“Gorki Gorod” (formerly Mountain Carousel) after the Olympics launched a new ski area “Eastern Sector”. Currently there are about 25 km of slopes, 4 gondola lifts and 8 chair lifts.

The resort infrastructure is well developed. Many shops (including grocery stores), a large shopping and entertainment center, laundry, kindergartens and mountain schools.

How to get to Mountain Carousel?

You can get there by your own car. There is enough parking space next to the ski lift and in the courtyards of Gorki Gorod. There is also underground parking, which is conveniently located directly below the ski lift, although it is not always open. True, the cost of parking is 700 rubles. in a day.

What do we see upon arrival? Two levels of resort with hotels, shops and restaurants.

And then they actually built a whole city of hotels with a capacity of more than 3,000 rooms. True, the capacity of the lifts is less, but it is not a fact that such a quantity of housing will be filled.

At the moment, new shops, restaurants and cafes are constantly opening. And they even have their own water park in the Gorki Gorod Mall shopping center.

Ski lifts and slopes Gorki Gorod

In the 18/19 season, 13 lifts were operating. The main lift consists of 3 stages of the main cable car, 8-seater gondolas that lift to a height of 2200 m.

Three more chairlifts operate in Circus-2 and 3. “Circus-2” and “Circus-3” are ski areas that are located at an altitude of about 2000 m below the Black Pyramid, so this arrangement of the tracks allows you to fully ski up to beginning of May. For reference: a “circus” is a semicircular bowl between the tops, and not just a gathering of clowns.

Circus-2, by the way, is an excellent place to learn freeride due to its slight slopes. But on powder days they roll out the snow quickly.

Directly below Circus 2 there is a ramp to the Eastern Sector ski area. In the upper part there are quite difficult and steep red trails and a very pleasant forest, and below there are green and blue trails that are convenient for training.

In the 2015-2016 season, a test opening of another ski area, Circus-3, took place. It is approximately the same as Circus-2, but for now only half and one lift are working.

In Gorki Gorod, of course, there are tracks for all categories of riders. But most of all it is suitable for either beginners or already experienced skaters. But that same golden mean, which is suitable for most lovers, is not presented as well as in neighboring Rosa Khutor and Laura.

Finally, an artificial snowmaking system has appeared and this has significantly improved the quality of skiing and extended the season.

Evening skiing

The slides also delighted guests with evening skiing. There are tracks of the second stage and chairlifts from 960 m. If you have already skied on Gazprom in the evening, then the differences will be as follows: the tracks are more difficult, that is, you can have a good ride if you arrived in the evening. There are no queues because the gondola lift is working. The atmosphere is less romantic than at Gazprom, but more party-like.

Freeride in Gorki Gorod

Gorki City — favorite place experienced freeriders. With good snowfalls, you can ride very cool off-piste, although Gorki has the most dangerous freeride compared to other complexes, because there are many difficult couloirs and rocks. And, unlike Rosa Khutor, there is no such easy access directly from the cable car. Newcomers often go to the wrong place and then spend many hours getting back. But what freerider can resist untouched virgin soil?

With the launch of new lifts, access to freeride routes has become easier, which has opened up new horizons for off-piste skiers. However, do not forget that freeride in Gorki Gorod is officially prohibited, to the point that rescuers may refuse to help injured riders, which has already happened.

Gorki's freeride policy is quite strange and contradictory. On the one hand, on the façade of the resort there is a proud inscription “Freeride”, on the other hand, the resort has been actively fighting off-piste skiing in recent seasons, for which it has introduced strange redneck patrol officers, many of whom are bad skiers, create dangerous situations and spoil the image of the resort. For this reason, we ourselves practically never visit the once beloved resort. We are waiting for positive changes, but we are waiting for them for now, riding on Rosa and Gazprom.

Snowboard camp and park

Circus 2 in Gorki is an almost ideal place for this kind of event, but Gorki City lost its main event - Quiksilver New Star Camp, which moved to Rosa Khutor a few years ago and all the action is now there. Gorki Gorod is trying to organize alternative events, but so far it has not been particularly successful. But let's hope things get better.

Food and relaxation

Down in Gorki Gorod, new cafes and restaurants are constantly opening. What’s important is that next to the ski lift there is a supermarket “Perekrestok” in the shopping center “Gorki Mall” and next to “Agrocomplex”. And in terms of food, Gorki Gorod is the most democratic and diverse resort in Krasnaya Polyana. There are many options, all different and with different prices.

For example, from the panoramic restaurant at 2200 m one of the best views of Krasnaya Polyana and Sochi opens. And in good weather and with good optics you can even see the sea.

At the top of the second stage there is a cafe-restaurant “Sugrob”, where you can have a good sit and a view.

But nearby, on the observation deck, and on the line below, there are stalls with sausages, sandwiches and tea, where the prices are quite reasonable. And the view from everyone viewing points of the resort gorgeous.

Downstairs on level 540 there is a decent dining room called "Oven" and "Coals".

Summary

Well, seriously, Gorki Gorod is currently optimal for three categories of guests: beginners who will enjoy Circus 2 and the training track on a chair; strong piste skiers who will cover the entire resort in a couple of days; and experienced freeriders who don’t really need trails.

For the bulk of below-average skiers, the trails of the third stage and the eastern sector are difficult or narrow. However, there is one very big plus - when there are queues at Roza and Gazprom, there is usually no crowding in Gorki and you can ride quite comfortably.

I want to wish you have a nice rest! And don’t forget that everything important and helpful information collected on our page

It began in 2001, when development and arrangement began in Esto-Sadok ski resort"Mountain Carousel". With Sochi receiving the right to host the 2014 Winter Games, construction of the Olympic media village began on the territory of the “Mountain Carousel”. It was this that became the basis of the future large-scale resort, which has now mastered 4 heights - 540 m, 960 m, 1500 m and 2200 m above sea level.

One of the authors of the ski resorts of the famous Courchevel, the French architect Pierre Diener, took part in the development of the Gorki Gorod project.

In addition to the media village, the resort was represented at the 2014 Games by the unique Russian Hills springboard complex, which has now become a national training center and venue for international competitions.

Today “Gorki Gorod” is ready to receive up to 50 thousand guests; hotels of famous international chains and cozy apartments are distributed throughout the “Upper” and “Lower” cities. The “Lower City” was built in Esto-Sadok, along the embankment of the Mzymta River. It is convenient to walk here, there is its own multi-level shopping and entertainment center, many cafes and restaurants, clubs, all the infrastructure necessary for skiing and a cable car station. “Upper City” is the territory of premium category hotels and spa centers at an altitude of 960 m. The bonus to staying here is excellent panoramic views to the surrounding mountains and valleys of Krasnaya Polyana.

If you need to relax and find inner balance, choose one of the resort's four spa complexes. Here you can recharge your morning energy in fitness centers and gyms. By the way, spa services may be free for resort hotel guests. Be sure to clarify this point when booking or checking in; losing such opportunities through ignorance will be unforgivable.

From the category of unusual. Every evening throughout the high season until March 31 at 18:30 and 19:30 in the “Upper City” they promise to organize a projection video show with a fabulous and vibrant story about the mountains. The canvases for the 3D-mapping show will be the facades of hotels in the Gorki Gorod resort. The show is free for everyone, the duration of the program is 10 minutes.

Summer in Gorki Gorod

"Gorki" rightfully classifies itself as an all-season resort - it is not at all necessary to rush here specifically for the virgin snow of the winter slopes. And since spring and autumn in Krasnaya Polyana are very fleeting concepts, almost all non-winter activities can be classified as summer entertainment. And there’s plenty to keep yourself occupied, even without taking into account the cable car excursions that are standard for all resort guests.

For example, you can visit the unique Olympic site “Russian Hills”. Competitions and training of athletes on the Gorok springboards take place even in the summer; this is worth seeing and capturing.

When the mountain slopes change their color from white to green, ecological hiking trails of different difficulty levels open in Gorki Gorod. Walking along eco-routes is free, but for some you will have to fork out for a cable car ride. You can also order individual tour or join a group. An hour of useful walking accompanied by an instructor will cost 600 RUB for a one-on-one forced march.

During the warm season, adults and children over 7 years old can test their agility on the routes of the local rope amusement park. Children's and family obstacle courses are located at a height of up to 3 m, adult areas reach 10 m in height. Entertainment for the whole day without restrictions on routes costs 800 RUB for all guests of the park.

Bike

A whole separate entertainment industry with its own infrastructure and features. For regular walks around the “Upper” and “Lower” parts of the resort, as well as other areas of Esto-Sadk, we recommend renting a regular cruise bike. The adult version will cost 800 RUB per day, the “tandem” version costs 1400 RUB, and the children’s version costs 600 RUB.

Connoisseurs of two-wheeled off-road vehicles will find a vehicle to suit their needs at the Gornaya Karusel rental complex. Entry-level adult mountain bikes will cost 1,150 RUB per day of rental, more expensive professional bikes - up to 2,400 RUB, junior bikes - 600-800 RUB. Don’t forget protection, goggles and a helmet; a full set will cost about 1200 RUB. Now you can go to conquer the “Gorki Bike Park”, located at an altitude of almost 1000 m above sea level. Here, riders have access to more than 7 km of trails of varying difficulty - from gentle green trails to high-speed descents, with elevation changes of up to 340 m, sharp turns and convenient rest points.

Weather in Gorki Gorod

When going skiing in Gorki Gorod, take care of lightweight and breathable equipment - winters here are snowy, but warm and humid. The ski season opens in the second half of December and lasts almost until May. There is no need to be afraid of frosts - the powerful ridges of the Caucasus Mountains do not let in cold from outside, and also do not let out sea warmth, creating a unique mountain-sea microclimate in Krasnaya Polyana and its environs. In May it quickly becomes warm, everything blooms and turns green before our eyes. Already in June you can go down from the mountains, tired of long walks along the hiking trails, and swim in the Black Sea. In summer, the resort is nice and pleasant, sometimes it gets hot, but not critical. You can wear light clothing almost until November. Come breathe fresh mountain air can and should be done at any time of the year.
