How to get from Hong Kong airport to Guangzhou. How long does it take to get to Macau from Guangzhou and what is the best way to get there? From Shenzhen to Guangzhou by train

Since we came to China and settled in Guangzhou, due to visa conditions, we have to leave the country and return back every 3 months.

In this article I will tell you how to get to Guangzhou from one of the most densely populated cities on the planet, Hong Kong.

The ticket office looks like this:

This route is served by several companies, which, in appearance, are no different from each other.

Go Go Bus: departure at 07:35 / 08:05 / 08:35 / 10:45 / 12:45 / 13:45 / 14:45 / 15:45 / 16:45 / 17:45 / 18:45 / 19:25 / 20:45 / 22:45
Passenger drop-off points: China Hotel, Guangzhou Hotel, Rosedale Hotel Guangzhou, Garden Hotel

Note! When traveling by buses of this company, you will have to cross the border yourself. That is, the bus stops at the border, all passengers, along with their belongings, get off and go through passport control (exit from Hong Kong). After clearing customs and passport control, you board the bus again. Next, the bus travels for 2-3 minutes and again unloads everyone to cross the border with mainland China, and then again everyone loads onto the bus and moves on.

Another option is to travel with a company that provides minivans (check at the checkout). In this case, you do not need to cross the border and carry suitcases back and forth. You sit quietly in the minibus, periodically showing your face to the customs officer for comparison with the photo in your passport. There, in the minivan, you will be given forms that you need to fill out to go through passport control.

Although, you will still have to get on the bus, but after the minibus crosses the border. This option is no different in price, but is somewhat more convenient.

Important! Do not move too far and do not lose your ticket, since there may be a dozen buses providing transportation and it is very easy to lose yours. Therefore, when boarding, it is better to show the driver your ticket once again and make sure that this bus is going in the direction you need.

One more point: It’s better to look in advance on the map next to which bus stop is in your area of residence. We were completely unaware that the bus we were traveling on stopped in the area we needed, and we noticed it completely by accident. But they could get to the station and from there, tired and exhausted, take the metro/taxi home.

By train

There is no direct train connection between Hong Kong Airport and Guangzhou yet, so first you need to get to the city center. You can do this either by taking the A21 bus or the Airport Express, which will take you into central Hong Kong in 20 minutes from Kowloon Station (not Kowloon West or Kowloon Tong).

Time: 2 hours - train from Hong Kong to Guangzhou; 20 minutes to cross the Hong Kong-China and China-Hong Kong borders; Total total time ~ 3 hours.
Price: 190 HKD (150 RMB) - train. Total: 1272 rub. per person.

This method is perhaps the most comfortable and expensive. You don't have to make multiple transfers from train to metro, but you leave Kowloon and arrive at East Railway Station, the orange metro line (Line 3) - link to the Guangzhou metro map, from where you can get to any part of the city.

On a ferryboat

I will not consider this option. Firstly, because we have not tried it, and secondly, because it is less convenient due to its schedule. There is only one ferry, which leaves at 16:00 and arrives at 17:00. The ticket costs significantly more than previous options ~ 300 yuan.

Via Shenzhen

The border crossing between Hong Kong and China (Shenzhen) is located at Lok Ma Chau station (blue metro line, terminus).

To get to Lok Ma Chau, you need to take the MRT. See the map for more details:

The cost of a trip from Hung Hom Station to Lok Ma Chau will cost HK$37.

Once you cross the border into Shenzhen, you can travel to Guangzhou by high-speed train or bus. Let me tell you in more detail about both of these options.

From Shenzhen to Guangzhou by train

Time: The train from Shenzhen to Guangzhou takes approximately 1 hour. 30 minutes.
Price: 79 RMB (economy) or 99 RMB (business) - ~660 rub./per person for economy and 825 rub. for business class.

In 1.5 hours you will find yourself in Guangzhou, at the East Railway Station, orange metro line (Line 3) - link to the Guangzhou metro map above.

Important! Taxi drivers in this area often take advantage of the ignorance of visitors and “jack up” the price. Keep in mind that a taxi for a distance of 7-10 kilometers will not cost 100 yuan, but will most likely cost you 20-30. In this case, it is better to use official taxi stands and always make sure that the taxi driver turns on the meter (!).

From Shenzhen to Guangzhou by bus

Time: 3 hours.
Price: RMB 70 per person.

This method is even cheaper than the previous one and is suitable if you suddenly miss the last train. This happened to us once.

We arrived in Shenzhen, crossed the border, but the last train left at 22:00, or even earlier. As a result, the city is unfamiliar, the ticket offices are closed, what should I do?

We started searching and it turned out that we could get to Guangzhou by bus. To be honest, the experience is not very pleasant, since the ride takes twice as long. High-speed train from Shenzhen it goes at a speed of 150 km/h, while the bus is 80-90. Therefore, the time you will spend on the same route is not 1.5 hours, but 3.

That's probably all. We hope that our tips will help you get to your destination as comfortably and at the lowest cost as possible. We have already experienced how important it is, sometimes, to get at least a little comfort after tiring flights and transfers.

Good luck!

If you have questions, write them in the comments, we will definitely answer.

The only inconvenience of this method is that you have to cross the border yourself. Then get back on your bus, drive for a minute, and get off again (with all your belongings) to go through passport and customs control to enter. Guangzhou China has a free monthly English-language magazine that writes about the latest events and entertainment in the city. A very useful thing for independent tourists. The magazine can be picked up for free at many tourist destinations in Guangzhou China, such as Starbucks. This is a really valuable and free resource to get to know the city and places to go in Guangzhou China. If you don't find the magazine, read , where I write about traveling around Asia and beyond.

However, the city has very distinct periods when there are no exhibitions (hotel prices are minimal) and when international exhibitions are held (prices increase). But it is always possible to choose the best option.

Food Guangzhou, China

Guangzhou China is the birthplace of Cantonese cuisine, a style that has spread widely throughout the world. Most Western cuisines have adopted Chinese recipes, familiar to them as “Chinese food.” However, keep in mind that many foods that Westerners find distasteful (eg dog, snake, etc.) are eaten in China.

IN Chinayou can find a variety of cuisines and for foodies it is a paradise. Restaurants, cafes, bars in Guangzhou are literally at every turn with delicious, exotic, satisfying food.Food in Guangzhouwill be of interest to literally every tourist, because you will not try such exoticism in combination with familiar things anywhere else. In 2019, the RMB exchange rate is certainly not the lowest, but it is still worth trying the food in Guangzhou 2019.

Food Guangzhou unpredictable. If you are not afraid, then you can try something unusual. Menus in Guangzhou are sometimes translated very funny when you see “fried Vasily”, “eggplant with cardboard” or “beef on a board”. Below is a photo of the menu in the restaurant, admire it. 🙂

Guangzhou is located in Southern China on the northern bank of the Pearl River and is one of the largest cities countries. This location has led to the city becoming one of the largest international hubs.

You can get to Guangzhou by plane, train or bus. For myself, I chose a plane.

By plane

Guangzhou Airport (Baiyun International Airport) was opened in August 2004. and is one of the three largest airports in China along with Beijing and Shanghai. The airport is located 28 kilometers from the city center. Today, from Guangzhou Airport you can fly to 21 international destinations (including direct flights to Moscow) and 70 domestic destinations (Beijing, etc.)

Guangzhou Airport is very large and it's easy to get lost, but don't worry there are signs everywhere! Its area is 370 square meters and it has four floors: on the third floor there is a departure area, on the first floor there is an arrival hall and on the minus first floor you can take the metro, and there is also a car park there.

At the airport you can find:

  • business center where you can make international calls, photos, copies or send faxes;
  • mail;
  • banks;
  • currency exchange. Please note that currency exchange can only be done between 08:00 and 21:00;
  • medical room;
  • storage room (opening hours from 06:00 to 22:00).

How to get from the airport to the city

You can use the services:

  • metro. The fare varies from 70 cents to 1.5 dollars (5-10 yuan). Tokens can be purchased at terminals located at the entrance to the metro. You can read more about the metro in;
  • Taxi. Taxis are metered and cost about $20 (100 yuan). Taxi drivers generally don't speak English, so it's best to have your hotel's address in Chinese;
  • shuttle bus The bus parking area is located near the main exit as you exit the Arrival hall. The ticket can be bought from the driver, the cost is between 3 - 5 dollars (20 - 32 yuan).

For myself, I chose the metro, as it is the fastest and most convenient way to get to the city, in addition, the final metro station is located right at the airport on the ground floor, which is very convenient! In the arrivals hall you will see a Metro sign, then follow the signs. They will lead you straight to the metro entrance. At which you will see a machine that sells tokens for travel. Be careful, the machine only accepts coins and 5 and 10 yuan bills. It will take about thirty minutes to get to the city center.

  • A taxi is not the best option, since most taxi drivers do not speak English or other languages and drive according to the meter, making many circles, knowing that you are a foreigner and most likely your first time here;
  • The shuttle bus takes tourists to hotels such as The Garden Hotel, Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, HNA Hotel Central, Huashi(GDH) Hotel, Yunlai Hotel, United Star Hotel and 7 Days Inn. In this case, the trip will take about 1 hour, taking into account traffic jams, maybe more. Therefore, I would choose the metro, it’s much faster.

You can fly from Moscow to Guangzhou on a direct Aeroflot flight (this is the only direct flight from Russia). Travel time - 10 hours. You can fly from other cities in Russia only with transfers in other cities and countries (Harbin, and others).

You can also get to Beijing by train "Moscow-Beijing". There are two such trains:

  • 020H "Vostok", travel time - 6 days. This train passes through Zabaikalsk and Harbin and runs on Saturdays;
  • 0043, travel time - 5 days. The train passes through Ulaanbaatar () and runs on Tuesdays.

The ticket price is about 30,000 rubles. one way.

You can also travel to Guangzhou from Beijing. There are two ways:

  • train
  • airplane

By train

It is better to buy your train ticket online in advance.

The high-speed railway (300 km/h) from Beijing to Guangzhou opened in December 2012. From now on, you can reach Guangzhou in 9 hours. There are both day and night trains (the night train departs at 20:20 – 20:25 and arrives in Guangzhou at 06:30). In addition, there are special carriages only for women. In Beijing, trains to Guangzhou leave from Beijing West Railway Station and arrive at Guangzhou South Railway Station.

The ticket price depends on the class of carriage:

  • Second class – 133 dollars (862 yuan) – second class seats. As a rule, this type of carriage has 5 seats in a row - two on one side and three on the other. The seats resemble the economy class cabin of an airplane. Each chair has an outlet where you can charge your phone or laptop.
  • First class – 213 dollars (1380 yuan) – first class seats. The first class carriage has 4 seats in a row, the seats are more comfortable than in the second class carriage, and there is also much more free legroom.
  • Business class – 421 dollars (2724 yuan) – business class. The seats in this carriage are the best and most expensive, and they do not yet exist on all trains. You can find out about their availability when booking your ticket. The seats are reminiscent of business class seats on an airplane. Typically, there are three seats in one row, one on one side and two on the other. The chairs recline, and each chair has an individual mini-TV.

In addition, this train has free Wi-Fi.

By plane

By plane, the journey from Beijing to Guangzhou takes 3 hours.

Before buying a ticket, compare prices for train and plane. Sometimes there are sales, but generally tickets are more expensive than train tickets.

The average cost of a plane ticket to Guangzhou is 23,000 rubles.

From Hong Kong

Guangzhou can also be reached from Hong Kong. is an autonomy under the protectorate of China (previously it was a British colony) and Russian citizens do not require a visa there, unlike mainland China. You can fly there by direct flight from Moscow, Vladivostok, Khabarovsk and Irkutsk.

There are several ways to get from Hong Kong to Guangzhou:

  • bus

By train

The easiest and fastest way to get to Guangzhou is by train. The trip takes 2 hours. This train leaves from the station Hung Hom station(Khan Hom Station is a metro station and at the same time a train station), which is located in the Kowloon area. Be careful you need to get to Kowloon Station, not Kowloon West or Kowloon Tong. Next, take the free shuttle to our Hung Hom station. The fare costs 12 US dollars (90 Hong Kong dollars). You can also get to Hung Hom by metro. In this case, also first take the Airport express and go to Tsing Yi Station, take the Tung Chung Line metro there, get off at Nam Cheong Station, then change to the West Rail Line and there you are. Hung Hom location! The cost in this case will be about 9 US dollars (70 Hong Kong dollars). Also at the station, go through customs and passport control, as you are traveling to mainland China.

A ticket from Hong Kong (Kowloon) to Guangzhou costs US$27 (HK$210).

The train arrives in Guangzhou at Guangzhou East Station(Guangzhou East Station) - eastern station.

By bus

You can also get to Guangzhou by bus, which runs directly from Hong Kong airport. The trip will take about 3 – 4 hours. Buses operate through the Lok Ma Chau/Huanggang or Shenzhen Bay Port border crossing points. Tickets can be purchased at Terminal 1 - Arrivals or Terminal 2. Tickets cost US$15 (HK$110). Buses board at Coach Station Terminal 2 (3rd floor).
