  • Excerpt characterizing Pshada (river)

    – Well, where did you “walk”, Madonna Isidora? – my tormentor asked in a feignedly sweet voice.
    – I wanted to visit my daughter, Your Holiness. But I couldn't...
I didn't care what he thought or whether my "outing" made him angry. My soul hovered far away, in the amazing White City, which showed me the East, and everything around me seemed distant and miserable. But, unfortunately, Caraffa did not allow me to go into dreams for a long time... Immediately sensing my changed mood, “Holiness” panicked.
    – Did they let you into Meteora, Madonna Isidora? – Karaffa asked as calmly as possible.
I knew that in his heart he was simply “burning”, wanting to get an answer faster, and I decided to torment him until he told me where my father was now.
    – Does it matter, Your Holiness? After all, my father is with you, from whom you can ask everything that naturally I will not answer. Or have you not yet had time to interrogate him enough?
    – I do not advise you to talk to me in such a tone, Isidora. His fate will largely depend on how you intend to behave. Therefore, try to be more polite.
“How would you behave if, instead of mine, your father, Holiness, was here?” I asked, trying to change the topic that had become dangerous.
    – If my father was a HERETIC, I would burn him at the stake! – Caraffa answered completely calmly.
What kind of soul did this “holy” man have?!.. And did he even have one?.. What then was there to talk about strangers, if he could answer this about his own father?..
“Yes, I was in Meteora, Your Holiness, and I really regret that I will never go there again...” I answered sincerely.
    - Were you really kicked out of there too, Isidora? – Caraffa laughed in surprise.
    – No, Holiness, I was invited to stay. I left on my own...
    - It can not be so! There is no such person who would not want to stay there, Isidora!
    - Well, why? And my father, Holiness?
“I don’t believe he was allowed to.” I think he should have left. It's just that his time is probably up. Or the Gift was not strong enough.
It seemed to me that he was trying, at all costs, to convince himself of what he really wanted to believe.
“Not all people love only themselves, you know...” I said sadly. – There is something more important than power or strength. There is still Love in the world...

In the resort area of Gelendzhik you can find many different entertainments. Here tourists are offered a holiday for every taste: establishments for quiet family gatherings, beautiful embankments and alleys for walking, noisy cafes with loud music, beer festivals, but the number of places for active rest not inferior in quantity. Gelendzhik pleases with its fauna. The Black Sea coast always pleases with pleasant clear water, plenty of sunny days and beautiful views of the mountain ranges. Surely you had a desire to find out what was there, among the trees and greenery. And it’s quite easy to find out, just pay attention to the stands with excursions.

If you are a fan of active recreation with long paths and forest paths, then you can walk through the mountain thickets on your own, of course, at your own peril and risk. Although many of the attractions in these places are very visited, the territory is prepared for tourists, there are paths everywhere and cafes are located nearby. Still, you should be careful and not stray from the path along which the path trodden by visitors will lead you. Do not go far into the forest and do not interact with wild animals, although Gelendzhik does not have areas that are particularly dangerous for humans, not everyone is prepared for walks in the wild and anything can happen.

One of the hidden ones among the green trees interesting places, are Pshad waterfalls. You've probably already heard about this very popular area. And we will tell you exactly what he is famous for.

Description of the Pshada River

Pshada is a river that flows into the Black Sea. In the Gelendzhik region there is a village of the same name, which becomes the starting point for all the attractions of this area. Pshada is rich in especially beautiful and fabulous landscapes. Everything around the river is filled with the freshness and beauty of the dense forest. It is especially surprising that among this beauty one can also find especially incredible places such as dolmens and waterfalls.

We won’t tell you about dolmens here, but they are also worth a look. If you have the opportunity, along the banks of Pshada, you may come across entire islands of dolmens with their own names, which, according to local rumors, have healing properties. What I would like to pay attention to are the waterfalls. Waterfalls are a true beauty of nature. Huge water jets that fall from the cliff at incredible speed. At Pshada you will find a large number of waterfalls, many of them come not from the river itself, but from its sources. But for the convenience of tourists and guides, they are called pshad, which is true, it is much easier to designate. It will be quite difficult to find everything in one day. But even if you can visit most of them, you will surely leave yourself with wonderful memories and be able to enjoy the wonders of nature.

Waterfalls on the river:

Not particularly large, only 5-10 meters, but they create a wonderful atmosphere and give coolness on a summer day.

At the Thab River According to data, there are about 40 waterfalls. But they are not available to people. Tourists can see only a couple, the rest will have to be bypassed, since such a path is too dangerous for a person, but the waterfalls there reach 17 meters.

(a tributary of the Pshada) flows the most famous Pshada waterfalls. Which are worth talking about in more detail.

How to get there

You can easily get to the village from Gelendzhik, you need bus 106 or you can take a taxi, the ride is only 36 kilometers from the city limits. In Pshad, you can ask the locals for directions to the path or find it yourself using the signs. You will need to go upstream of the river. This is a rather difficult journey on foot, so it is better to use the services of guides who take tourists there in SUVs every day during the summer season.

Pshad waterfalls– a complex of waterfalls located at the intersection of the borders of the Seversky, Abinsky districts and the urban district of Gelendzhik Krasnodar region, in the valley Pshada River.

The exact number of waterfalls is unknown, but it is believed that there are hundreds of them in the area.

Pshada River has a channel 35 km long. Originates at the foot of Pshada Mountains(741m), and flows into Black Sea near the village of Krinitsa (urban district of Gelendzhik). The slopes of the Pshada River canyon have varied heights, in some areas they rise up to 5 meters. In some areas, the steep walls of the river form a stepped surface. The river has several large watercourses: R. Krasnaya Rechka, R. Cold Spring, R. Popeye.

The abundance of waterfalls in the Pshad Valley area is dictated by the peculiar composition and structure of the lithosphere, formed about 145 million years ago, during the Cretaceous period. The river canyons are shrouded in layered accretions of volcanic shale and clastic sedimentary rock - sandstone. The height of the waterfall cliff depends on the thickness of the pulled together plates and their inclination. The strength of the water stream and the flow speed of the Pshada River depend on the amount of precipitation that fell during the season.

The most popular Pshad waterfalls are densely dispersed over an area of 1 km², along the wooded canyon of the Krasnaya Rechka River (≈10 vdp) and in the upper reaches of the Pshada River - on Vorovsky Stream. Today, 13 Pshad waterfalls have attracted the attention of tourists.

The largest in height (up to 10m) is Big Pshadsky waterfall, also known by the name Olyapkin, named after the water thrush - Olyapka, inhabiting the valley of the Pshada and Krasnaya Rechka rivers. The waterfall is located at an altitude of 245m above sea level. The Pshad tourist shelter is located near the waterfall.

Another fairly high waterfall (7m) is located at the mouth of the right tributary of the Krasnaya Rechka River at an altitude of 270m above sea level. Official name it is not assigned to the waterfall.

The rest of the group of Pshad waterfalls accessible to tourists reaches a maximum height of 3 m.

In the valley of the Pshada River there are a large number of waterfalls with a height of 15m to 25m, but it is not possible for travelers to reach them.

4 km from the Krasnaya Rechka River, a left tributary departs from Pshada - Cold Spring stream, washing the surroundings Cold Rock/Church Ridge(384m). There is an opinion that in the valley of the stream there is a waterfall 25 m high, but no one has yet been able to discover it. On the right side of the Cold Brook it originates Mill Creek. There are also small waterfalls here (up to 8m).

About 80 more waterfalls were discovered, less than 5 km from the village of Pshada, between Chumakov Mountain(597m) and Oblego / Oblyago / Obligo(747m). The most visited is the high (≈8m) waterfall in Abramov gaps. Someone installed a figure of a Mermaid in the basin of the water boiler; perhaps this toponym will be assigned to this waterfall.

There is a leak next door Kazennaya Kochkara stream. IN Kochkarev cracks one more group of water cascades can be found (15-20).

On the opposite side of the Pshada River bed, near Moldovan mountains(779m) spilled Moldovan stream. The flow of the stream is also accompanied by an abundance of waterfalls.

Neighborhood Mount Papay have long attracted scientists and tourists with a huge number of mysterious tiled dolmens (ancient fortresses), built a long time ago in a wooded area. Disputes among local historians and local historians about the mystery of the origin of these structures are still ongoing.

Pshad waterfalls can be safely classified as another resort destination. From all regions of the country here from year to year (especially on holidays and warm weekends)Tourist groups and lovers of an active and healthy lifestyle come to relax. In the valley of the Krasnaya Rechka River, the Pshadskiye Waterfalls tourist center was built and a tent camp was equipped, on the territory of which there is a memorial obelisk dedicated to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. You can also try fried freshly caught trout by having lunch in a small cozy cafe. And of course, take a swim under the refreshing water jets. Special slings stretched along the walls allow the most daring tourists to climb to the top of the waterfall.

Toponymy

PSHADA (Pshad, Pshat) - the sources of the river are located on the southern slope of the Main Caucasus Range (GKR) at an absolute height of no more than 450 m. The length of the river is about 35 km, it flows into the sea near the village of Krinitsa. Among the rivers ChPK r. Pshada is in 7th place in length, but in terms of basin area it ranks 3rd, behind the river. Mzymte and R. Shahe. Valley of the river Pshada can be called “the valley of 100 waterfalls”. Only on the Thab River (9.5 km), the source of the river. Doguab (right tributary of the Pshada River), there are about 50 waterfalls.
The Pshada River has about 30 tributaries ranging from 3 to 20 km in length. The most famous include the rivers Krasnaya (8 km), Papay (18 km) and Doguab. The Krasnaya River is famous for the fact that in its valley there is a tourist shelter “Pshadskie waterfalls” and the Olyapkin waterfall, about 9 meters high.
The following names also have the same name: the village of Pshada, Mount Pshada (741.1 m), the Shirokaya Pshadskaya Shchel farm and the Pshadsky pass. The etymology of the hydronym is difficult (ambiguous). Some translations are associated with the Georgian “psha” - a spring or water flowing in spring. According to other sources, the name is based on the Adyghe-Abkhazian “psh” - associated with the concept of “river” or the purely Abkhaz term “apshada” - “calmness” or “calm valley”.
Others see the hydronym Pshaade as a phrase meaning “shrouded in fog.” Perhaps the name comes from the word “pyedey” (pschede) - a botanical term meaning beech or hazel (hazelnut), which grow in sufficient quantities in the river valley.

Waterfalls in the Pshada river basin. The Pshada River and its side tributaries are famous for their abundance of waterfalls. Getting to them is usually not easy. Therefore, you may not be able to meet it in one day of light. A road has been laid from the village of Pshada upstream, but either a Niva or an all-terrain vehicle, the Ural, can travel along it (and only in low water). From the north, approach either along the Ubin and Afipsa valleys, or through the Arched Pass along the Papaya River valley.

There are several waterfalls in the Kochkareva Gap on the right tributary. On one of them, over thousands of years, a giant stalactite has been formed, in the figurative expression of the famous Kuban scientist and local historian V.R. Tikhomirov, reminiscent of an alligator trying to climb onto a ledge.

300 meters above the mouth of Kochkara, the Gorlyanov stream flows into Pshada from the opposite side (right tributary). There are more than a dozen waterfalls 4-10 m high.

The upper reaches of the Thab River are known as the “Gorge of Forty Waterfalls”. Many of them are impassable and are bypassed. Waterfalls up to 15-17 m high are not uncommon here.

On the Black River, the left tributary of the Papaya River, which in turn is the right tributary of the Pshada River, Papaya Falls became famous. They are mentioned in detail in the guidebook “Across the Low Mountains of the Western Caucasus” (author - V.N. Koveshnikov, director of the Krasnodar regional station for young tourists). To the waterfalls from the abandoned village of Cherny Aul - 2.5-3 km, up the gorge-shaped valley. At first, you come across minor rapids and waterfalls, then waterfalls appear up to 3 m high, and a little higher - 8 m. The waterfall is surrounded by an amphitheater of rocks up to 25 m high. After 10 meters, another ledge is formed with a water drop of up to 7 m. Even higher, several waterfalls of 4 -6 m each. On some of the waterfalls, crusts of limestone and clay have formed over a long period of time.

Many rivers of the Krasnodar region originate in the Caucasus mountains. One of them is Pshada, famous for the fact that it forms many waterfalls, and in its valley it stores ancient monuments - dolmens. The charm of the river and the surrounding attractions every year attract vacationers of all stripes: rock climbers, esotericists, tourists hiking in the Caucasus, and local residents who came here for the weekend.

Like all mountain rivers, the Pshada is fickle. During floods, it suddenly turns into a menacing torrent. But the water drops in it as quickly as it rises, and Pshada turns into a peaceful stream. Not only the mood changes, but also the course of the river along its entire length. Upstream, it is sandwiched between two rocky steep banks, sheltered by a dark forest from the bright sun and rolling over stone boulders with its waves. Pshada meanders through the gloomy gorge, carving out a path for itself. The lower you go, the freer the river becomes, it overflows and flows slowly through the valley. Nothing disturbs her peace, not even the wind. He is truly a rare guest here. After all, even the name “Pshada” itself, according to one version, is translated from Abkhazian as “Valley of Calm”.

There is one touching legend associated with this name. She talks about those distant times when the gods lived together with people. In the vicinity of the Pshada River, on a mountain, then the Lord of the Wind, Boreas, settled. He had a bad temper and did not like mere mortals. His main fun was to fly over the valley, river, mountains, destroying everything in his path. Imagine his surprise when he saw a small human house in his domain. A girl and her grandfather settled next to him. They turned out to be gardeners and began to arrange their plot, which became beautiful before our eyes. The god of the wind was haunted by their happiness. Unable to bear it one day, he decided to teach the inhabitants of the valley a lesson and rushed towards them, trying to wipe the defenseless house off the face of the Earth. But anger is a bad advisor. In a fit of emotion, Borey miscalculated his strength and missed - he hit the rock with all his might. The grandfather, meanwhile, was not taken aback and had already raised the stone over the head of the helpless Lord of the Wind, but his granddaughter stopped him. The girl nursed Borey and took care of him. He, in turn, fell in love with her for her kindness and was ready to fulfill any of her wishes. When the Lord of the Wind grew stronger, she wished that he would leave the valley once and for all. Borey kept his promise, and since then only occasionally small stray winds visit the environs of Pshada.

But people do not live along the entire length of the river. In its lower reaches, civilization is all around: cafes, buses and excursions. And closer to the sources, in the mountains, people are not a frequent visitor. Many would like to visit Pshady waterfalls, but most of them are quite inaccessible, so not everyone gets to them. The difficult road is worth the views that open in the upper reaches of the Pshada. Compressed by two rocky masses, the river meanders and rolls on mountain rapids. Foamy tributaries rush towards it through narrow gorges. There are about a hundred waterfalls in the Pshada River basin, but some of them are inaccessible and have to be walked around.

The mountain river is beautiful along its entire length! Along it there are not only natural, but also archaeological attractions. For example, the famous dolmens of Pshada. Those tourists who like wild recreation and pristine nature will no doubt appreciate the upper reaches of the mountain river, where brave daredevils reach by overcoming natural obstacles. Mountains, rivers, green forests and fresh air - here there is everything that a simple city dweller needs to take a break from office work, dusty roads and monotonous routine.
