Where is Vietnam located on the world map?

Vietnam is located in Southeast Asia and occupies the eastern coast of the Indochina Peninsula. The state, whose development was greatly undermined by wars and revolutions, is still considered one of the poorest in the world. However, Vietnam is becoming more and more popular in the tourism market, which is not surprising. The country is rich in picturesque beaches, ancient temple complexes, and the natural beauty of national parks. Many are delighted with the exotic and delicious cuisine of Vietnam, while others value the cheapest diving most of all. The state is doing everything to make tourists coming to the resorts feel as comfortable as possible.

Interactive map of Vietnam with cities and resorts

There are 59 provinces in Vietnam, each of them has its own characteristics, but territorially the country is usually divided into three regions: Northern Vietnam, Southern and Central. Northern Vietnam is the most ancient part, known for its preserved architectural and cultural monuments (Hanoi). Central Vietnam is famous for its magnificent beach resorts - it has a pleasant, calm climate, sandy coastline and beautiful views. Southern Vietnam is the most economically developed region. This is where the best hotels, roads and other tourist infrastructure are concentrated (Nha Trang, Phan Thiet).

The islands of Vietnam have always attracted tourists with their quiet picturesque beaches and tropical bushes. After the noisy mainland resorts, the cozy islands will seem like a bastion of calm and romance. All that remains is to choose which island will become the place for your vacation or boat trip. Phu Quoc Island stands apart, considered one of the most luxurious beach destinations in Vietnam. Another interesting place is the Con Dao archipelago, consisting of 14 magnificent islands: Vinpearl is the largest among them; Monkey Island is a place where primates really live in large numbers; Hon Mieu Island - its main attraction is the aquarium; Orchid Island is renowned for its natural beauty; Thi Island is included in the ranking of the 30 most beautiful bays in the world.

Geographical location of Vietnam

Vietnam is located in Southeast Asia and stretches for 1,600 kilometers along the eastern part of the Indochina Peninsula. Geographical coordinates of the country: 16.16667 N. and 107.83333 E.

Vietnam territory

The territory of the state is 331,210 square kilometers, which is the 66th largest in the world. More than 4/5 of the area is occupied by low or medium-height mountains. Less than a third of the territory is covered by forests. In the north of Vietnam stretch the blocky-folded ridges of Hoang Lien Son, Sham Shao, Shusung Chaothai, which are separated by deep and narrow valleys. The Annam Mountains stretch along the west of the country. In the center and south of Vietnam there are basement and basalt plateaus - Dak Lak, Pleiku, Lam Vien, Zilin, which make up the central Taing Guen plateau. The largest and deepest rivers in Southeast Asia, the Mekong and Hong Ha, flow into the South China Sea, ending their course in Vietnam.

Resorts in Vietnam can be divided according to their location into sea and mountain. If we use the European classification, then almost all of them can be classified as spa resorts. After all, SPA (Sanus per Aquam) translated from Latin means “health through water.” Today, SPA refers to a health-improving set of procedures using any water: sea, fresh, mineral, as well as therapeutic mud.
According to the same classification, almost all Vietnamese resorts - both sea and mountain - belong to Health Resorts, that is, resorts for health. The climatic and other natural conditions in them themselves improve the health of those who come on vacation.

Vung Tau is the closest seaside resort to Ho Chi Minh City. Not far from it there is the Binh Chau resort with hot mineral springs.

Thermal baths in Vietnam are mainly located in the mountains, but not only.
The fourth type is rehabilitation centers (Reha Klinik). These also exist in Vietnam, but foreign tourists rarely visit them. After all, these are specialized resorts specializing in rehabilitation for a certain pathology. And it is much more difficult to choose the right one in another country than in your own.
On the given map of Vietnam (below on this page), resort places are highlighted in purple circles and labeled with names in purple. To go to the description of the resort, you need to click on this circle.

Beach resorts

The main seaside resorts in Vietnam in descending order of popularity: Nha Trang, Mui Ne, Phu Quoc Island, Tuan Chau Island and the entire Cat Ba Island, Phan Rang, Con Dao Island, Kyalo, Do Son, Sham Son. They welcome guests all year round, but year-round beach holidays are more accessible only in the south of the country. In the rest - from 6 to 9 months.
Seaside resorts in Vietnam have much higher priority over mountain resorts, unlike, for example, Russia. It is in them, first of all, that new hotels are built and the entertainment industry is created. Their advantage in the eyes of foreign tourists is also manifested in the fact that nearby there are various attractions of a historical and natural nature.

If we talk about the healing factor of seaside resorts, then there is fresh salty air, sun and water. Swimming in the sea itself gives a boost of energy. But you should also keep in mind the salinity of sea water. Sea salt water is useful because it contains many minerals and trace elements that strengthen joints, muscles, blood vessels, and skin. Off the coast of Vietnam, the salinity of sea water is higher than in Thailand.
Salt water is contraindicated if there are wounds on the skin. In addition, it gives your hair an unsightly look. After swimming in the sea, it is better to take a shower with fresh water to remove any remaining salt from your hair and give it fullness.

Nha Trang is unofficially considered the “capital” of Vietnamese resorts. This is a spa resort, a thermal resort, and a health resort. In addition to opportunities for health improvement, you can find a lot of entertainment here. There are quite a lot of services open to Russian citizens: diving, restaurants, excursions.
Phan Thiet and Mui Ne specialize in beach holidays and sea water sports. They belong to health resorts and spas. The climate here is slightly warmer than in Nha Trang. A large Russian-speaking diaspora constantly lives in Mui Ne and there are also many signs in Russian.

There are resorts on the islands. Phu Quoc has become popular among Russian tourists, and Con Dao is gaining popularity. Both of these destinations are currently known only for good beach holidays. In 2016, a large safari park was opened in Fukuoka. In Con Dao, we can mention eco-tourism (fishing, nature reserve, rare animals).
The small resort island of Tuan Chau and Cat Ba Island are located in Ha Long Bay in the north of the country. In addition to excursions around the bay, these resorts offer some other entertainment and some wellness treatments.

The resorts of Doshon, Shamshon and Kyalo are also located in the northern part of the country, but on the mainland coast. Doshon was “occupied” by Chinese tourists. Shamson and Kyalo are generally rarely visited by foreign tourists due to seasonality and the relatively small number of attractions in the immediate vicinity. However, at a distance of half an hour to an hour's drive there are also interesting sightseeing objects. For example, UNESCO included an ancient fortress in the city of Thanh Hoa near Sham Son in the list of world heritage. And an hour’s drive from Kyalo there is a good mountain resort with hot mineral waters.

Other cities, which also have many opportunities for recreation by the water, can rather be considered as tourist centers. These are Danang, Hue, Hoi An, Ha Long Bay. In them, for tourists, historical and natural attractions come first, and spas come second. But this is very conditional. For example, in Hoi An, spa and beach holidays are far from in last place. Hue also has beaches a short distance away, as well as hot mineral springs.

At the same time, new seaside resorts are appearing. This is, for example, Shongkau, which is still in the initial stage of development, but has good climatic characteristics.

Mountain resorts

Mountain resorts are located in mountainous areas where there are mineral springs of water that have a beneficial effect on health. There are quite a few sources of healing mineral water in Vietnam, but there are few resorts. In terms of service level, mountain resorts are somewhat inferior to sea resorts. Their advantage is a smaller flow of tourists, hence a calmer environment. To visit them, you need to find out the composition of the mineral water and what diseases the baths treat.

Ba Vi Resort is located in the outlying suburbs of Hanoi. The following procedures are available here: hot water bathing, mud baths. Nearby is the Ba Vi National Park, so you can wander around the outskirts of the jungle.

Binh Chau resort belongs to the city of Vung Tau and is located relatively close to the largest city in Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City. It is famous for its hot mineral springs and good amenities. It is very likely that Binh Chau will continue to develop as additional funds are planned to be invested in it.

In Hoa Binh province there is a well-known resort in Vietnam called Quim Boi with medicinal hot springs. The resort has a large swimming pool, showers, cafes, massages. Nearby is the Cuc Phuong Nature Reserve, where you can take excursions. Quimboy is located relatively close to the capital, Hanoi.

There are many other hot springs in mountainous areas, which are arranged differently, most of them worse than the first three. Therefore, they cannot yet be called resorts, mainly due to the lack of comfortable accommodation conditions. Work on their development is underway. Unlike seaside resorts, where foreign companies invest money, in mountainous areas local authorities have to invest.

Vietnam map

Vietnam is a country in Southeast Asia. In the north it borders with China, in the west - with China. From the south and east it is washed by the South China Sea. Vietnam on the world map runs in an S-shaped snake along the eastern edge of the Indochina Peninsula. The Vietnamese themselves find similarities between this shape and a rocker with two baskets - a traditional device used by peasants when harvesting rice. And this comparison is fair, because the deltas of the Hong Ha (in the north) and Mekong (in the south) rivers are the main rice granaries of the country. The state also owns the territories of several islands: Con Dao, Fu Quy, Khoai, Re, Cham and others. The capital of Vietnam is Hanoi.

Most of the mainland of Vietnam is occupied by mountains. In the north there are chains of gigantic hills: Hoang Lien Son, Shusung Chaotai, Sham Shao. From the west, Vietnamese lands were surrounded by the Annam Mountains (Chuong Son). And in the central region there are plateaus: Pleiku, Dak Lak, Lam Vien, Zilin, Central Plateau.

A map of Vietnam shows how Southeast Asia's largest waterways - the Hang Ha and Mekong rivers - cross the country and empty into the South China Sea. Many small rivers flowing from the central plateau and the Annam Mountains also flow towards the sea, forming a strip of coastal plains.

The map of Vietnam paints an attractive picture for beach lovers - the eastern part of the country faces the sea. The coast with picturesque beaches stretches for 1600 kilometers along the sea.

A map of Vietnam with attractions is located in the map tab, in the places section. This service will help you navigate the area while traveling. A detailed map of Vietnam will help you when planning your trip route around the exotic Asian country.

Each of the major cities of Vietnam presents the country to the eyes of world tourists only from its most attractive side. For example:

What to bring from Vietnam

This state has absolutely everything for tourist shopping.

The most popular purchases are:

Visa and customs

For citizens of Russia (and for citizens of Belarus), the law provides two options for legally crossing the border of the Vietnamese state:

  1. When you book last-minute tours to Vietnam for up to 15 days, you will not need any visas to enter the country. It is enough to present your return ticket and personal passport to the customs border guard. The passport must be stamped indicating the date of departure of the given tourist from the country.
  2. If trips to Vietnam require a longer stay, then you need to issue an invitation letter, on the basis of which you will receive a visa document, where you indicate the arrival airport and departure date (according to return tickets), and personal passport details. A sample of filling out this document is always provided upon request. Visa documents and a Vietnam migration card can be ordered and received at home, or you can use the services at Vietnamese airports and issue them immediately upon arrival.

There are some tricks that will help, if necessary, increase the length of stay in the country.

Climate and weather by month

The climate map covers two zones:

  1. Subtropical in the north and center of the country;
  2. Tropical (south).

Naturally, subtropical regions are characterized by rainy summers and moderately cold and damp winters. And in the tropics, comfortable temperatures and humidity prevail.

  • The rainy season (when traveling to the country is not entirely profitable) lasts from mid-May to November. Typhoons, hurricanes, and downpours hit the center of the country with all their might, but rarely occur at the extreme points (north and south).
  • If you do not take into account rainy weather and strong winds, then in terms of temperature indicators the situation is conducive to relaxation: +28-31C during the day, 24-26C at night, water +28C.
  • The beginning of winter marks the beginning of the Vietnamese tourist season. It rains less often, the temperature is consistently high, and the water is warm. The peak of tourism is February. The situation continues throughout March and April, and only by mid-May the rainy season begins again.
