How to get cheaply and quickly from Girona to Barcelona. From Girona airport to Barcelona and back Travel to Girona from Barcelona

When you go on holiday to Catalonia (Spain), somewhere on the Costa Brava, you may not spend your entire vacation lying on the beach. After all, this is a region known for its historical and cultural attractions. Firstly, this is Barcelona, with the Gothic quarter, the Cathedral of St. Eulalia, the buildings of the great Gaudi, Ramblas...

Secondly, Girona. Also the capital of the province. Despite the fact that it is a small town, compared to Barcelona, it amazes the traveler with its architectural ensemble and the wealth of medieval buildings and fortresses per square kilometer. Therefore, if you manage to see both of these amazing places, you will only benefit from it.

In this article we will look at different ways to get from Barcelona to Girona on your own, and give advice to tourists regarding the convenience and cheapness of each option.

Automobile

If you have your own or a rented car on vacation, then you will very easily and quickly cope with the Barcelona - Girona route. How to get from one city to another by car? Nothing could be simpler. The distance between both cities along the highway is no more than one hundred kilometers. You take the AP-7 (Mediterranean) highway and within fifty minutes you are near Girona.

To get into the city, take the fourth exit. True, there are toll sections in this direction. Therefore, get ready to shell out nine euros, not counting the cost of gasoline. It is advised to pay in cash and not by card, otherwise you will have problems with your credit card for several days. And if you are not in a hurry, then drive along the free roads along the sea. The views from the car window are simply enchanting.

All roads are in good condition. In addition, Girona has large free parking lots, from where the historic city center can be easily reached on foot in a few minutes.

Train

This is the easiest and probably fastest way to cover the distance between two cities - Barcelona, Girona. How to get there by train? To do this, you need to get to one of Barcelona's train stations - the best one is Passage de Grazia. From there, trains to Girona run almost every thirty minutes or hour, depending on the time of day. The station is underground. To get down to it, you need to get to Passage de Grazia and find the entrance to the station located just in front of this building. When you get underground, you will find signs directing you to Renfe - these are the Spanish railways.

You can also travel from Barcelona Sants or Plaza Catalunya train stations. Girona is not the final station of these trains. To get there, you need to look for the directions “Figueras” and “Port Bo”.

It is best to use medium-distance trains - they are moderate in price and run faster. Electric trains (“serkanyas”) will cost less, but they are not very profitable in terms of time. It takes about an hour to travel by medium-distance train one way, and the journey costs approximately 15 euros. High-speed trains reach there in forty minutes and cost twenty euros. Tickets can be purchased both at the box office and on the Renfe website.

Bus

This type of transport can be used mainly between Barcelona and Girona airports. How to get there by bus from the center To do this you need to use special lines. For example, this is Barcelona Bass. Its flights are often tailored to coincide with Ryanair departures. The bus leaves from Gare du Nord.

Other flights rarely stop at Barcelona. They go straight to El Prat del Llobregat airport. If you still want to travel by bus, there are several flights from the Sagales company from Barcelona. They depart from the Fabre et Puige station.

Recently, Ryanair buses began running from the Northern Station of the Catalan capital to the center of Girona. But at the same time, you need to clarify which of them do not go to the airport - they are all similar.

You can also get there with transfers. First, take a bus to the main station of the Costa Brava - Lloret de Mar. The ALSA carrier goes to this resort town. And from there you have to wait for the flight to Girona.

Where to go from the stations

But now you have already traveled the entire route Barcelona - Girona by public transport. How can you now get to some attractions - in fact, to what you came here for? Nothing could be simpler. Both the bus station and the railway station of Girona are located on. From here you need to walk about a quarter of an hour to the historical center of the city. Along the way you will see a lot of boutiques, shops and cafes, some in new buildings, while others are two hundred years old. There is also such an interesting phenomenon as covered passages and galleries. So in case of bad weather, you can not only hide from the rain, but also walk from one establishment to another, remaining dry.

If you flew to Catalonia on one of the low-cost airlines, then most likely it will land in one of the small hubs. This is Girona Airport. It is not in the city center, so it will be far from the train station. But from here you can easily get to Barcelona North Bus Station. It is located almost in the center of the capital of Catalonia. You just need to get on a special bus. It's called Barcelona Bass. Its stop is located at the exit from the airport to the right.

Costa Brava Airport is located in Spanish Catalonia near the city of Girona. It is also convenient to travel to Barcelona and the Pyrenees. The annual flow of passengers at the air hub has experienced ups and downs: its maximum number was more than 5.5 million in 2008, and in recent years this number has dropped to 2 million, which is also a significant amount.

http://www.girona-airport.cat. The text is available in four languages: English, Spanish, Catalan and French.

The airport's operations began in 1965. For many years it was not a very visited airport. That all changed in the 2000s when Ryanair turned the airport into one of its hubs. Today the airport is in great demand due to the fact that it is conveniently located and there are a sufficient number of transport routes around. The choice of passengers is also due to the fact that it is easy to get from Girona to Barcelona, where the flow of passengers is more intense. It is the closest airport to the Costa Brava, besides Girona, and can be easily reached by any means of transport.

Structure of Girona Airport

The old airport terminal, which was built when it opened, was demolished in order to expand the runway. To replace the previous building, a new comfortable terminal was built, work on which continues to this day.

Outside the airport there are car parks, car rental services, bus terminals and taxi services. This is done for convenient and quick movement of passengers. Inside, the building is clearly structured and divided into zones.

Ground floor of the terminal

The first floor is divided into departure and arrival areas. The following establishments and counters are located in the departure area:

  • cafeteria;
  • restaurant;
  • kiosk with books, stationery and local or international newspapers;
  • ATM;
  • information desk open 24 hours a day;
  • area with wireless Internet;
  • telephone booth (you can call by placing a coin in the machine);
  • Mailbox;
  • means for comfortable movement and stay at the airport for persons with disabilities;
  • toilets, which are also equipped with stalls for the disabled;
  • lost and found;
  • local tour operator's office.

There are 33 counters and self-service points for passenger check-in. Counters 1-4 also serve to check the weight of luggage before check-in. It’s usually quiet and peaceful here, so you can slowly redistribute your belongings to avoid paying extra for overweight.

The arrival area is equipped with baggage belts and passport control counters. There are vending machines with snacks and drinks, and a cafeteria. This part of the airport also has an ATM, telephone and wi-fi zone. Arriving passengers can contact the tour operator's office or local police station if necessary. At the exit there are car rental and taxi services.

Second floor

Escalators and elevators lead to the second floor of the airport. The landing and customs control area is located here. It is important to read the recommendations on permitted and prohibited items in advance. On the second floor of the terminal you can find fast food restaurants, duty-free shops, ATMs, Internet and telephone, as well as smoking areas and toilets.

Departure schedules and flight information

The online display board of Girona Airport can be found not only on the website of the air hub, but also with a corresponding request in search engines. This is more convenient if you do not speak a foreign language. The arrival and departure board can also be found in the “Departures” section on the airport website.

This is not quite a traditional flight schedule panel. Here is a search form where you can find any departures and arrivals anywhere in the world, book or find a suitable ticket, read information about taxi or car rental services and much more.

The airport cooperates with a small number of airlines, including the Russian Pobeda. Its main destinations are located in Europe, as well as Moscow and Malta. The majority of flights are operated by Ryanair, for which it is the third largest hub in Europe.
