park located next to Elafonissi Beach, an asphalt highway leads from Chania. You can come here by bus or your own transport. Some hotels on the coast organize transfers to this beach.

“In this place, I want time to stop. Very beautiful! But the sea is shallow, shallow, to swim or dive it is better to go to the end of the beach. The water is very clean, you can even see the grains of sand at the bottom. The cafes offer mostly fast food, the prices are affordable.”

Balos Beach

Balos is located in a remote part of Crete. As a rule, tourists are brought here on ships as part of an excursion to the pirate island of Gramvousa and are allowed to enjoy the extraordinary beauty of the beach for an hour. To spend more time here, you will have to travel by car, but keep in mind that most of the way will be off-road.

There are no infrastructure facilities on Balos. There are no cafes and shops here, so it is better to take drinks with you. Absolutely "wild", but very beautiful beach. In this place, 3 seas are connected - the Ionian, Libyan and Aegean. The water itself is also unusual, looking at which you can be amazed at the number of shades of azure color.

The bay in which the beach is located is very calm. Even during a storm, there are almost no strong and high waves here. Children can splash around safely in the small bay on the left side of Balos. And on the shore you can collect very beautiful pink shells.

"Magical place! There is such a calmness and an incredible sense of freedom. Fine sand, pleasant for the feet, beautiful small shells, unusually clear water, the color of which cannot be described in words. If I could come here more often, I would choose only this beach.”

Santorini Beach

A fantastic feeling gives vacationers Santorini Beach - the Red Beach of the island. It is located at the foot of a huge rock, the fault of which provided the coastline with red mineral chips. You can arrive here by regular bus, leaving which you will have to walk several tens of meters along the rocky terrain and go down to the beach.

Santorini is quite a crowded beach. At the peak of the high season, there may not even be empty seats on it. There are no water attractions familiar to tourists, so you can relax on this beach relatively calmly. From entertainment - scuba diving or snorkeling.

Meals for vacationers are provided by several cafes located right on the beach. You can sunbathe on sunbeds arranged in 2 rows or spreading a mat right on the red sand. This is a great place to admire the incredibly beautiful combination of colors of the terracotta beach and the turquoise sea with clear, transparent water.

“Amazingly beautiful beach! We arrived here by boat by sea - depart every half an hour. It was very difficult to find a free sunbed, there are a lot of people here. From staying in this part of the island, you can get indescribable impressions, take beautiful photos and just enjoy a great vacation.”

Anthony Quinn Beach

Cozy Anthony Quinn Beach is especially popular with vacationers. It is located in a quiet bay, and the most convenient way to get here is from the city of Faliraki, which is 4 km away. The coastline is curved in the form of an arc, and a high cliff rises above the beach.

The beach is famous for the fact that Hollywood actor Anthony Quinn was once filmed here in the famous film. He was so fascinated by the nature of these places that he acquired coastal land as his property. There are sun loungers and umbrellas, the rent of which is paid, and there is also a bar on a small hill where you can admire the incredible beauty of the emerald sea with a glass of soft drink.

The coastline is sand and pebble. At the entrance to the sea, there are stones, and in some places huge boulders, on which sunbathers lie. In the high season, Anthony Quinn Beach is full of young people who are attracted by all kinds of water activities. There is a dock in the bay where small ships, yachts and boats moor.

“The place is very beautiful, picturesque, but there are so many people that it is not very comfortable to rest. There may not be enough sunbeds if you come at lunch, so it's best to come to the beach at 11 o'clock. In some areas, the entrance to the sea is difficult due to stones.

Manganari Beach

A delightful sandy beach, which has repeatedly been awarded the "blue flag". It is located in the south of the island of Ios in Greece. Manganari is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. It is protected from strong winds by high mountain slopes, so the weather here is always comfortable and pleasant, and the sea is slightly warmer than on other beaches.

The large territory of Manganari Beach allows you to relax even at the peak of the high season, when a huge number of tourists come to the island. Comfortable sun loungers and umbrellas are placed along the entire beach, in the shade of which you can hide from the sun. The sandy coastal strip is convenient both for a relaxing pastime and for active entertainment, which is enough on this beach in Greece.

Manganari Beach is very fond of young people and families with children. Soft golden sand, clear, azure sea and many small taverns provide a pleasant and carefree holiday. You can get to the beach both by water and by land. Shuttle buses run regularly from Hora during the holiday season, delivering vacationers to the beach.

“Very clean and nice. You feel such bliss from warm clear water! The sand is soft, without pebbles. The entrance to the sea is pleasant, like walking on wet flour. Everywhere is very clean, the beach is well equipped. There are a lot of people, but there are free sunbeds. I highly recommend this beach."

Egremni Beach

One of the most beautiful and mysterious beaches of Lefkada. It attracts vacationers with a warm emerald-azure sea and small white pebbles that are pleasant to the touch. High rocky cliffs hang over Egremni Beach, which do not allow the construction of bars and cafes on this beach. Leaving the car in the car park, tourists will have to go down to the beach, overcoming a long staircase of 350 steps.

Egremni Beach is not a very crowded beach. Here you can see girls sunbathing topless. The eastern part of the beach is distinguished by a sharp entrance to the sea with a deep bottom, so there are almost no tourists with children in this part. High waves roll up to the shore, swimming here is recommended only for those who do not doubt their ability to swim perfectly.

On the beach there is one bar that sells soft drinks and snacks. Sunbed rentals are chargeable. In the southern part of Egremni Beach, the depth of the sea is so deep that pleasure boats sail right up to the shore to land tourists on the beach.

“We rested on this beach in July. The sea is warm, but the waves are very high. Indescribable beauty! The choice of drinks at the local beach is not too large, the prices are reasonable. Finding a free sun lounger is not a problem. Even during the peak season, there are not very many people here, which for me personally is a big advantage.”

Sarakiniko Beach

Sarakiniko occupies a cozy cove on the northwestern coast of the island of Ios. On this incredibly beautiful coastline with white sand, both tourists and locals prefer to relax. During the high season, Greeks come here with their families to enjoy the warm water of the Ionian Sea and the gentle rays of the sun.

Sarakiniko Beach is spacious and wide. It is surrounded by mountain slopes covered with green vegetation. Relaxing on this beach is a pleasure. Fine sand dissolves in water, and the sea against its background acquires a unique azure hue. Sun loungers and umbrellas are scattered throughout Sarakiniko, which can be rented for a few euros. Even during the peak season it is not crowded here.

In the central part of the beach there are several small bars where you can order drinks. Above Sarakiniko Beach on a hill is a car park. The presence of a place for cars attracts many car travelers. You can also get to the beach by shuttle bus.

“We had a wonderful time at this beach. Two sun loungers and an umbrella cost us 6 euros. We arrived at Sarakiniko in the lunch area, there were few people, but literally an hour later the beach was filled with vacationers. The sea is calm, the water is clear, very beautiful rocks surround the shore. There is nowhere to eat, except that you can buy some snacks at the bar.”

Myrtos Beach

The famous Myrtos Beach is located in the western part of the island of Kefalonia. It is comfortably located at the foot of two mountains - Agia Dinati and Kalon Oros. It is rightfully considered one of the best beaches in Greece, which is regularly awarded the Blue Flag. Myrtos is arched in the shape of a crescent, and light waves with snow-white foam are nailed to the shore.

You can hide from the bright sun on the beach under large umbrellas by paying a rent of a few euros. Sun loungers are placed along the beach for the convenience of vacationers. There is a small bar located right on the beach where you can buy food and drinks. In calm weather, the sea caresses the eye with its beauty and serenity, and on windy days high waves rise. On the left side of Myrtos there are several picturesque grottoes.

The peculiarity of this beach is the sharply deepening bottom of the sea. Already when entering the water after a few steps, the depth becomes very significant. The most convenient way to get to Myrtos Beach is by shuttle buses and cars. Near the coastline is the picturesque village of Diwarata, and on the way to the beach, you can stop at several viewpoints from where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the coast.

“Amazing beach, nice white sand, clear blue water. Swimming in the sea is a pleasure, no jellyfish, no algae either. The area is well looked after. Everywhere is very clean. The only negative is that there is nowhere to eat, the bars sell only drinks and snacks.”

Faliraki Beach

Faliraki is a heavenly place and the most famous beach in Rhodes. It stretches for 4 km along the coast, is divided into small sections, among which there is even a beach intended for nudists. At the peak of the high season, the beaches are very crowded and noisy. For the entertainment of tourists, there are all kinds of attractions, rental of equipment for water sports, various bars, taverns and shops.

Near the coast, the sea is shallow, which allows even children to swim safely. There are fewer people on the left side of Faliraki, so it is chosen by connoisseurs of a relaxing holiday, as well as nudists. Once upon a time, there were no large settlements in this part of the coast. Not far from the beach there was a small fishing village, which today has turned into a fashionable resort with many hotels and inns.

Entrance to Faliraki is free. For a few euros, you can rent an umbrella with two sunbeds or settle down by spreading a towel or rug right on the white sand.

“This is a wonderful place! Soft sand without stones, clear, transparent sea, lots of sun and beautiful surroundings with rocks. There are wooden paths on the beach to make it comfortable to walk. You can take a shower or change clothes for free in the booths that are located all over the beach.”

Navagio Beach

The most famous beach in Greece. Once Navagio Beach had a different name, but the shipwreck of a smuggler ship made it famous and recognizable. In the central part of the beach, you can still see the remains of a wrecked ship, covered with white sand and pebbles. Against the backdrop of the blue sea, they look especially impressive.

This beach in Greece is one of the most popular. It is considered necessary to visit tourists arriving on the island of Zakynthos. The coastal area is not too large, so when a lot of tourists arrive at the peak of the season, the beach becomes crowded and noisy.

The most convenient way to get to the beach is by water. In the port of Porto Vromi you can take a boat or use the services of a pleasure boat. To borrow best places, it is best to come ashore in the afternoon hours. The infrastructure of Navagio Beach allows you to feel comfortable and relax carefree and pleasant. There are showers, changing cabins and the usual traditional beach activities.

“The impressions are simply amazing. Very beautiful landscapes, overhanging mountains, blue sea with several shades. The impression of all this beauty is spoiled by a large number of ships and boats constantly arriving to the shore. When you swim, it seems that they will run over your head.

- the time when numerous tourists arrive on the islands from different countries. The subtropical Mediterranean climate is favorable for health, and even the 40-degree heat is easily transferred to the coast. The best sandy beaches in Greece

Magnificent sandy beaches can be found on different parts of the coast: in the popular resorts of the mainland and islands, in public and remote bays.

On Rhodes, Faliraki is considered the best beach for youth recreation, stretching along the coast for more than 4 km. The sand here is fine and golden in color. The territory is divided into several sections, including a small nudist beach.

Not far from Faliraki is a cozy heavenly beach Anthony Quinn, which received world fame and name thanks to the film "Zorba the Greek" filmed here with the participation of Anthony Quinn. The bay was chosen by divers; it can be crowded on the shore in the high season.

Despite the inaccessibility, the beach of Balos Bay in Crete constantly attracts tourists. The uniqueness of the bay is in its location: in this place the waters of three seas join - the Ionian, Aegean and Libyan. The result is extraordinary seascapes: the shades of the water in the bay are constantly changing throughout the day.

A special place among the sandy beaches is occupied by Elafonisi in the western part of Crete: the lagoon and the beach are famous for their pink shell sand.

In search of unusual beaches, you can drive along the resort coast of Santorini. Two of the most noteworthy places are Kamari Beach with gray-black volcanic sand and Red Beach surrounded by rocks.
