Resorts on the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan: reviews, photos. The best beaches in Baku What is the name of the sea in Baku

“Sea holidays” - everyone puts their own meaning into this concept. Some people definitely want to lie down on the sand, enjoy the warm rays of the sun and the splash of sea waves. And for some it’s a boat trip or scuba diving. In Azerbaijan, everything is possible, but the main thing is to sunbathe on the beach, wander along the hot sand and photograph seascapes.

Azerbaijan is a unique case when most of the existing climatic zones (9 out of 11) occur within one country: from dry and humid subtropical (Lankaran) to mountain tundra (highlands of the Greater Caucasus). Moreover, a significant part of the country is located in the subtropical zone.

And it is not surprising that the favorable climate - early spring, mild winters and plenty of sun - make the Caspian coast of Azerbaijan a center of beach tourism in summer. Formally, the beach season on most of the Absheron coast lasts from June to September. Some brave souls go there in May and even in April. But let's talk about everything in order and start with the arrival in Azerbaijan.

Baku - the city of the present, past and future

There are several ways to travel to Baku. So, from Georgia - by plane, train, car or bus, from Kyiv - both by plane and by train, and from Moscow to Baku - by plane and train.

Every year, in order to swim in warm waters The Caspian Sea, admire the stunning local landscapes and, of course, take a break from the everyday hustle and bustle, thousands of guests come to Azerbaijan.

The sea in Azerbaijan is so attractive to tourists not only because of its affordable prices, good level of service and favorable nature. Holidays here are extremely beneficial for health. Healing sea air, ecology and healing sea water Caspian Sea have a healing effect.

Weather on the Caspian Sea

The Absheron Peninsula has a subtropical climate. Therefore, Baku always has mild, short winters and hot, long summers. Despite the fact that Baku is located at the same latitude as Italy or Greece, it experiences less rainfall and the average annual temperature is slightly higher. Ideal beach months are July and August, when the water warms up to 20-25 degrees.

Safety of beaches on the shores of the Caspian Sea

Conventionally, beaches in Azerbaijan are divided into comfortable and wild. The former are usually equipped with beach cabins, sun loungers, awnings, toilets, parking and catering points. All of these amenities come with a fee that starts at $3.

Rescuers from the Ministry of Emergency Situations are monitoring the entire beach.

“Wild” beaches are practically not equipped with anything; no one is responsible for cleanliness and safety there. Wild beach You can name any section of the coast, and its main danger lies in the unpredictability of the bottom and currents.

The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Azerbaijan Republic determines which beaches in Azerbaijan you can swim on even before the start of the summer season.

What to take to the Caspian Sea

You should pay close attention to what you pack when going swimming at the beginning of the season. It's unlikely you'll forget your swimsuit or swim trunks, but there are plenty of things to think about ahead of time. For example, you should pay attention to whether the place you have chosen is equipped with sun loungers; if not, do not forget to take a rug or a large towel. A hat is required for both adults and children. If you are located on the shore in the shade, keep in mind that you will still be swimming in the direct rays of the sun, so do not forget a cap and sunscreen.

There are many public beach areas along the Caspian coast - these are Shikh, Novkhani, Mardakan, Zagulba, Govsany, Nardaran. Moreover, the leaders in popularity are the beaches in Mardakan and Novkhani.

Speaking about well-maintained beaches, we must remember that in Azerbaijan they are still divided into public and paid. But if you want comfort, then even the “free” ones will have to be spent. For example, you can rent umbrellas on public beaches for $3, table and chairs for $6, order tea with sweets for $4-6, buy boiled corn for $0.62, and ice cream for $1 to $4. At the same time, such beaches have the main thing for a complete holiday on the coast - a clean coast, sea and golden sand.

On the sandy seabed in Bilgya and Zagulba, it is easy to spot fry and hermit crabs. Vacationers here are offered to ride a catamaran and a water scooter.

Shih

Here the seabed is not rocky, the sea is covered by land on three sides, and even in strong winds big waves is not observed, which ensures water transparency. However, the beaches cannot boast of clean water - largely due to their proximity to the city limits and oil fields. It is believed that the sea here is not suitable for everyday swimming due to emissions.

Also, annual monitoring carried out by the relevant services of the Ministry of Health reveals an unfavorable microbiological background. However, despite the official ban, the beach season in this area is open and proximity to the city is the first reason for visiting it.

Entrance here will cost vacationers from $3-6 to $13-17, costs depend on the package of services - parking, gazebo, changing rooms, showers. Renting a table with chairs costs $3-6, a locker room costs $0.60, and use of a shower costs $0.62 to $1.

Beaches in Azerbaijan are the most popular holiday destination. Where else to go from the concrete labyrinth in 40-degree heat, if not to the nearest beach.

Paid beaches on the Absheron Peninsula have long turned into a separate business for hotels and private entrepreneurs.

Baku beaches are increasingly becoming overgrown with restaurants, bars, cafes and teahouses, which often turn into discos and karaoke clubs in the late afternoon.

For those who do not want to risk swimming in the sea, there is a water park with swimming pools, water slides, attractions, showers and sun loungers. All of the above services are included in the one-time entrance fee, which ranges from $6 to $10.

Mardakan

The Mardakan coast is considered one of the best in Baku in terms of the purity of sea water and bottom. Meanwhile, public beaches in this metropolitan village are designed for the budget of a family with an average income. Tables, chairs and umbrellas are paid, but not expensive, the most expensive pleasure is riding a jet ski, it will cost $13 for 10 minutes.

There are always rescuers on the shore, and in the last season, representatives of the police patrol service and ambulances have been on duty here.

Along the coast it is easy to find many cafes and restaurants where you can not only quench your thirst with tea and soft drinks, but also have a snack. A visit to the beach in one of the best zones in Mardakan Khazar Golden Beach.

Bilgah and Nardaran

On the beaches of Bilgah and Nardaran there is always a clear bottom and sea, pebbles are scattered along the entire shore, and in some areas there is soft, fine sand. The entrance fee to the Amburan Beach Club in Bilgah and Sea Breeze in Nardaran will be slightly higher than on the Mardakan beaches. In addition to relaxing by the pools or on the clean beach, they will offer a lot of entertainment for vacationers - a mini-cinema, scooters, beach parties, and a bar.

Prices in Amburan:
Depending on the day of visiting, admission is set at $8-15. Entry with your own products is strictly prohibited, and the fine for this can be as much as $31.

The Sea Breeze zone is more attractive in terms of prices and comfort. Entrance and use of the pool here costs $13, with umbrellas, sun loungers and towels provided free of charge. By the way, this summer the Heat festival took place here, bringing together the stars of Russian show business.

Buzovna

The cheapest holiday is on the beaches near the Absheron village of Buzovna. The cost of using a shower stall is $0.62, renting a table and chairs is $3, and a lounge chair is $2. However, you should know that, unlike other beaches, the sea here has a rocky bottom, so you need to be careful when swimming in windy weather.

Novkhani

The beaches in Novkhany deserve special attention; they are increasingly becoming overgrown with restaurants, cafes and tea houses. True, unlike other beaches, there is more dampness here and smog is common. But the recreation areas are located closest to the residential areas of the capital, so the road to the sea will take about half an hour.

Tables and chairs can be rented here for $4-7, entry to the beach area by car will cost from $0.6 to $1, kebabs can be enjoyed for $3 per serving, regular tea costs $3, and a tea set with sweets costs $6. Horseback riding is also popular here and costs $1.

You can increasingly see scooters on the beach. They will gladly give you a ride on it for $6, providing you with a life jacket and advice from an instructor.

Water parks at the resorts of the Caspian Sea

Resorts of the Caspian Sea in last years are actively developing the construction of new modern hotels of various categories, including five-star hotels of the European level. All of them have well-kept private beaches where you can relax in comfort and pleasure. Prices start from $10 to $22.

If you are interested in inexpensive family holiday, then it is worth considering the tourist complex AF Hotel & Aqua Park (from $25 per person per day). It has everything you need for an ideal family holiday, including its own water park.

The coastline in Azerbaijan stretches for hundreds of kilometers, so you can relax by the sea both in Baku and in the regions of Azerbaijan.

Rest in Nabran

This resort village has everything you need for a fun and rewarding holiday.

On the shores of the Caspian Sea there is a beautiful resort village - Nabran. Here you can enjoy beaches and magnificent forests. Nabran invites its guests to visit a variety of cozy cafes, gourmet restaurants and nightclubs. People come here not only on vacation, but also just on weekends.

You can get to Nabran: From Heydar Aliyev Airport you can take a taxi to the Baku bus station for $12. Then there are two options: either order a taxi to Nabran for $40 (or $10 per person, along with fellow travelers), or take a bus for $4.

Black sand in Lankaran

The most popular type of recreation in subtropical Lankaran can be called beach.

The warm Caspian Sea and healing black sand will increase your vitality and improve your mood. Against the backdrop of black sand, the sea seems more transparent. Another feature of Lankaran beaches is that there is no need to place umbrellas to hide from the sun, since numerous trees create a pleasant shade.

You can get to Lankaran: From Heydar Aliyev Airport you can take a taxi to the Baku bus station for $12. Further travel by bus will cost $5, by taxi - $31 (per person - $6).

As you already understood from our story, Azerbaijan has beaches for every taste - both pebble and sand, with a clean bottom and a rocky one. And how pleasant it is to walk on the hot sand, passing it between your fingers, collect shells, and enjoy the gentle surf. The beaches of the Caspian coast give pure and bright emotions.

Come with children or friends, arrange a family vacation or romantic trip. Guests are always welcome in Azerbaijan!

Baku is located on the shores of the Caspian Sea, but there are no beaches within the city, and even if there were, you would hardly want to swim there because of the oil, fuel oil, sewer pipes and other waste from the capital.

Consider Azerbaijan as a destination for beach holiday I wouldn’t, but going to the sea on a hot sunny day is very cool.

In the surrounding area (15-40 km) there are several free and paid beaches. We were on Bilgya beach in October. It’s already cold to swim in the sea at this time, the season is over, so I’ll just show you the photos below.

Caspian Sea

Shikhova— free beach 13 km south of the center of Baku, relax “ simple people" (this quote). I wasn't impressed by the photo, so we didn't stop by. He's on his way to . If you go by car, you can drop by at Shikhov.

Mardakan(Mardakan) - 40 km east of Baku. Many people recommend the beaches in the area of this village. There are also paid and free ones. During the season there are changing rooms, sun loungers, umbrellas, and a cafe. There is a Dalga Beach water park (25 manat on weekdays, 35 manat on Sunday).

Novkhani(Novxani) - beaches with white shell sand, there are free and paid (May Beach is not bad).

I haven’t been to these beaches, so it’s better to google other people’s reviews.

If you have vacationed in Mardakan, Novkhani, it would be great if you share your impressions in the comments.

Beaches near Baku on the map:

Bilgya

Amburan Beach in Bilgah

The village of Bilgya is located on the seashore 30 km north of Baku. There is a KGB sanatorium and some other sanatoriums there. We were on the beach Amburan in Bilgah.

Summer entrance 25 manat, free in October. Judging by the reviews, this is one of the most decent options on the Absheron Peninsula, so we went there, even though it was a little far from Baku.

Very much! There are sun loungers, umbrellas, and a cafe. The sand is yellow-gray, there is little debris.

Unexpectedly clean sand
Someone even swims in the distance

At the northern end of the beach, the Bilgah Estates Villas complex was built; I couldn’t find any cheap housing in this area on the Internet.

How to get there

Uber or a simple taxi from Baku costs 15-20 manat.

If you plan to go to the beaches by transport, then enter your point of departure and destination in Google Maps, it will give the numbers of suitable buses.

From Koroglu metro station to Bilgya the bus is coming 171 for 40 kopecks, on the way 40 minutes. The final stop is near the Cardiological Sanatorium, then you need to walk 15 minutes from the hill to the sea along the fence.

My reviews about the beaches near Baku

It would be strange to write any reviews after visiting only one beach, and even then in the low season :) The sea is beautiful, the sand is clean. I don’t know what happens here in the summer.

At one time I was looking for a city in the Caucasus near the sea, where I could go during the autumn months. I considered Baku and (chose Batumi). Now, having visited the beaches of Azerbaijan, I understand that for a long stay (month+) this is not an option for me.

In Batumi there is a beach and infrastructure (markets, shops, some entertainment), and in Baku there is infrastructure, but you need to travel far to the beach, and in September-October there is no longer a season here, but in Batumi in these months you can was to swim in the sea.

If the presence of beaches does not matter, then you can safely go to Baku in the fall for a change. not much higher than in Batumi. In autumn, Azerbaijan is warm, green, beautiful, and there is always something to do.

Clean sea and warm wind to you!

Your Mila Demenkova

Chug-chug, chug-chug...Tut-Tut! – we are going by train – to the capital of Azerbaijan.

The conductor promised to turn on the air conditioning as soon as the train started, but apparently she forgot about her promise.

Chug-chug, chug-chug...Tut-Tut! – but we are not discouraged, since we have 3 liters of Georgian wine, 2 liters of chacha and 4 packets of white seeds...

The train moves slowly and while it trudges towards the Georgia-Azerbaijan border, I’ll tell you how we bought tickets for this train.

We took a taxi and got from the train station for 4 GEL.
If you enter the Tbilisi railway station, don’t immediately faint. Yes, it's all over here shopping centers. Ticket offices are located on the last, inconspicuous floor

The box office does not accept cards, only cash. I don’t remember how much the tickets cost.
The only thing I can say is that after paying an additional 20 GEL we went to best restaurant Georgian cuisine outside of Tbilisi. Remember, I wrote that khinkali in Tbilisi should be eaten at Khinkali House?

So - khinkali and in general everything that Georgian cuisine offers outside of Tbilisi must be eaten in a restaurant Salobie (სალობიე)

Chug-chug, chug-chug...Tut-Tut! – we arrived at the border. Georgian border guards collect passports, and customs officers briefly inspect the luggage with their eyes fixed on the standing battery.

- Wah! - have a good rest

We've been standing at the border for an hour. Nobody is in a hurry. People smoke on the street - smoking is prohibited on the train.

Ikrinka meets a Georgian grandmother who makes khachapuri with meat in front of you - she rolls out the dough, puts in the minced meat, and puts it in the oven.

Chatting with her for now. She tells how they fled from Abkhazia: they took almost nothing with them, they ran away naked.

But nevertheless he wants to return home and misses home very much
He loves Russians - there is no offense: the grandmother smiles warmly and when she smiles, her face is covered with a dense network of wrinkles...

Chug-chug, chug-chug...Tut-Tut! – we crossed the Georgian border and are approaching the border of Azerbaijan.

The border guard looks at our passports.
– Have you been to Armenia?
- Yes they were. We've actually been to a lot of places.

Having ignored the memorized tirade that Armenians are not Caucasians, I ask you to put a stamp - “here we are”

Then they silently photograph me and carefully place a stamp where they showed me.
The customs officer who comes up is only interested in Armenian cognac. He doesn’t pay attention to our stocks of Georgian booze. in vain - we have the remains of Armenian apricot vodka with the corresponding inscription on the label.

Nevertheless, cognac is found and confiscated from Russian tourists in the carriage. No amount of demands or swearing helps...

Chug-chug, chug-chug...Tut-Tut! – we are driving through the territory of Azerbaijan.
Delicious hot khachapuri self made and Mukuzani from a cut glass and now it’s getting dark and it’s time to sleep.

The air conditioner started working, but it was turned off in the middle of the night, so in the morning I wake up all wet.

At the station we brush off the taxi drivers and change money. Or rather, I change it - 200 dollars for seeds, because they give me very little for two green pieces of paper, according to my Armenian-Georgian habit.

The exchange rate of the manat is equal to the euro, and the euro is more expensive than the dollar.

We have a hotel suite booked in Baku Gyz Galasi

The hotel is well located - in the heart of a clean and renovated Old town, Near Maiden Tower

These tentacles growing from the mountain cause some kind of fear during the day, and in the evening, when they glow, it’s very nice and joyful.

We check in and go sightseeing in Baku

Transport in Baku

There are taxis in Baku that operate on a meter. I don’t recommend getting into a taxi without a meter - you get tired of haggling - people simply don’t realize that independent tourists know the value of money and know how much a taxi should cost using the example of Moscow, New York, London and Tbilisi

Metered taxis – cabs – are the best option for getting around the city.
Especially when you agree with the driver that you will pay a fixed amount for a day trip.

We ordered our cab at the reception of our hotel. The driver spoke Russian well, was clean and decent these two days, and I can’t say anything bad about cab drivers in Baku since I don’t know any others.

Sights of Baku

I wrote separately about the sights of Baku:

What to eat in Baku

Next we have lunch as planned.
We are going to have lunch at a place that our driver knows.
It's outside the city. Not far from his part-time home.
Door in the fence. You enter, and inside there is an oasis from the dust and brown color of the surrounding space outside.
But there are not enough peacocks...

Azerbaijani cuisine

I wrote separately about Azerbaijani cuisine:

In general, you won't be spoiled. After a trip to Azerbaijan, you need to exercise hard to lose the kilograms you have gained.
Most of the restaurants we are in now do not have a menu. They tell you what they have, so you order.
Also, in these restaurants there is no bill - the cost of your lunch will be announced to you by looking at the sky and picking your nose. But I think if they are deceived, it won’t be by much.

In the city, eating in a restaurant will be more expensive.
So, our lunch of a bunch of appetizers, kofta shashlik, lula kebab, vodka and wine cost us 60 manats for three. The driver refused to eat with us and drank tea.
By the way, it’s a good tradition to start serving tea before meals. My sweet tooths also serve it with cherry jam – Ikrinka and Oleg whipped up a bowl at a time

What do they drink in Azerbaijan?

Men drink vodka. Yes, yes, despite the fact that Azerbaijan is a Muslim state, it is still a secular (Soviet) state: women here walk around with their heads open and in miniskirts, they don’t harass girls on the streets and everything is just like in ordinary cities with a Christian orientation.

So you understand - men drink vodka and this is correct: hot lamb for proper absorption in the stomach should be flavored with grams of vodka.
They also drink juices. But I was horrified - a country where entire regions grow pomegranates has freshly squeezed pomegranate juice on the menu at a price of 35 euros per liter!

That’s why they drink cherry plum compotes or tea. They drink beer less often and wine very rarely, because wine in Azerbaijan is rubbish. Beer, by the way, is also rubbish.
Therefore, I recommend drinking vodka with tea, and top it with pomegranate juice or compote

Caspian Sea, beaches in Baku

We went to see the Caspian Sea. See the beaches in Baku (not in the city itself, of course - outside the city).

Well, what can I say, although Oleg wet his feet, and Ikrinka wet his hands - and now they have every right to say that they were on the Castian Sea. I limited myself to just a couple of photographs of this thing called the beach.

No guys! I won’t give you a machine gun - I won’t swim here.

What else can you see in Baku

You can stroll along the embankment and watch the lights come on in the city. You can go to the boulevard and stroll along expensive shops looking at the fountains, you can take the funicular up to the observation deck from which you can see the city and where the Flame Towers menacingly hang over you like the tentacles of a huge octopus. That's probably all.

2 days were enough for us to see the city: it is clean, modern and safe

Regarding the enmity of Azerbaijanis with Armenians: our driver said that during the Karabakh war he hid an Armenian family at home with whom he had previously been friends, before the war

But now he wouldn’t communicate with Armenians, and the point is not that they are unpleasant to him - it’s just that if he communicates with them, his neighbors will stop greeting him and he will become an outcast

Now a similar scenario is being realized here at home: Russia and Ukraine. And in this regard I would like to say:

- Let's stop sorting things out by force, swearing and fighting.
– Let’s be friends, go visit each other, drink wine and eat delicious food from the heart!

I’ll end with this, yours Vinsky

Best resorts

Most tourists prefer to relax at sea in Azerbaijan in 2019 near the capital of this country - Baku. Travelers are accommodated in suburban resorts, since the beaches in the city itself are unsuitable for swimming. On the coastal strip of the Absheron Peninsula, which is part of Greater Baku, many comfortable modern hotels with swimming pools and private beach areas have been built. They provide excellent conditions for swimming and sunbathing. In addition to beach holidays, tourists can go diving, ride hydro scooters and water skis.

Which coastal resorts around Baku are the most popular among tourists? In the village Bilgya, which is located 40 km from the capital of Azerbaijan, parents with children willingly stop. The sea here is shallow, and next to the municipal beach you can relax at the luxury beach area - Amburan Beach Club. Entrance to it costs from 16 to 25 AZN. Prices for holidays on paid beaches in Azerbaijan depend on the day of the week. On weekdays they are slightly lower, and on weekends they are higher.

Resort Zagulba 70 km from Baku. It is famous for its crystal clear waters and rocky seabed. There are three paid beaches in Zagulba - Mirvani, Heather and Sherlock.
