How to get from Hammamet to Carthage and Sidi Bou Said? Traveling from Hammamet Hammamet - holidays with children.

Tunisia is a popular tourist destination! There are a lot of Russian tourists in Tunisia, a little less than in Turkey or Thailand. And what is important, Tunisia is a "cheap" country, even with our current ruble exchange rate, everything here is quite inexpensive.
A visa is not required to travel to Tunisia. I flew to Tunisia from Krasnoyarsk, the journey took about eight and a half hours. The time difference with Moscow is two hours.
Sea in Tunisia Mediterranean. In late May - early June, it is quite cool, about 20 degrees, but in combination with the heat, this water temperature is very pleasant. The sand on Tunisian beaches is yellow and fine, like in children's sandboxes). The sun is not as harsh as, for example, in Bali, but if you do not take action, of course, you will burn out. This year in May - June the air temperature was +28 +30 degrees. In the evenings, a cool wind blew, so you should definitely take sweaters and a windbreaker with you on vacation.

I rested in the resort town of Hammamet during the month of Ramadan. It was quite calm, since there were no Algerians in the hotels, they say that there are a lot of them and they are very noisy).
Tunisians themselves are normal people)). Of course, traders pester passers-by, as in other countries of the Maghreb, but you just need to be prepared for this.

HOTELS.

Hotels in Tunisia correspond to their star rating. I rested at the President 3 * hotel. This is a large five-story hotel, the decor is simple, but everything is in order in the rooms, and everything works, and this is the most important thing). The hot water is really hot and the water pressure is very strong. Wifi caught even in the room. For some reason, he did not work only in a restaurant. The food at the hotel is very tasty! Meat, fish, chicken... Fruits were often oranges, watermelons, peaches, apricots, etc. For breakfast, delicious hot croissants and puff pastry buns! And what delicious cottage cheese is in Tunisia, I have never tried such cottage cheese! In short, the food at the hotel is a solid five!

Of the minuses - theft of staff. Since Tunisia is a poor country, hotel staff often steal from guests. Therefore, do not leave your phone and jewelry in the room in a conspicuous place. It is best to rent a safe. The cost of renting a safe per day is 2 dinars, which is about 50 rubles. Rent a safe and live in peace.
All hotel rooms have carpet on the floor, which for some reason they forget to vacuum - another minus)
At the reception you can get a beach towel, the rental price is 20 dinars, you can take a towel from the room to the beach.

BEACH.

There is a road along the entire beach in Hammamet, so in order to get to the beach you need to cross the road every day. Each hotel has its own beach, so umbrellas and sunbeds are free. The sand, as I said, is yellow, soft and shallow, the entry into the water is gentle. The sea is mostly calm, on a rare day there were waves.

The beaches of Hammamet Bay are considered to be some of the best beaches in the country.

NUTRITION.

I rested on the all-inclusive system, so, of course, I had enough food at the hotel, sometimes I even skipped lunch or dinner, they fed me so heartily. As I said, everything is very tasty! I liked everything. First, second, for dessert cakes, sodas, juices, wine. Again, very tasty cottage cheese, yogurt and croissants! So, if you urgently need to gain extra 2-3 kg, choose Tunisia! :-)

TRANSPORT.

In Hammamet, it is most convenient to travel by taxi, they are all yellow. There are minibuses in Hammamet, but the fact is that they are not numbered; instead of a number, there are signs on them, where the bus route is written in Arabic script. Tourists can't figure it out.

In a taxi, it is most advantageous to negotiate the price in advance, if you know the approximate prices, you will be able to negotiate cheaper than it comes out on the meter. The counter must be monitored, as drivers are trying to deceive the tourist. I read about the methods of deception on the Internet, but in fact I came across honest taxi drivers, or maybe I was just prepared)).
The first way to cheat - the driver does not reset the counter after the previous passenger. The second way - switches the meter to night payment (at night the tariff is twice as expensive). In this case, the letter "n" (nuit (nui) - night) can be disassembled on the scoreboard. The day is indicated by the letter "j" - (jour (zhur) - day). Also, the tariff can be indicated by a number: day -1, night - 2.
I must say that taxi prices in Tunisia are quite affordable.
The map shows my hotel and the main attractions, shops of Hammamet. I will write here how much it costs to take a taxi to these places, and you, guided by the distance on the map, will know approximately how much the road from your hotel should cost.
From the "President" (On the map No. 1) to the Old Medina (On the map No. 4) one way - 6 dinars (150 rubles), but sometimes it turned out to go for 5 dinars (days).
From the "President" (On the map number 1) to the New Medina (Located above the Old Medina, not included on the map) - 12 days (according to the counter, 13 days come out)
From the "President" (On the map No. 1) to the supermarket "Carrefour" (Carrefour) (On the map No. 3) - 3 days.
From the "President" (On the map No. 1) to the Phrygia Zoo (the Zoo is located outside the city) there and back, plus two hours of waiting - 50 days.

CURRENCY EXCHANGE.

The course of the Tunisian dinar in all institutions is approximately the same. That is, there is no point in running and looking for a more favorable exchange rate. In large hotels, like ours, money is exchanged at the reception. So I didn't bother and changed money at the hotel. In banks, the rate is very slightly different.
In Tunisia, operations are officially allowed only in local currency, so you won’t be able to pay somewhere in dollars or euros, only for excursions with tour operators.
Change money as needed. It is strictly forbidden to take dinars out of the country! Therefore, if you have dinars left at the airport, they will need to be exchanged for dollars. It is important that you can exchange dinars for dollars only if you have an exchange check from a bank or hotel. Be sure to keep this receipt in case it will come in handy!
For one dollar they give about 2.4 dinars. That is, at a dollar exchange rate of 60 rubles, 1 dinar is equal to 25 rubles. Thus, it is not at all difficult to convert dinars into rubles. 10 dinars = 250 rubles, 5 dinars = 125 rubles, etc.

PURCHASES.

You can get lost in prices in Tunisia, they are negotiable! Don't rush shopping. First, take a walk around the shops, ask the price. There are a lot of shops in Hammamet called FixPrice, the prices here are fixed on the goods there are price tags. Take a walk through such stores, knowing the average price of goods, you can bargain much cheaper in the market. The best prices for souvenirs, leather bags, etc. at the market in the Old Medina. And if you wander into the distant streets, the prices will be even cheaper! And the more purchases you have in your hands, the cheaper the next price for the same thing will be called to you. Therefore, we, already hung with bags, bought them again and again, as the prices became ridiculous))

Leather bags are sewn in a handicraft way from camel skin mainly. You can find very interesting, I would say things "with character". Handmade has its own charm. Small "souvenir" bags cost about 5 days, medium bags can be bought for 10 days. You have to ask the price, because the prices are very different. Do not be afraid that the bags in the bazaar are dusty, everything is easily washed, checked)).

We rested in Tunisia during the holy month of Ramadan, so the markets and shops were completely empty and the merchants were very accommodating.
Leather slippers and sandals cost approximately 10-15 days. Leather masks with a Berber face 6-15 days, depending on the size.
After walking around the shops with fixed prices for a couple of days, you will be perfectly familiar with local prices. Among the souvenirs, I really liked the mirror with shutters in the form of Tunisian doors. In the FixPrice store, such mirrors cost about 10 days, on the market it took 6 days to buy.
A lot in Tunisia and various local cosmetics. On an excursion in the capital of Tunisia in a supermarket (here the cheapest prices, as the guide told us) we bought a local toothpaste (they say it is very good) a small one costs 1.67 days, a large package 3.42 days, hair masks (1 l ) with snake venom price 7.85 days, locally produced shampoos are also considered very good.

It is better to buy edible Tunisian gifts in Carrefour supermarkets (Carrefour). This is a store for the local population and the prices here are the lowest. You can buy harissa - this is a national spicy seasoning made from pepper, garlic and salt, it tastes like adjika. Also edible souvenirs include: olive oil, canned tuna in olive oil, dates, halvah, nougat and other sweets. Halva is packed in small jars of different sizes. Look for Papillon halvah (with a red "bow"), it is considered the best in Tunisia. For the sake of interest, you can buy prickly pear cactus jam. Coffee is not grown in Tunisia, it is imported from other African countries, from Kenya, for example. Roasting is still Tunisian, so you can buy coffee, especially since it is quite inexpensive - grain coffee weighing 250 grams costs 3 days.

This is an indicative list of gifts.

By the way, in Carrefour you can buy wonderful strawberry juice! Very tasty! Real, fresh, crushed strawberries! One liter costs 4.4 days. Look at the photo of what the juice bottle looks like to know what to look for. Also in the season in May-June in Tunisia, you can eat plenty of strawberries! It is sold in fruit shops, it costs only 2.5 days per kg. This is about 60 rubles.

Be prepared that merchants on the streets and in the bazaars will pester you, just don't pay attention to it. The most common way for merchants to drag you into their shop is to read on the bracelet worn on your hand what hotel you are from and state that he supposedly works in your hotel as a cook, locksmith, photographer, etc., he remembers you, will do you huge discounts. In addition, every second person tries to start a conversation with you with the question: "Tell me, how much does it cost in Russia?" Don't be fooled, go on your way.

WHERE TO GO IN HAMMAMET.

a.) Old Medina

The main attraction of Hammamet is the Old Medina - the old part of the city, surrounded by a fortress wall. Medina will give you an idea of the ancient Arab cities of North Africa. Narrow streets, blue doors, little has changed here over the past few centuries. On the embankment outside the walls of the medina there is a sculptural composition "Mermaids with Jasmine Flowers", these mermaids are the hallmark of Hammamet.

Entrance to the Medina is free, because it is one of the quarters of the city. Inside the walls of the medina there are a lot of trading shops, it is here that you can bargain well and buy souvenirs the cheapest.
A visit to the kasbah (fortress) is paid, the ticket price is 7 days and 1 day for a camera (no need to pay for a phone). To get to the kasbah, enter the main gate of the medina (not far from the sculpture of the Mermaids) and turn right onto the stairs, at the top there will be an entrance to the kasbah. From here you can take beautiful pictures overlooking the city and the sea.
Kasbah is open from April 1 to September 15 - from 8:00 to 19:00; from September 16 to March 31 - from 8:30 to 18:00. July and August - from 8:00 to 20:00.

b.) New Medina.

The new medina is an area with many restaurants, shops, sculptures, fountains, there is also the Carthageland Amusement Park. The New Medina is located in the Yasmine Hammamet area.

This is the modern part of the city with wide streets and five-star hotels.

On the other side of the road next to the New Medina (on the corner, opposite the sculpture of an elephant standing on a cart) is the largest fixed-price shopping center in Hammamet, JOY "S. Absolutely everything is sold here: clothes, shoes, souvenirs, bags, etc. .

c.) Port.

The yacht port or marina, Yasmine Hammamet, built in the mid-90s, serves as a parking lot for almost five hundred yachts, boats, sailboats and catamarans - not only Tunisian, but also European. If you have free time, you can take a walk here. After crossing the road from New Medina to the JOY "S store, go further along the street located to the right of the shopping center towards the sea. Then, when you reach the coast, turn left. Walk along the coast and at the very end of the avenue you will see the port.

c.) Flipper Water Park (“FLIPPER”)

It was located just opposite our hotel. But in the month of Ramadan he did not work. Entrance costs 15 days for an adult and 10 days for a child. The ticket price includes access to all attractions, there are no entertainment for an additional fee. Opening hours: from 8-30 to 19-00. “FLIPPER” is an abbreviation that stands for when translated from French as: “Fantastic, Legendary, Unforgettable, Paradise, Aweful, Amazing, Awesome!”.

EXCURSIONS:

The variety of excursions in Tunisia is not so great. Moreover, the prices from the tour operator and from local travel agencies are about the same. The locals are still a little cheaper and you can get a discount if you go on several excursions at once. There are guaranteed Russian, not Russian-speaking guides. And most importantly, you can go on all excursions individually for 2-3 people, and the price will be even a little less than for a tour in a large bus.
Here is the address of the VKontakte group Tunisia. Guide and excursions which I have used and have been satisfied with! Feel free to apply!

a.) The Sahara Desert. (2 days)

The most "main" tour in Tunisia! The price is $115 if you buy a tour through the group I specified - $105.
Additional charge: camel ride (25 days) or quad bike ride (35 days)
Visiting a small zoo + botanical garden - ticket price 15 days (optional)
Prices may vary slightly depending on the season.
In two excursion days you will travel 1250 km and cross almost the whole of Tunisia! This tour is otherwise called an overview of Tunisia.

On the first day - visit to Kairouan. This is the oldest city in Tunisia, the fourth of the holy centers of Islam after Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem. Then you will visit a small town located in an oasis in the desert. Here, if you wish, you can visit a small zoo. The zoo itself is nothing special. But the little "show" arranged by the zookeeper is interesting to watch. During the show, you can see a poisonous snake very close, hold a real scorpion and a live salamander in your hands).

Next, extreme jeep riding on the rocky Sahara. And it really is extreme! The driver puts the car almost vertically, driving into the sandy hills. Or, at speed, it drives sideways along a sheer "wall". But if you don't need it, you can get into a jeep "without extreme sports")
Then according to the plan - the film set, where in 1976 George Lucas shot the first shots of the film "Star Wars", creating the world of the desert planet Tatooine, named after a nearby city in Tunisia.

The next day, after a short rest at the hotel, you will meet the sunrise on the salt lake Chott el-Jerid. Ride a camel across the sandy Sahara! Then visit the cave of the Berber troglodytes. These are real, residential caves, not scenery at all). People here still live in houses dug into the clay soil. By hosting tourist guests, they earn a living in this way.
And at the end of the tour, visit the amphitheater El Jem. This is the grandest attraction of Tunisia! It is also called the "African Colosseum". Built in the 3rd century, it became the third largest in the Roman Empire.

b.) Carthage - Sidi Bou Said - Tunisia. (1 day)

The price in my recommended group is $40 (on a large bus). The price of an individual tour is $ 38 (group of 2-3 people)
On all excursions you will be accompanied by a Russian guide, you will learn a lot of curious, interesting information!

All the houses of Sidi Bou Said are painted white, and the shutters and window bars are blue. The city is immersed in greenery, blooms all around Bougainvillea. The photos here are amazing! And from the observation deck of the town offers a stunning view of the capital and the harbor of Carthage.

The ruins of ancient Carthage are the number one attraction of Tunisia, more than a million tourists come here every year! Now on the site of the great Carthage you can see only the remains of the foundations, but nevertheless, Carthage undoubtedly deserves attention!
In conclusion, in the capital city of Tunis, you will walk along Habib Bourguiba Avenue, see the Tunisian Big Ben - a metal clock tower, St. Paul's Cathedral, a drama theater, etc. Once in the capital, you will forget that you are in Africa, everything here is European!

c.) Undna - Zagun. (half day)

The price of an individual excursion (a group of 2-3 people) is $25. If you "didn't have enough" ancient ruins, go on another excursion to the cities of Udna and Zaguan. Udna is one of the most interesting excavation sites of ancient Roman cities in Tunisia. Here are preserved: a large oval amphitheater, the Capitol building, the first floor of the Roman baths with toilets and the remains of a steam heating system and several interesting villas.
W Aguan is a town located at the foot of the Jebel Zaguan mountain. During the Roman Empire, it was called Zikva. One of the main attractions of the city is the Temple of Water - an ancient Roman fountain with twelve niches.
The tour is tireless, just half a day and you are back at the hotel, in the evening you will have time to go to the sea.

d.) Phrygia Zoo

The price of the tour in the morning is $25. In the evening, the Zulu show and dinner are added to the zoo - the price is $ 44. A small zoo is interesting in that you can take pictures with different animals, for example, with a giraffe. And not just take a picture, but feed the giraffe! You will hold the twig in your teeth, and the giraffe will carefully and gently take the twig from you). The price of a picture is 10 days (250 rubles). You can also take pictures with funny lemurs, fur seals, etc.
The Zulu show that can be seen in the evening consists of Zulu drumming, African shield dances, drumming and the like. There are also purely Tunisian numbers: a dance with pots and a women's dance.

You can also visit the zoo on your own. The fare from the President Hotel to the zoo there and back, plus two hours of waiting 50 days (approximately $ 21). The entrance ticket costs 11 days. We went together, for one person it took 36 days (15 dollars), almost two times cheaper than going with a tour. And if there are not two, but three or four people, it will come out even cheaper)
The zoo is open in summer: from 9:00 to 17:00, in winter: from 9:00 to 16:00.

Perhaps that's all I wanted to say). Everyone who is going to Tunisia, have a good rest!

The first thing that struck me in Hammamet was the cleanliness. Those who lived in know that garbage on the streets and cockroaches crawling among it are completely normal. Therefore, I was pleasantly pleased with the fact that real cleanliness reigns in the city. After all, Hammamet is one of the main resorts of the country, and they are trying for tourists here.

First, we walked around the Marina (the port where yachts and pleasure boats stand) of Yasmine Hammamet, a pretty suburb of Hammamet. I had a feeling there that I was not at all in, but in a completely different country: tall hotel buildings along the edges of a wide spacious road. Only after that we went to Hammamet itself.

The medina of Hammamet did not impress me very much. Maybe just because I'm already fed up with the medinas of Arab cities. She reminded me of the Medina of Bizerte: small, but unlike the latter, clean.

We were in this city in autumn, and there were few tourists on the streets, but this did not concern the center of Hammamet, it looks like an anthill even in the off season. Tourists from Russia love to relax in Hammamet, and in the summer, just at the peak of the tourist flow, Russian speech is heard at every step.

How to get there

From Russia, you can only get here by plane. In relative distance from Hammamet, there are several airports that receive flights from Russia. The nearest airport to the city is Enfidha, which is 40 minutes away by car or 1.5 hours by bus. If you arrive at other airports in Tunisia, Carthage or Habib Bourguiba Airport, then the travel time to Hammamet will be even longer.

You can compare airfare prices in each case.

Through Enfidha

So, as I said, the nearest airport to the city is Enfidha. If you are going to rest in Hammamet, you will most likely arrive here. I flew in and out of Enfidha once. The airport serves mainly charters (regular flights land in Carthage, more on that below). Charters in cost from 15,000 RUB. These are direct flights lasting 4 hours. They start running in May and stop by the end of September.

Enfidha is a small two-story airport. Nearby is a spacious rectangular yard with a fountain. In the evening, they turn on the backlight, so it becomes very beautiful.

The airport itself is good and fully staffed. It so happened that on the way back our flight was delayed for 6 hours, so I had time to study it. Also, I can not help but note that there are a lot of seats, and there is always where to relax.

From Enfid Airport to Hammamet

The trouble is to get from Enfid Airport to any city in Tunisia, you have to travel by tourist bus. There are no taxis there. If it does, it's very rare. So if you are not arriving as part of a tourist group, then you need to negotiate with guides who will take you by bus to the city. Alternatively, you can order a transfer from the hotel.

The map above shows the route from Enfid Airport to Hammamet.

public transport

If you are traveling on your own, you will first need to get to Enfidha by tourist buses, and then by train from Tunisia to Gabes, get to the Bir Bourekba station.

It will take 40 minutes, and the price will be 2.5 EUR. Then there take the train - Nabeul and get off at stop 221M. In time, it will turn out to be 5 minutes, and at a cost of less than 1 EUR. In Hammamet, you will have to take a taxi from the stop to the hotel you need (from 2 EUR).

By car

The most convenient way to get to Hammamet is by car. True, there are no offices of companies that rent cars at Enfid Airport, so you will first have to get to the city of Enfid, and then arrange a car and roll to the end point. You can see specific offers of rental companies and prices, and I wrote more about car rental and driving in Tunisia.

Through the capital Tunisia

To Carthage Airport, or Carthage (as it is called in Tunisia), there are many regular flights from different companies: Lufthansa, Air France, Alitalia, Turkish Airlines, but only with transfers in Munich, Frankfurt am Main, Paris, Rome or Istanbul. Airfare prices range from 400-700 EUR.

I also flew to Carthage airport. It is large, but comfortable and understandable: there are signs in several languages everywhere. I wrote in more detail about how to get here by plane.

From Carthage Airport to Hammamet

By train

From the airport to the Tunis railway station, you can take the metro (these are ground trains) for 1 EUR (30 minutes on the way). The train stop is located near the airport, and you need to get off at the Barcelona Square station. From there, the train station is within easy reach. You can get to the station from the airport and by taxi for 10-15 EUR.

In Tunisia, the station is located on the avenue, which is called Avenue de la Gare. The reference point is the Italian Embassy, which is located on the opposite side of the station.

Trains run from Tunisia to the resort. There is one departing Tunisia at 14:20 and arriving in Hammamet at 15:26. It runs only on Saturdays, excluding public holidays. The other two run daily: 17:35–18:37 and 18:20–19:26. You can buy tickets either at the station or at. Tickets cost 5-10 EUR depending on the class you choose.

How to get from Hammamet railway station to the hotel

The train station of Hammamet is close to the post office, next to the Les Lias hotel.

By bus

In Tunisia, the bus station is called Bab Alioua. It is located opposite the Habib Thameur hospital, next to a large cemetery. You can get to it from the airport by taxi (from 10–15 EUR, 25 minutes in time) or by bus and train (from 2–3 EUR, 30 minutes on the way).

There are many buses from Tunisia to Hammamet. Travel time - 1 hour or 1 hour 40 minutes. Ticket price - 2 EUR. You can buy them right at the station.

How to get from Hammamet bus station to the hotel

The bus stop is located next to the mosque, opposite the police station. From there, take a taxi to the hotel you need, it will cost from 5 EUR.

By car

From Tunis to Hammamet, it takes a long time to drive, almost 2 hours. You will need to pay about 20 EUR for gasoline, and 2.5 EUR for roads (they are paid in Tunisia). There are several car rental companies at Carthage Airport. Cost from 40 EUR per day (specific offers can be viewed). For this you need a passport and rights. I wrote more about car rental and driving in Tunisia.

Through Monastir

Flights to Monastir are more expensive: from 1,000 EUR. Alitalia, Air France, Lufthansa have regular flights all year round with transfers in Rome, Paris or Munich. Travel time from 6 hours.

Planes arrive at Habib Bourguiba Airport, which is a 20-minute drive from the city itself. This is an old airport complex with a standard set of services for passengers.

From Habib Bourguiba Airport to Hammamet

By train

From the airport to the Monastir railway station, it is best to take a taxi (from 5 EUR). The station is located in the city center next to Avenue des Martyrs and is also named after Habib Bourguiba.

You will have to go to Hammamet with a change through the Bir Bourekba station. Two trains leave at 06:30 and 12:50 and arrive at this station at different times. There you will already need to transfer to trains to Hammamet. The cost of tickets is the same as from Tunisia (5-10 EUR), and you can buy them in two ways: or at the station at the box office.

I already wrote about how to get from the train station to the hotel you need in Hammamet in the section above.

By bus

The bus stop of Monastir is located near the Medina of the city. It is also better to go to it from the airport by taxi (from 5 EUR).

Traveling to Hammamet from Monastir by bus is more problematic. To get started, you will have to get to Sousse by minibus (20 minutes, 2 EUR) or by bus (about the same price and travel time). From there, two buses to Hammamet are already running: departing at 11:01 and 15:25 and arriving at their destination at 13:04 and 17:37, respectively. The ticket will cost you 2 EUR. You can buy it at the box office at the bus station.

I already wrote about how to get from the bus station to the hotel you need in Hammamet in the section above.

By car

Since we ourselves lived in Monastir, we got to Hammamet in this way (it took 1.5 hours). You need to move first before turning to the city of Buficha (Bouficha). Turning onto the road to it, you will soon see signs for Hammamet and Yasmine Hammamet. You still have to pass the latter, as it is located right in front of Hammamet.

In terms of expenses, we spent 15 EUR on gasoline plus about 2 EUR on roads.

When is the season. When is the best time to go

Hammamet is one of the most popular Tunisian resorts among Russians, so the tourist flow is huge in summer.

If crowding in public areas is embarrassing, it is better to come in early May or September. At this time, it is still hot, the sea is warm, and there are fewer and fewer tourists. We were in Hammamet in autumn, in October, and it was quite warm there (about +15 °C).

Hammamet in summer

Summer in Tunisia begins in early May and lasts until the end of September. At the beginning and at the end of the season, there may be rain with thunderstorms. In general, the heat during this period reaches almost +35 ° C, which is sometimes not so easily tolerated. It was hottest from about 12:00 to 16:00, during these hours it is extremely difficult to be on the street.

The water temperature is around +20 ° C, it is just like fresh milk. And near the coast it heats up quite strongly.

Hammamet in autumn

Autumn can be considered the period from early October to early December. This time is usually sunny and warm. The temperature is, of course, no longer summer: from +15 ° C, but it is quite possible to walk in a light sweater. There is almost no strong wind, and transient rains.

The water temperature is only +10 °C - it's already cold to swim.

Hammamet in spring

Spring here comes already from March, when there are more and more sunny days, and less rain and wind. The air temperature can be +25 °С, and even +30 °С.

In March and April, the sea is still, of course, a bit chilly, but already from the beginning of May, people begin to swim. Everything is as always: the farther from the coast, the colder.

Hammamet in winter

Winter in Hammamet, like in any other seaside town in Tunisia, is characterized by strong winds and rains. Although they may well be replaced by warm days when the sun shines just like in summer.

The temperature during the day is about +15 °С, in the evening - +10 °С. Swimming in this period is not only cold, but also impossible: the tides become very strong due to the wind.

Districts. Where is the best place to live

Already with something, but there are no problems with housing in Hammamet. There are just a lot of hotels, so you can safely choose those that suit you perfectly. As for the areas of the main cluster of hotels, then there are three of them:

  • Yasmine Hammamet,
  • actually Hammamet himself,
  • the northern part of the city, which is already closer to Nabeul.

Now I will tell you more about these places, and we will talk about prices in the next section.

Yasmine Hammamet

It was designed and built in the 90s of the last century. Until that time, the region did not exist at all. Hotels were rebuilt on a practically empty place, roads were laid, a Marina was made. And all this was created exclusively for tourist needs. Almost 15 kilometers of beach were the perfect reason for this.

It's very clean here. The roads are smooth, without potholes and other shortcomings. Living here is a real pleasure, but there is one thing: the area is a 20-minute drive from the city itself.

Residential areas are completely absent here, and hotels can be chosen as you please. For example, if you want to take thalassotherapy courses, then Hasdrubal Thalassa 5 * de Luxe, Alhambra 5 * or Iberostar hotels are at your service. If the budget allows you, then you can consider options such as L "Atrium Yasmine Hammamet 4 *, Mehari Hammamet 5 *, Laico Hammamet 5 *, etc. For those who want to relax, but do not spend much money, good choices are Hamilton 2*, Residence Corail, La Residence Hammamet 3* etc.

Almost all hotels are located on the first coastline. Each of them is equipped with everything necessary for tourists: swimming pools, restaurants, animation programs and shows.

Center of Hammamet

This area is suitable for those who want to feel the life and traditions of Tunisians. See how they live and how they spend their time. The center here, of course, is being cleaned, and the Medina itself too. However, do not forget about the noise, exhaust gases of cars - in general, all the delights of a big city.

If you are used to not denying yourself anything on vacation, then Hotel Khella, Residence Romane, Hotel Bel Azur Thalasso & Bungalows, etc. are at your service. If you have a more modest budget, pay attention to Les Palmiers Center de Vacances, Emira Hotel, etc. Hotels in Hammamet itself also have everything you need to receive tourists: from swimming pools to thalassotherapy centers.

It is better to settle not in the city center, where it can be noisy and drunken companies walk in the evenings, but a little away from the Medina (I marked this place on the map above). Closer to the sea there are Residence Romane or Hotel Bel Azur Thalasso & Bungalows.

Northern part of the city

The third conditional area, which is located closer to another Nabeul resort, is built up with purely modern hotels with large adjacent gardens, parks and simply green areas. The nightlife here is not as fun as in Yasmine Hammamet, so this part is suitable for those who want to relax in peace with their family or loved ones.

Of the expensive hotels, there are Radisson Blu Resort & Thalasso Hammamet, Sentido Aziza Beach Golf & Spa, Palm Beach Hammamet, etc. As for budget options, these are generally 3-star and 4-star hotels.

By and large, it makes no difference where to settle geographically in this part of the city. All hotels are well equipped, there are no special attractions here.

Helpful information

You can view hotel offers relevant for the dates of your trip, and book any option you like. If you are traveling with a family or a large company, it may be more profitable to rent an apartment. It is very convenient to search and book them through, because all offers and prices are displayed on one map. By the way, before paying for something, look for promotions and last-minute tours (for example,): sometimes it comes out much cheaper with them.

What are the prices for holidays

A full tourist package to Hammamet will cost you about 500-583 EUR, depending on the number of days. The price of a room in a 5-star hotel is from 100 EUR per day. 4- and 3-star hotels will come out cheaper: from 50 EUR per day. Accommodation in a 2-star hotel - from 17 EUR per day.

For lunch in a restaurant, you will pay about 25 EUR for two. Going to a cafe and drinking coffee with a croissant there costs from 2–2.5 EUR.

Taxi in the city is also inexpensive: from 2 EUR.

Main attractions. What to see

There are not many remarkable places in Hammamet. It is best to start exploring the city from the embankment. From there, it is not far to the Medina, a walk along which will be relatively quick.

In many guidebooks there is a mention of a certain Museum of the History of Hammamet. We searched for him for a long time in the bowels of Medina, but we did not find him. We asked the locals if they had one. We were told that it no longer works.

The most important

The most important and only attraction of Hammamet is its Medina. This is the Old City, which includes a mosque and a fortress. We did not find the entrance to the fortress itself, and only Muslims are allowed to visit the mosque - we admired everything from the outside.

As I said, the Medina of Hammamet is quite clean, but nevertheless, shabby houses are found at every turn. What is called poor, but neat.

The entrance to the Medina is located at the embankment, and you can exit to the square, from which the street goes to the city center. The streets in the Medina are very narrow, and cats run around. I do not advise you to touch them: they have not heard about vaccinations here. It is not known how this could turn out.

There are also souvenir shops in the medina. Local barkers are very persistent, so be careful not to be led into these shops. The prices may seem fabulous to you, and it is very difficult to get rid of the merchants later.

Beaches. Which is better

The beaches in Hammamet, of course, are not as wide as, say, in Mahdia, but with soft white sand. There are no stones either on the shore or at the bottom, which is very convenient in terms of swimming.

Many are afraid of jellyfish, which are supposedly "unbelievable darkness" here. In fact, they can only be from the end of July to the beginning of August, when the water in the sea is especially warm. Jellyfish at this time swim closer to the shore to breed. But it is difficult to meet them, you can not worry. Of course, vigilance should not be lost, but you should not panic either.

The beaches within the city are free, but there is no infrastructure here. Only on the coastline at the hotels there are sun loungers, umbrellas, etc. In the photo above, you can see that the entrance to the sea is gentle, and there is sand on the shore. City beaches do not have names, only hotel beaches have names (in fact, by the name of the hotel).

Beaches in the city center are visited by indigenous people (for example, the beach near the Medina, which I showed on the map below). If you do not want to meet them, relax on hotel beaches. As a rule, locals cannot go there.

The beaches of Yasmine Hammamet are almost all divided between hotels. They are well guarded and very clean.

Churches and temples. Which are worth a visit

On the territory of the Medina there is a very beautiful ancient mosque Kabir (Mosque Kbir), but, unfortunately, only Muslims are allowed to enter there.

There are no other remarkable religious buildings in the city.

parks

Near the Medina there is a small but pretty square, which I liked because there are very beautiful and colorful graffiti.

There are no other noteworthy parks in the city.

What to see in 1 day

An approximate daily routine when visiting the city may be as follows:

  • 10:00–10:30 - arrival, walk along the promenade;
  • 10:30-11:30 - walk around the Medina;
  • 11:30-12:00 - lunch in one of the restaurants;
  • 12:00–13:00 - inspection of Sebastian's house (it will be discussed below);
  • 13:00-14:00 - walk around the Medina of Yasmine-Hammamet;
  • 14:00–15:00 - visit to Carthage Land (this is an amusement park, on the territory of which there is a New Medina, more about it below);
  • 15:00–16:00 - inspection of the ruins of Puppyut (more on this below);
  • 16:00–17:00 - visit to one of the cafes.

The evening can be spent in one of the bars or clubs in Hammamet.

What to see in the surroundings

The city itself is not very rich in attractions, but there is something to see in the vicinity of Hammamet.

Sebastian's House (Dar Sebastien / Center Culturel International de Hammamet)

Near Yasmine Hammamet (3.2 kilometers) there is an interesting place that I really liked. This is the International Cultural Center of Hammamet, or the house of Sebastian. That was the name of an eccentric Romanian millionaire who decided to build a villa here in the 70s of the last century. Then an art center was set up on its territory.

We started our tour of the complex from the cultural center. Then there was an exhibition of photographs of artists who showed their vision of the sea. Nearby were various exhibits related to a greater extent to contemporary art.

Next to it are various sculptures of robots and animals made from old machine parts and other equipment.

Around the center there is a beautiful park with a greenhouse. There are very beautiful shady places where it is pleasant to walk. We did just that.

Alleys and paths led us to the house of a millionaire. This is a large bright villa with a swimming pool and magnificent sea views.

Inside, there were some pieces of furniture and everyday life of the millionaire himself, as well as many paintings by various authors from his collection, which I really liked.

If you go from the villa to the sea, you will come to a modernist statue representing Sebastian himself.

Opening hours: daily from 08:00 to 18:00.

Entry fee: 1.5 EUR.

Ruins of Pupput

On the territory of Tunisia, there are many ruins of ancient cities built during the period of the Roman Empire. One of them is located in the suburbs of Hammamet (6.7 kilometers from the city). Not much has been preserved there: a necropolis, a couple of columns, and that's almost all. Much has already been overgrown with grass, because there is no special care for the remains of the city.

Opening hours
:

  • from September 16 to July 17 - 09:30–16:30;
  • from July 18 to September 15 - 09:00–17:00.

Entry fee: 2.5 EUR.

Marina Yasmine-Hammamet (Marina)

In Yasmine Hammamet (10.5 kilometers from the center of Hammamet) there is a very beautiful Marina.

It is very pleasant to walk along it in good weather, admiring the snow-white yachts and antique-styled ships on which tourists ride.

There are many restaurants and cafes, as well as souvenir shops. But the prices in them are decently overpriced, as this is one of the tourist attractions of Hammamet.

The visit is free.

nearby islands

Pantelleria (Pantelleria)

The island closest to Hammamet (130 km) belongs to Italy, so a Schengen visa is required to visit it.

Despite its small size, it is interesting for its natural attractions. No wonder it is popular with stars such as Madonna, Sting and Giorgio Armani, who, by the way, has a villa on the island.

Here you should definitely visit the so-called natural saunas. Volcanic activity remains on the island, as a result of which steam is generated in the grottoes. Pantelleria also produces pretty good wines.

How to get there

The only catch: you can get to the island only with transfers. First by plane or ferry to Italy or Sicily, from there by water to the island. In terms of time, it will take from 16 hours, and in terms of money from 500 EUR.

Food. What to try

There are no specific features of this region in terms of cooking.

The city has a lot of restaurants, cafes and various eateries. At almost every step there are places where you can sit well and eat deliciously.

There are establishments not only with Tunisian cuisine, but also French, Italian, English or European. They serve quite tasty seafood, as well as good pizzerias.

Budget

Prices in such establishments start from 5 EUR per person:

  • Ettahrir offers large portions for little money and great views of the Mediterranean. This place is suitable for families with children. Another advantage of the restaurant is that it is located right in the city center.
  • time out- a wonderful place where you can taste very tasty and fresh fish. All dishes served there are of national Tunisian cuisine.
  • El Ksar- You can find good pizza in this restaurant. The average price tag is 10 EUR.
  • Germain surprises not only with delicious food prepared from fresh products, but also with interior design. Wicker chairs, beautiful tables - and all this in the shade of sprawling trees. It's nice to sit here when it's hot outside.
  • Pecker's Pizza- not bad, but quite standard institution.
  • Lilian Cupcakes- welcome here if you are a sweet lover. Here you can try cakes and donuts, cocktails.

Intermediate level

In such restaurants and cafes, prices start from 15–20 EUR per person:

  • Sidi Bouhdid decorated in Arabic style (at least in the way foreigners imagine it).
  • La Bella Marina Restaurant- a good place to try delicious seafood and fish.
  • Canary- it's more of a cafe serving delicious desserts: from all kinds of ice cream to cocktails or pancakes.
  • Condor suitable for those who want to eat European or French cuisine.
  • La Bouillabaisse- a restaurant with both French and Tunisian cuisine. Delicious food, large portions.
  • Movida Club Here you can taste authentic Italian cuisine. The interior is stylish yet simple. Suitable for couples who would like to sit together.
  • The Rovers Return Inn- Great place for families. They also serve alcohol.
  • La Belle Vue- very tasty food for quite adequate money.
  • Resto de laPlage- From here you have a great view of the beach and the sea. It's nice to come to this place with the whole family and dine in the shade of umbrellas.
  • Restaurant Spectacle Sheheresade along with a varied menu offers colorful and simply amazing shows with oriental dances.

Expensive

Be prepared for the fact that the price tag in such places can be as much as 50 EUR per person:

  • RestaurantLe Barberousse offers both a magnificent view of the sea and its surroundings, and simply delicious seafood dishes.
  • Hotel restaurant Hasdrubal Thalassa Hotel just great. Firstly, it is located in a beautiful building in the Arabic style. Secondly, the prices here fully justify the portions and taste of the dishes.
  • golden fish offers both a beautiful interior and delicious European cuisine, and does not hit the wallet so hard.
  • Al Kalaa- come here to feel the aroma and culture of the East. The restaurant presents Lebanese cuisine, the interior is authentic.
  • Le Jasmin is also a great place where you can have a good time, enjoying not only delicious food, but also the beautiful design of the hall.
  • macadam- another good place where you can try wonderful seafood and fish dishes.

Holidays

As such, there are no major holidays in the city.

Safety. What to watch out for

Like any other major tourist city in Tunisia, Hammamet is dangerous at night and in the evening. Especially for girls. Many Arabs are too impressed by the beauty of the Slavs, so they cannot contain their emotions at the sight of them. The best tactic is not to pay attention, but to carry on with dignity.

If you are afraid of a terrorist threat, then I can reassure you. There is a police post on every corner, so you should not be afraid. Tunisians hold on to tourists, so they do everything possible to maintain and increase their flow.

Things to do

In Hammamet, in addition to horizontal relaxation on the beach, there is something to do. For example, visit two major golf clubs Yasmine And Citrus. Prices there start from 50 EUR, depending on the tariff you choose.

The Laico Hotel even has ice skating rink made from artificial ice. Actually, the rink itself is nothing special.

On the territory of Yasmine Hammamet there is a huge complex Carthage Land. It includes both an amusement park and the so-called New Medina. This is an open-air park stylized as a typical Tunisian city. Here you can find entertainment for both adults and children. The entrance fee is 10 EUR for adults and 9.5 EUR for children.

Shopping and shops

Hammamet has many different shops and shopping centers. Souvenirs are sold here quite standard for Tunisia. Clothes and shoes of local production are not of the highest quality.

In Yasmine Hammamet, next to Carthage Land, there is Costa Mall, where you can buy souvenirs, clothes, bags, and shoes. In the same area there is a shopping center La Différence (Avenue 7 November) with a huge selection of souvenirs.

Bars. Where to go

There are many bars in Hammamet. For example:

  • Cozy bar- a typical bar where you can sit sit and have a drink. Address: Villa de Charme, Yasmine Hammamet.
  • The Sixties decorated in the style of the 60s. Address: between Da Franco restaurant and Les Citronniers hotel.
  • O'Pub- a simple but cozy establishment. Address: Highway C28.
  • sky bar- You can eat and drink there. Halls are inside and on the terrace. Address: Place des Martyrs.
  • Brauhaus Alternative Bar interestingly decorated: the walls and ceiling are covered with newspapers. Address: Place des Martyrs.

The cost of alcoholic drinks in establishments is from 5 EUR.

Clubs and nightlife

Something, and there are enough clubs in Hammamet. If you are a fan of night parties, then choose this Tunisian resort.

Oasis- one of the most popular clubs in the city. Is there some more Havana Club, Nero, Calypso, Safari etc. The choice is very large. Establishments are concentrated in Central Hammamet and Yasmine Hammamet. There is no dress code. You have to pay 5 EUR for entry. Drinks cost about the same and more.

Tunisia.

Taxi. What features exist

As elsewhere in Tunisia, taxis are yellow here. To understand if it is free, see if there is a white ceiling on top. If not, then it is no longer working or busy.

To hail a taxi, simply go to the side of the road and shout "Taxi!" Many drivers at the very least know English and French, so you will be understood if you speak one of these languages.

Only cash is accepted for payment, namely dinars (the currency of Tunisia). Taxis are metered, prices from 2 EUR.

Transport rental

Only local distributors operate in Tunisia, but renting a car is not a problem. The set of documents here is minimal: a passport and a driver's license (both European and Russian will do). There are no strict age restrictions, you can take a car from 18 years old. It will cost from 30 EUR in the off season and from 40 EUR in the season (specific offers and prices). They may require you to leave a deposit, but this is not the case in all organizations.

Gasoline costs from 5 EUR, and travel on roads (as I said, they are paid) from 0.5 EUR.

In Tunisia, traffic rules exist only on paper, so you should be very careful when driving a car. There are also very narrow streets in the city, so you need to drive carefully.

Hammamet - holidays with children

It is best to relax with children in Hammamet compared to other cities in Tunisia. You can walk with them along the Marina, frolic in Carthage Land. The hotels have animation programs, and some have special playgrounds and swimming pools - the kids will definitely not get bored there.

So, friends. To make the information publicly available, by request, I decided to post an article about this trip here.

How to get from Hammamet to Carthage, Tunisia. Baths of Anthony Pius.

On the day you start, you need to get to Tunisia, for this go to the old city - Medina, near it there is a stop for intercity buses. The stop can be found focusing on the Generale store, with a red sign, in the photo below (by the way, inexpensive products are there!). You need, they go often, every hour. You can just come and wait for the bus in the shade. You need to go to the course in Tunisia itself. The ticket price is 4.2 dinars.

Next you need to go to the station metro station "Bab alioua", which is located next to the bus station to which bus 105 brought you. In fact, it's not really a metro, it's more of a tram, but in Tunisia they are called metro. You need to sit on train number 6. You need to go to the station Tunis Marine The ticket costs 0.3 dinars (zoo milim)

Be careful, there are other trains, you need №6 At the station "Tunis marine" you need to go to railway station "Tunis nord". It is located directly opposite the exit from the Tunis marine station. Buy at the door ticket to Karhage Hannibal station for 0.7 denari, expect a train.

By train you need to go to the station Carhage Hannibal

Trains in Tunisia are not like ours, they may seem a little wild. But everything is fine, all people are friendly and ready to help, suggest.

From the train you can see the city of Tunis itself, built by the Arabs from the wreckage of Carthage.

As soon as you leave the station, cross the railway line and you will have a beautiful view of the sea through the palm trees. The Phoenicians knew where to build Carthage). Go down until you see the sign "LES THERMES ANTONIA" Turn according to the sign. 200 meters and before you will be the entrance to Carthage.

Baths is only the first object of Carthage, a small part. But it is also of great interest.

The entrance costs 10 dinars (approximately 330 rubles). Do not rush to give this money away! If you go down a little lower to the sea, you can find another entrance, which may not be guarded or controlled in any way. Here you can go for free.

It is worth getting back to Hammamet in the same way. By train: "Karhage Hannibal" tunis nord By subway: train №6 "Tunis marine" - "Bab alioua" By bus №105 in Hammamet.

It is worth noting that on the road from Hammamet to Carthage, tickets are practically not checked anywhere. It will not be difficult to drive a hare. However, remember that this is a risk and there may be checks.

Hammamet is rightfully considered the most famous resort in Tunisia.

The first resting Europeans appeared here in the 20s of the last century. Located Hammamet in the vilayet of Nabeul.

In comparison with neighboring popular resorts (Port El Kantaoui, Sousse), it has one clear advantage - everything here is geared towards recreation, there are no industrial enterprises, the city works for the tourism industry.

Hammamet can be divided into several zones, which differ markedly from each other. Moving from south to north:

  • Yasmine-Hammamet- this is the first area along the route from Enfid Airport, an exclusively tourist area: apart from hotels and excellent tourist infrastructure, there is nothing here, local residents do not live here, hotels, with a few exceptions, are located across the street from the beach (more on this in the Tunis hotels section ), there is also an amusement park Carthage Land;
  • South Hammamet- stretches for 6 km from Yasmine to the old Medina, a significant part of the hotels are located on the first coastline, many hotels have a much larger area than in Yasmine, here is the famous "disco street", one of the attractions of Hammamet - Villa Sebastian;
  • - this is the old part of the city, there are no hotels here, but there are tourists: the old Medina, Kasbah, several restaurants attract many visitors;
  • North Hammamet- here, perhaps, the best beaches in the Hammamet area, quite decent hotels, tourist infrastructure is poorly developed (outskirts of the city), in the El Mrezga area there is a small Flipper water park, many restaurants, there is a railway behind the second line of hotels (you can easily get to Nabeul , Sousse, Tunisia);
  • Nabeul- one of the oldest cities in Tunisia, there are only 8 hotels, poor tourist infrastructure, sandy beaches, but there are stones in the water, those who are looking for a quiet vacation, an inexpensive vacation, will be comfortable here.

How to get to Hammamet

  • Enfidha Hammamet International Airport (Enfidha) - 50 km;
  • Monastir Habib Bourguiba Airport (Monastir) - 110 km;
  • Tunis Carthage International Airport (Tunisia) - 70 km

When buying a tour, pay attention to the airport of arrival - charter flights arrive mainly in Enfidha and Monastir.

If you purchase a package tour, then a transfer will take you to the hotel, independent tourists can easily use a taxi or order an individual transfer.

Transport in Hammamet

  • taxi is the most convenient convenient mode of transport, relatively inexpensive, cars can be found almost near every hotel;
  • buses - the most popular route number 115 follows the entire resort (from Yasmine Hammamet to the city of Nabeul);
  • tourist locomotives;

Weather in Hammamet

Beaches in Hammamet

Beaches Hammamet slightly inferior to the beaches of Mahdia: wide, covered with fine light sand, with a gentle entry into the sea - a paradise for children. IN North Hammamet the beaches and the sea are cleaner, the depth is growing faster than in South Hammamet or Yasmine but still comfortable enough for baby bathing. In the Nabeul area, there are stones in the sea, but each hotel has areas free of stones.

Hammamet Hotels

Most of Yasmine's hotels are located across the road from the beach, with the exception of five hotels at the entrance to the resort from the south, which are located directly on the beach.

Attractions and excursions in Hammamet

To the most visited attractions Hammamet relate:

  • Medina and Kasbah- organized excursions are not carried out here, you can independently explore the Medina (admission is free), the mosque (only outside). A museum is now organized on the territory of the Kasbah (a fort in the western part of the medina) - entrance 7 TND / photography permission - 1TND;
  • George Sebastian's Villa– Sophia Loren, Andre Gide, Coco Chanel, Dwight Eisenhower, Erwin Rommel: this is just a small part of the celebrities who once visited this house, now the Hammamet Cultural Center is located here, entrance - 5 TND;
  • museum "Dar Hammamet" (Dar Hammamet)- this private museum is located on the territory of the historical Medina, here you can get acquainted with the collection of traditional wedding dresses, learn about the features of the wedding ceremony in Tunisia, entrance - 2 TND;
  • amusement park Carthage Land- located in Yasmine, a great place to relax for both adults and children, you can learn more about the park here.
  • Museum of Religions (Musee des Religions)- exhibits representing three religions (Christianity, Judaism, Islam) are collected here, the main idea is religious tolerance.

All of the above objects can be visited both as part of organized excursions and on your own (this option is much more convenient). From the region Hammamet all the most popular excursion routes are offered. From here it is convenient to get acquainted with the northern part of the country - the capital, Sidi bou Said, Carthage, Dougga, Bizerte.

Yasmine Hammamet

This is the southernmost part of the resort, everything here is built for tourists, local residents do not live here, they only work. In many sources Yasmine Hammamet isolated as a separate resort, although there is no good reason for this - the border between Yasmine and southern Hammamet is conditional. Since the transport network is well developed here, taxi prices are quite moderate, getting to any part Hammamet will not be difficult.

Yasmin attractive with a well-developed tourist infrastructure, there is an amusement park Carthage Land, many restaurants, shops, a medina built for tourists, a casino.

The vast majority of hotels are located across the road from the beach (see the relevant section of the site for exceptions), have a small area - in fact, these are typical city hotels.

Shopping in Hammamet

You can find out more about what and where to buy in Tunisia as souvenirs in the corresponding section of the site. Hammamet in this regard is no different from other resorts, except for higher prices in comparison with Djerbay or Zarzis.

  • Foodstuffs it is better to buy in General (General) - a chain of supermarkets. Buy alcohol you can here (buying alcohol in Tunisia has some features).
  • Souvenirs makes sense to buy tourist markets, in shops fix price. Shops popular with tourists Joy's, Costa Mall, Center Commercial.

)
Hammamet is good because you can make various trips from it, primarily by bus, since the railway. the station is quite far from the city. Buses go from the very center, from a stop almost opposite the General Store, though you need to keep in mind that the timetable is often not written at the stop itself, and where they go on the buses. Bus timetables (as well as railway) can be taken from the tourist information center, and there is also a plan for Hammamet and Nabeul, though not very good. There you can get all the advice.
First of all, you can go to Nabeul, located 12 km. from Hammamet, on the 115 bus. True, the old part there is not very impressive, there is no fortress, the biggest attractions are ceramic vases with oranges and Christmas trees. There is an archaeological museum with mosaics, sculptures and ceramics (5 din), which we did not get into, since they did not have change. There is also the city of the Roman city of Neapolis, or rather what is left of it, since everything is in the museum.

It is very convenient to get from Hammamet to the city of Tunis - about an hour by bus 105, going every hour (4 din). The bus arrives at the station 300 meters from the Medina and next to the "metro" (single tram network; minimum cost 450 mil, further from the length of the path). First of all, it is worth visiting the suburb of Tunisia, Sidi Bou Said (). To do this, take the metro, line 1, go to Tunis Marina, from there by train to the desired place (about 12 km, about 700 mil.). You can also walk to Tunis Marina (approx. 2 km) - through the Medina to the gates of France, then the street of France goes to the right, turning into Habib Bourguiba Boulevard. This is the so-called. "new city", that is, new in relation to the Medina - the French part. The most impressive are the eclectic cathedral (1883) and the Art Nouveau national theater (1902). Near the cathedral there is a statue of the philosopher and sociologist Ibn Khaldun (1332-1406), who was born and lived in Tunisia. It is also impressive that behind a typical European street, the streets and quarters characteristic of Tunisia open up.
Carthage is near Sidi Bou Said, a few stations towards Tunis. It is also better to plan a day on Carthage, since there are many objects and they are quite distant from each other. A single ticket for 8 objects (and this is not all in Carthage) costs 9 din (photo 1), we managed to visit 4, and some of them fluently. It is best to take a map of Carthage in advance at the information point, which is very accurate and with detailed explanations; for some reason, such a map is not given in Carthage itself. In any case, it is better to start from the Birsa hill (Carthage-Hannibal station, 7 minutes on foot), this is the sacred center of both Punic and Roman Carthage. There is also a huge catholic cathedral. On the hill there are numerous excavations of the Punic quarters proper, Roman buildings and the Carthaginian Museum. Then you can go to one of the largest amphitheaters in the Roman Empire (15 minutes on foot, taxis are not very frequent there), then return (20 minutes) to the theater, although you can just skip it, because there is almost nothing left of it, and instead of this modern concrete theater along its contour with a metal stage. Next to the theatre, there is a Roman settlement - ruins on a beautiful hill, which are very pleasant to wander around. After crossing the paths, you find yourself in the archaeological park and on the impressive ruins of the huge baths of Antonina. Just do not look at the signs, they will lead you in circles for fun. Just cross the railway road and that's it. Further, it would be worth visiting other objects (the Mahon quarter, Tophet - a cemetery for sacrificed children with requests on steles) and the port, but it was necessary to return.

It will also take a day to see the Bardo Museum and the Medina.
I will not describe the Bardo Museum, everyone knows that this is the largest museum of Roman and Christian mosaics in the luxurious palace of the rulers of Tunisia. Unfortunately there is a continuous reconstruction, so that at least a third of the halls were closed. You can get there by metro, line 4, Bardo station, 5-7 minutes walk from it. The main thing is not to miss - there are no signs and signs. Entrance 4 din, free photo.

From Bardo, you can drive a few stops back, say, to Bab El-Kadr, and walk along the street of real Tunisia, where there are no tourists, to the mosque of Halfawine. Near it is a real Tunisian bazaar, where melons cost 400 million. kg. (in tourist places 1.5 din). Halfaouin Street leads directly to the medina, rich Tunisian houses are visible along the way.
The medina of Tunis is large, but worse than the medinas of Sousse and Kairouan. Firstly, its walls were torn down and the kasbah was destroyed for military purposes by the French. Secondly, a very large trading part, including females, just in the most historical places, so, say, it is impossible to approach Oliva’s famous dream at all, but to see it only from a few angles, near the medersa, where Ibn Khaldun lived and taught, you can see only the door, and then partially hung with goods. They tried to find the museum for a long time, but it turned out to be impossible. However, the upper part of the medina is quite beautiful and deserted.

You can also make other trips from Hammamet:
Drive around Cap Bon: Nabeul (12 km) - Kelibia (bus from Nabeul, 58 km, Roman fort on the hill) - Kerkouan (12 km. well-preserved Punic settlement with original round plan) - El-Haouaria (Roman caves ), behind them Cape Bon, crowning the peninsula (but there is a military zone), and then on the other side of the peninsula back, if by car, or in the opposite direction by local transport.
Go to the Friguia Wild Animal Park, located 25 km. from Hammamet. Getting there is not so easy: next to the zoo, there is a railway station. station, but trains do not run from Hammamet, but from Bir Buregba station, so you still need to get to it. You can just take a tour. http://active.tunisia-obnovlenie.ru/aquapark/zoo/5463.html
Go to Sousse (train, bus, luage, about an hour) or Kairouan (luage, 1.5 hours) http://community.livejournal.com/ru_travel/13580969.html
Well, to make various long trips throughout Tunisia (Dugga, Sahara, etc.).

Keep in mind: alcohol is not sold in Tunisia on Friday, so people buy in bulk on Thursday or, conversely, come off with might and main on Saturday. And on Saturday and Sunday it is almost impossible to change money. They change only in hotels, but only for guests. So we wandered around Tunisia for an hour looking for change for the bus and finally found the only open point in the whole center - next to the Africa Hotel on Habib Bourguiba. And that would have had to spend the night on the street. And one more unpleasant thing - public transport is very good, but local passengers are very fond of rummaging through their pockets, and completely out of disinterested motives, such a tradition. Let's say they may well steal half a pack of cheap cigarettes, just as a souvenir. This spoils the mood a bit. In all other respects, there were no adventures, unlike the previous trip. This can be explained by correct behavior (no contact at all) and the season.
