Children's resorts in Montenegro. Montenegro with children

And I still can’t finish writing everything I planned to write about our last year’s trip to this warm and cozy country. I will try very hard to make today’s post useful for young parents who, like us a year ago, decided to go to Montenegro with a small child. Our Tisha was 7 months old at the time of the trip and this was his first big trip.

The most important thing that I would like to note is that all the participants of the trip: both Tikhon and his parents, really liked the country. It seems to me that this is an almost ideal option for a holiday at sea with a baby: the flight is not far, the climate is mild, the infrastructure is quite developed, the products are familiar. And a lot more, which I’ll tell you about below.

Let's talk about choosing a place to live. We traveled around the country a little, toured the Bay of Kotor, visited several cities, and came to the conclusion that the best place to live with a small child in Montenegro is Budva. I'll try to describe why. First of all, it is easy to move with a stroller, which is very important for young parents. Sidewalks, traffic lights, ramps at intersections - not all Montenegrin resorts have all this, but they do in Budva.

There are also plenty of places in Budva for walking with your baby. There is a long, long Budva embankment and a small quiet park. If you wish, you can also walk to the neighboring villages of Becici or Rafailovichi. Even with a stroller, you will have absolutely no difficulties.

This is us on a walk in Budva Park. It is very small, but still far from the beach and the road, the place is quiet and pleasant.

If children have already grown up and active games are relevant, then, as in any other country, playgrounds come to the rescue. And again, there are many of them in Budva, according to our subjective assessment, more than in other cities. There are playgrounds right on the beach.

And just like ours, in the courtyards of residential buildings.

Well, perhaps I’ll also add about the shops of Budva, both in the center and on the outskirts of the city there are a lot of very decent supermarkets that have a large selection of goods for babies: diapers, baby cosmetics, baby food and the like. There are also small markets where you can always buy fresh fruits and vegetables.

In general, it seemed to us that Budva was simply created for living and relaxing with children. Perhaps this is where its advantages end, so I will also discuss the topic of holidays with children in Montenegro in general.

Flight. The flight from Moscow to Tivat or Podgorica takes about 3.5 hours. What immediately catches your eye is the number of children on board. There are especially many very young children; apparently many parents agree with us that Montenegro is an excellent holiday option with babies.

Housing. The main type of housing for rent in Montenegro is apartments, apartment-type rooms that have everything you need, including a kitchen. Which is much more convenient than standard hotel rooms if you have children. We rented an ordinary apartment and generally felt at home.

Products and food. Better than at home :) No, really! This is something you definitely shouldn't worry about. The products in cafes and shops are of very high quality, the cuisine in the establishments is delicious, fruits and vegetables are local, fresh and very tasty.

Beaches. Overall I really liked the Adriatic. The beaches vary from sandy to large pebbles, mostly very picturesque and comfortable.

The azure sea, good ecology and affordable prices have made Montenegro a popular European destination for families with children. There is no need to torture yourself with English lessons - the local language is quite easy to understand, and many locals speak Russian.

Features of holidays in Montenegro with children

Montenegro can hardly be called a beach country. Sandy beaches are very rare here, and all of them, with the exception of the resorts of the Ulcinj Riviera, are made of imported sand. Natural beaches are mostly rocky or pebble with an uneven bottom, and the sea water is clean but cool. Even on the hottest days, the water temperature rarely rises above +25°C. The warmest water in the Bay of Kotor is +27°C - this is where tourists vacationing in Montenegro with children advise going.

Despite the reigning cult of the child in the country, the selection of baby canned food in stores is not at all rich. The broths and porridges that are familiar to us are not common in public catering establishments. However, there are always fruits and pastries on sale, and pizza and spaghetti with seafood can be ordered in any cafe.

When to go?

The second half of summer in Montenegro is characterized by high prices and crowded beaches, so this period is not recommended for family holidays. It is better to go in September, when the sun is not so aggressive, the sea water has already warmed up thoroughly, and there are a lot of ripe fruits on the market.

Some also prefer to vacation in June, but despite the high air temperature of +28°C, the water in the Adriatic Sea warms up reluctantly, and its temperature at the beginning of summer is only +21...+23°C.

Rent a car- this is the best way to travel! - reliable and convenient car rental service in Montenegro. Choose a car to suit your taste and budget - there is a wide choice. The cost of renting a car is from 10 euros per day. Do you have any questions? The Russian-speaking support service will help you with everything.

The best resorts for families with children

Montenegro is a country with a mountainous landscape, located on hills, so tedious descents and ascents are inevitable. Pebble and sandy beaches are suitable for families with small children. Budva Riviera- close to, there is all the entertainment and a well-developed tourist infrastructure.

IN Budva beautiful historical center, but the lively city atmosphere is more suitable for youth recreation. Vacationers with children prefer quiet and peaceful suburbs. For example, Becici, where there are also cafes, restaurants, children's attractions and a water park, but at the same time the holiday is quieter and more affordable.

Cheap apartments Petrovac often recommended for family holidays - there is a sandy beach with a good entrance to the sea, ancient buildings from the Middle Ages and the purest pine air. True, in the middle of summer the local beaches suspiciously resemble our Black Sea ones - there are so many people that there is no room for an apple to fall.

Apartments in one of the most popular resorts in Montenegro - islands Saint Stephen- ideal for holidays with children, but very ruinous for the wallet. Luxurious beaches are located on both sides of the spit connecting the island to the mainland. One beach is public, the second can only be accessed by guests of the famous complex.

At the resorts Bay of Kotor There are also sand and pebble beaches suitable for family holidays. There is a calm sea here, without waves or strong currents, and the warmest water in all of Montenegro. IN Tivat beautiful embankment and playground, ancient town Kotor attractive from an excursion point of view. And here Herceg Novi with its endless stairs it will be tiring for mothers with strollers, and besides, the city only has concrete beaches.

The best hotels in Montenegro for families with children - 2019

The modernization of the hotel base began not so long ago, so the hotel service is still inferior to the Turkish all-inclusive. The best hotels are located on the island of Sveti Stefan and in Budva, but here are also the highest.

Most often, tourists stay in 3* hotels or rent private villas and apartments. True, for independent tourists there is a problem with places on the beach - at the height of the season, most of the coastline is occupied by hotel sun loungers, and there are practically no free places to relax.

We have selected hotels in Montenegro that are suitable for families with children - with good reviews from tourists and high ratings. They operate on an all-inclusive or full board basis, are located on the 1st or 2nd line and have a variety of entertainment for children.

Last minute tours search on services (gives a 1-3% discount to our readers) and - they compare offers from 120 tour operators. Want to save money? Explore our.

Hotel Aleksandar 3*

Aleksandar, according to reviews from tourists, is a good and inexpensive hotel for a family holiday with children in Montenegro in 2019. It is part of the Slovenska Plaza complex, and vacationers can use the entire infrastructure of neighboring hotels. There is a swimming pool with sea water - convenient for kids. Children really enjoy the animation, and adults are happy that they don’t have to worry about them. The hotel is located on the first line.

Iberostar Bellevue 4*

One of the best hotels in Montenegro for families with children in 2019 includes the Iberostar Bellevue with all-inclusive meals. The hotel is located in the Becici resort on the 1st line, the beach is small pebbles and clean. Mostly married couples stay here, as there are good conditions for children, including animation. The reviews are wonderful.

Montenegro Beach Resort 4*

In reviews of this hotel, tourists especially note the good cuisine, cheerful animation, excellent spa area, and strong Wi-Fi signal. It has its own sandy beach, which is carefully maintained. For adults - hammam, saunas, jacuzzi, heated pool. The service is excellent.

Montenegro is a beautiful country, and it would be unforgivable not to see the ancient fortresses of Budva and Kotor, the panorama of Lake Skadar and St. Stephen. Little tourists will be interested in visiting the Adventure Park on Mount Lovcen or the water park in Becici. For travel, it is better to rent a car, since bus service is poorly developed, and prices rise sharply during the high season.

Since most of the beaches in Montenegro are pebbly, you should also worry about special shoes for your child. You also need to think about entertainment and toys; in Montenegro there is not much entertainment for children, and not every hotel has water parks and good playgrounds.

Montenegro is a small country, but its territory is simply filled with amazing opportunities for a variety of pastimes. To begin with, of course, you need to decide on the type of vacation that is closest to your liking, and only then choose where it is better to relax in Montenegro.

What you need to learn when traveling to Montenegro

When going abroad with young children, parents carefully study the entertainment sector of resorts, their ecology and infrastructure. A trip to Montenegro is no exception. For our tourists, this is a friendly country, but it is dominated by rocky beaches, which leaves a certain imprint on the holiday.

This article has compiled a list of the best Montenegrin places where you can have a good rest with your child in the summer, which resorts are ideal for little tourists, so you can plan your vacation correctly.

Holidays in Montenegro for children of any age

It's time to break stereotypes. Yes, this region is filled with rocky beaches and concrete platforms, but there are also plenty of sandy, specially equipped strips. Montenegro is ideal for infants, as well as for middle and high school students. Here we offer classic children's holidays:

  • Summer camps;
  • Wellness centers;
  • There are a huge number of recreation centers.

Friendly families with grandparents walking with several children are a common occurrence in Montenegro. Many tourists come here: with kangaroo carriers, babies in their arms and strollers. There are several reasons why family travelers choose Montenegro:

  • Beaches – most of them have a Blue Flag;
  • Calm atmosphere - hospitality, Slavic cordiality, democratic attitude towards guests;
  • Excellent ecology - parents remain to live in Montenegro so that the baby is born healthy;
  • The climate is humid and mild.

For a family holiday, it is better to choose uncrowded resorts with developed infrastructure, but here are the requirements: requirements for the place of rest should be as follows:

  • Climatic features - warm, soft and clean sea;
  • Comfortable beach - with a smooth descent and without stones;
  • Entertainment for children - only outside the hotel;
  • The hotel must be suitable for tourists with children and it is advisable that it operates on an all-inclusive basis.

Let's find out what the best resorts are, where you can have a wonderful holiday with children.

In a word, your summer at these resorts will pass “without a hitch”!

Historical and natural attractions of Montenegro

What do you think Montenegro has in abundance - that’s right, a variety of attractions and interesting places. As for various historical monuments, tourists who are not indifferent to antiquities will be interested in looking at the old parts of most seaside resorts:

  1. Ruins of Svach;
  2. There are ancient buildings in Cetinje;
  3. Numerous monuments of Herceg – Novi, Risan and Kotor;
  4. Fortress in Petrovac;
  5. Old town in Bar and Budva.

All these sights are worth seeing. The many ancient churches of Tivat, Podgorica and Budva, the ancient monasteries of Moraca, Ostrog and Cetinje, as well as the architecture of the island of St. Stephen are also quite interesting.

Montenegrin nature is extremely diverse and beautiful. A significant part of its territory is covered with mountains, therefore, even the most traditional trip from one city to another allows the tourist to admire the incredibly beautiful landscapes. Natural places are always included in the arsenal of must-see travel destinations. Biograd Nature Reserve, mountains Lovcen and Durmitor, Black Lake, Tara Canyon, as well as Skadar Lake.

Ecotourism is developing rapidly and actively in Montenegro. For travelers, comfortable villages are being built, in which only a healthy lifestyle is promoted.

Adherents of nudism also vacation in Montenegro. In Montenegro there is an almost unique phenomenon called the “nudist village”, located on Ada-Bojana.

On the territory of Montenegro there are many mineral healing springs, which have been used for centuries to treat both adults and children. The institute called Igalo in Herceg Novi, where various ailments are cured, is also known throughout European countries.

The resorts of the Budva Riviera are perfect for holidays with children in Montenegro. Since these resorts are famous for their sandy beaches and warm sea. I can recommend to you the resorts Becici and Rafailovici. These are two small villages with well-developed infrastructure. There is very picturesque nature and well-groomed beaches with convenient access to the sea. The Becici resort was even awarded the title of the best resort in Europe. There are also very good beaches in the resort of Przno, the mountainous terrain of this area and dense vegetation reliably protect them from the wind, so the sea there is always warm and calm without waves. Holidays there are calm and measured, there are no noisy parties or crowds of tourists, so it is quite suitable for traveling with children. Another resort, with an excellent location just 6 km from Budva (center) and 28 km from the airport, is Milocer. There is also very beautiful nature and good beaches, and the location not far from Budva makes it possible to visit its entertainment places and excursions, spending the holiday itself away from the noise, bustle and main crowd of tourists. Holidays in the resort of Sveti Stefan are very attractive from the point of view of entertainment. Due to the special geographical location of the island, excursions from here are possible to anywhere in Montenegro. From there you can go with the whole family on a boat trip on a yacht. The beaches here are small pebbles, which is also good for families with children, and the sea is always warm and calm. The resort of Petrovac seems simply created for a relaxing family holiday. It is located 17 km from Budva and is surrounded by beautiful olive groves. Despite the fact that there are quite a lot of entertainment venues there, they all close no later than zero o’clock, after which you can safely put the children to bed. True, this resort has only two beaches, the main one and Lucice. On the main beach, children will not be able to splash around near the shore, since there the sea suddenly becomes deep, but on Lucice beach they will be able to frolic as much as they like for their own pleasure. The town of Sutomore is famous for its well-groomed sandy beaches; this resort is located between Bar and Petrovac. The local sand has a special mineral composition that has healing properties. The beaches have all the water activities such as catamarans, parachutes, banana boats, etc. Another reason to choose this resort is the relatively low cost of the holiday. This resort is chosen by those who want to get a quality holiday at a reasonable price. And the last resort on the Budva Riviera suitable for families with children is Bar. There is a very nice sandy and pebble beach with reddish sand and many coves with calm water.

  • Short flight
  • Very welcoming and friendly local people who love children
  • No language barrier
  • Mesmerizing nature
  • More than 73 km of beaches for every taste (sand, pebble, concrete)
  • More budget holiday compared to neighboring European resorts
  • The purest waters of the Adriatic Sea
  • Clean air and mild climate, suitable for children and those suffering from respiratory diseases

Montenegro FOR CHILDREN

The romantic poet Lord George Byron wrote about Montenegro: “At the moment of the birth of our planet, the most beautiful of the meetings of land and sea took place in Montenegro... When the pearls of nature were sown, a whole handful fell on this land...”

UNESCO gave its definition of the beauty of the country, calling the Durmitor massif “a natural phenomenon of exceptional beauty and aesthetic importance.” What can we add to this?

Only that a family holiday in Montenegro means relaxing on the shores of the warm and surprisingly clear Adriatic Sea, walking through old towns, picnics in the fresh air and complete serenity.

Yes, in terms of respectability the country is still inferior to Greece, Italy, even Bulgaria, but in terms of cordiality and hospitality - not at all. Find out from our article why holidays with children in Montenegro bring so much pleasure.

Where is Montenegro

Montenegro is a state in South-Eastern Europe, in the western part of the Balkan Peninsula. Montenegro borders on Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the northwest, Serbia in the northeast, Kosovo in the east, and Albania in the southeast. The southwestern coast of the country is washed by the Adriatic Sea.

In 2010, the country became a candidate member of the European Union, but is not part of the Schengen area. Citizens of Russia, Ukraine and other countries do not need a visa to travel to Montenegro.

Vacation with children

Montenegro - one of the most environmentally friendly countries in the world with a mild Mediterranean climate, it is therefore not surprising that almost any resort is a resort with many children.

You can come here with an infant to breathe in the sea air, and with older children who are ready to alternate between sun and sea baths. There are no poisonous creatures living in the Adriatic Sea, so swimming in the shallow waters is pleasant and safe.

Holidays in Montenegro with children also provide excellent opportunities for travel and sightseeing. Thanks to the small size of the country, you can visit all the interesting places during your vacation (especially if you travel by car).

The natural diversity of Montenegro is impressive: Adriatic beaches, Bay of Kotor, Lake Skadar, Durmitor National Park, Tara River Canyon. How do you like the idea of offering a teenager not extreme rides in an amusement park, but natural extreme sports - or windsurfing?

Often important factors in favor of a holiday in Montenegro for our compatriots are the visa-free regime, as well as a wide selection of budget accommodation options (this mainly applies to the private sector).

But let’s be completely objective: the resorts of Montenegro also have disadvantages. For example, during the high season (July-August) many beaches are overcrowded, which certainly affects the quality and comfort of your holiday.

At the resorts of Montenegro there is not yet as much entertainment for children as we would like, so it doesn’t hurt to take your favorite toys, books, coloring books with you on vacation - something that will help keep your child occupied.

In addition, those families who have already managed to relax with their children at European seaside resorts are disappointed with the tourism infrastructure of Montenegro.

But in recent years, there has been some revival in this area: modern hotels and villas are appearing on the map of tourist cities, supermarkets are being built near resort towns, and beaches are being developed.

Another disadvantage is that Montenegrins smoke a lot and everywhere, despite the law banning smoking in public places. Sometimes this creates inconvenience when relaxing on the beach or having lunch at a national restaurant.

Many shortcomings are made up for by the hospitality of Montenegrins. Local residents are always ready to help and do it sincerely. This atmosphere is an integral part of a good holiday in Montenegro with children.

When is the best time to go?

The tourist season in Montenegro never seems to stop. In summer people come here to sunbathe on the seashore, in spring and autumn to walk around old towns or go hiking in the mountains, and in winter to go skiing.

However, there is a period when the demand for housing reaches its maximum, and with increased demand, prices also rise. Of course, the rush occurs in the summer months, that is, during school holidays and vacations.

On the one hand, the weather in summer is favorable for a beach holiday, on the other hand, overcrowding of beaches and high prices can spoil the pleasure. How to get around this inconvenience?

We recommend choosing May or September for a holiday with a child.

In May, the beach season is just opening, so there are relatively few vacationers - this is a good time to travel with a baby to Montenegro. And in September, tourists leave, and one can only envy those who relax on the Adriatic coast during the velvet season.

September is also ideal because the sea at the beginning of autumn is very warm, while in May few dare to swim. The swimming season in Montenegro starts only in mid-June, but it lasts until the end of September.

And again, praise for September: if you are deciding when is the best time to go to Montenegro to see the country, choose the beginning of autumn. Clear weather without rain lasts until October - take advantage of this time to visit the country's attractions.

Weather and climate

How not to worry about the weather if you are planning a vacation at sea? You just need to choose the right time to travel. In Mediterranean countries, summer begins early, and the holiday season in Montenegro starts in May.

The air temperature in the last month of spring rises to +22° C, the days are sunny, and after short rains it is so easy to breathe. However, not everyone is in a hurry to come to the resorts for the opening of the season, because the sea in the spring is still very cold for children to swim.

In June the heat increases. The air warms up to +26° C, and this contributes to the sea becoming warmer every day.

July and August are the peak of heat in Montenegrin resorts. Thermometers already rise to +29-30° C in the morning. Don’t let the fresh breeze from the sea deceive you: during these months you can sunbathe only in the morning or evening, you need to use sunscreen and remember to wear hats.

Many people consider the best holiday in Montenegro with children to be in September. The heat is finally subsiding, and the sea, which has warmed up over the summer, is in no hurry to cool down.

The air temperature at the beginning of autumn stays at +26° C, and do not be alarmed if the weather forecast promises cold weather and rain - after which pleasant warmth will soon return.

By mid-October, the air temperature drops to +21° C, and the beaches of Montenegro are empty. The rains begin and will last until mid-April.

Nights on the Adriatic coast are very cold. In May, the air temperature drops to +12° C as soon as the sun drops below the horizon. In June-August the night temperature is +16-18°C, in September +15°C.

But the climate of Montenegro is heterogeneous: when it is hot on the coast, moderate warmth sets in in the mountainous areas, and in winter the seaside resorts do not experience frost at all, while in the mountains the temperature drops to -5-10° C.

The slopes of the Durmitor massif are covered with snow from December to April - and this is an excellent reason to spend your holiday in Montenegro skiing.

Sea water temperature

On a clear day, the sea rolls the sun's reflections on the waves and seems to wink: play with me, take a dip, freshen up. And if the calendar shows July, August or September, dive into the water with confidence: during these months the water temperature in Montenegro is +23-25° C.

But in May, when the sun is hot like summer, the water in the sea is too refreshing - only about +18° C. To open the swimming season, we recommend waiting until the beginning of June, when the sea temperature rises to +21° C.

The sea in Montenegro warms up later and cools down faster than on the islands of Greece or on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey.

The optimal time to swim to your heart's content is July, August and the first half of September. In summer and early autumn, the water temperature is +24-25° C. By the end of September, the water temperature drops to +21° C, and in October it is only +20° C.

Treatment

When choosing which resorts in Montenegro are suitable for families with children, pay attention to the cities where you can combine a beach holiday with wellness.

Thus, the climate of the Hercegnov Riviera is suitable for the treatment of diseases of the upper respiratory tract. Healing mud and mineral water are also extracted here. The region is famous for medical institutes offering treatment programs for adults and children.

The best conditions for the treatment of pulmonary, cardiac, and neurological ailments are in the town of Igalo. Prčanj is known for its air that is beneficial for the treatment of asthma.

Nutrition

Montenegrin hotels, with rare exceptions, do not operate on an all-inclusive basis. Therefore, tourists have two ways to organize meals - eat in restaurants or prepare food themselves.

Among the restaurants, we recommend choosing those that serve Montenegrin cuisine and where locals eat.

As a rule, such establishments are located away from the beaches. Don’t rush to order several dishes at once - not every person is able to cope with the huge portions that are served in national restaurants.

Catering establishments along the embankment are usually designed for tourists. Prices here are higher and portions are smaller.

What can you offer your child from Montenegrin cuisine? Almost everything: salads, soups, meat, fish, vegetables. All this is prepared without excess fat and spices, and therefore is suitable for baby food. In addition, fish soup made from local fish or duvech, similar to pilaf, are simply very tasty.

In addition to restaurants serving national cuisine, Italian restaurants and pizzerias are common in Montenegro.

If you plan to cook yourself, you can buy the necessary products in supermarkets, small shops, vegetable and butcher shops, and markets. The cheapest vegetables and fruits are usually sold in supermarkets and street stalls.

Transport

Public transport in Montenegro may not be needed if you dream of spending your entire vacation by the sea. But as soon as you want to go on an excursion, you need to stand on the side of the road, wait for the bus, wave your hand and hit the road.

The lack of stops and clear schedules is a feature of Montenegrin buses. Equipped stops with traffic schedules are available only in large cities.

You should not rely on the schedule, since buses are often late, but you need to keep in mind that transport in Montenegro rarely runs.

The interval on most routes is 1 hour. Only in Budva buses run every 15-20 minutes.

The fare depends on the distance. Travel within the city and nearby suburbs costs 1-2.5 euros. There are no discounts on tickets for children in Montenegro.

Sometimes it makes sense to take a taxi. Licensed taxis are equipped with meters; payment is charged for landing (0.50-2 euros) and for each kilometer of travel (0.80-1 euro). Private taxi drivers set their own price, which can and should be negotiated.

The most convenient way to get around Montenegro is by car. It eliminates the problem of long waits at stops, transfers on the way to mountainous areas, and tiring travel without air conditioning.

Cars can be rented at the airport and major tourist centers. The country has no problems with gas stations, parking, or compliance with traffic rules. But you need to take into account that special caution is required on mountain roads.

What to do with your child

Children's entertainment is not Montenegro's strong point. There are more opportunities here for those who love excursions, outings, and active recreation.

But still, young travelers will not be bored: we have prepared a list of places where you can spend time with your child.

Excursions and boat trips

Walking around the old towns of Montenegro is also good entertainment. Narrow streets, red roofs, rough walls of fortresses, stairs diving up and down are no worse than a game labyrinth, and they contain much more surprises.

For example, in Budva everyone wants to visit the Citadel. But few people know that the city has preserved old fortress walls, along which you can walk and view the city from above, as the guards did.

And even fewer people have heard of the “Door to the Sea” - a street next to the archaeological museum that actually ends in a door separating land from water.

There is also an old citadel in Ulcinj, although to get to it you have to climb a rocky cape. For a preschooler who is not yet interested in the history of wars, offer a walk through a pine grove where curious and trusting squirrels live.

In Tivat, the main attraction is the Island of Flowers, where the ruins of a monastery are preserved. We also recommend visiting the Vrmac peninsula, where an old fortress stands on a high hill. During hot hours, it’s nice to take a walk in the botanical garden, the collection of which was formed thanks to the fact that sailors brought rare plants from distant countries.

The main feature of Herceg Novi is the endless stairs climbing up the hills. They connect three fortresses, built at different times. With a small child who is not ready for long walks, we recommend taking a walk in Boka Park.

You can really get lost in Kotor: the city was designed as a trap for the enemy. To walk around Kotor without fear of losing your way, keep in sight the bell tower of St. Tryphon (or look at the map).

Cities on the shores of the Bay of Kotor - Herceg Novi, Kotor, Tivat - can be visited while traveling by car.

But it is much more interesting to go on a sea excursion with calls at ports, visiting beautiful beaches and sightseeing in these places - for example, the man-made island of Gospa od Skrpjela, the area of which is increasing every year.

From Budva you can also go to. The two main routes are to St. Stephen, a respectable resort island, and to the island of St. Nicholas, where secluded beaches are located.

The list of interesting places, of course, does not end there. You can read about what else to do in Montenegro with a child in the “What to see” section.

Sea and beach

The coastline of Montenegro stretches for 73 km, and all these are beaches, beaches, beaches - long and tiny, pebbly and sandy, full of entertainment and completely quiet.

Some beaches belong to hotels, which improve the shore and set entry rules. All municipal beaches are free, although you have to pay to use a sun lounger and parasol.

The legislation of Montenegro allows no more than half of the public beach area to be occupied by sun loungers. The second half of the territory is reserved for those who prefer to sunbathe on a towel, mat or simply on the sand.

Every year, the coast of Montenegro is decorated with “blue flags”, awarded to beaches for cleanliness, safety and convenient infrastructure. This award was given to the beaches of the Lustica Peninsula, the resorts of Becici, Rafailovici, Petrovac, Sutomore, Ulcinj. But those beaches over which the “blue flag” does not fly are usually also clean and well-groomed.

How to choose a place for a beach holiday in Montenegro? We invite you to find out where the most family-friendly beaches are located.

If you like to walk on the sand, and your child is ready to sculpt Easter cakes for hours, choose for relaxation Becici, Rafailovici, town of Igalo, suburbs of Tivat - the villages of Seljanovo and Donja Lastva. The pride of Ulcinj - a 13-kilometer sandy beach Velika plaza.

There are more pebble beaches in Montenegro: the Lustica peninsula, the village of Kalardovo near Tivat, the coast of Budva and Petrovac are famous for them. The sea on pebble beaches is cleaner than on sandy beaches. But sometimes (for example, in Becici) the bottom is covered with sharp pebbles - in this case it is advisable to stock up on protective slippers.

On most beaches the bottom drops very smoothly. In shallow water, even the most cautious kids feel safe.

The beaches of Herceg Novi, Kotor and Tivat are the least convenient for a seaside holiday in Montenegro. The shore here is covered with large pebbles, and more often there are concrete platforms from which you have to go down stairs into the water.

Despite the impressive length of the coastline, in the high season all resort beaches are crowded. To relax without fuss, we recommend choosing country beaches or staying in small resort villages.

Windsurfing and diving

The wind that raises waves on the Adriatic Sea can disturb swimmers, but delights fans of windsurfing and kitesurfing. From May to October, here you can glide through the waves on a board under sail or holding on to a wind-filled kite.

Experienced kitesurfers prefer the beaches of Ulcinj - Velika Plaža and Ada Bojana Island, but windsurfing centers also operate in Budva.

If you are so fascinated by the dexterity of surfers that you want to learn how to handle a board in the same way, take training in Ulcinj schools - they are considered the best in Montenegro. It only takes an hour to learn how to get on the board out of the water and move forward.

Children who are 10-12 years old can join the training or even relax in a camp where they devote maximum time to kitesurfing.

From a diving point of view, the Adriatic Sea is also of interest. There are dive sites along the entire coast of Montenegro: these are coral reefs inhabited by fish, underwater caves, and sunken ships.

The reefs are good for beginners who are making their first dives after being trained at one of the diving centers (they operate at all major resorts).

But the Becici resort has its own vision of active recreation. There is a water skiing and wakeboarding facility here. It is intended for those who have decided to try water skiing for the first time: the chances of success are almost one hundred percent.

Alpine skiing in Montenegro

It’s always surprising when countries that welcome lovers of heat and beach holidays in the summer, equally hospitably welcome fans of alpine skiing in the winter. Montenegro is among such countries.

Ski holidays in Montenegro with children are very popular, and here's why:

  • from December to April there is stable snow cover in the mountains;
  • light frost and clear weather are pleasant conditions for skiing;
  • lifts and trails meet modern European requirements;
  • It’s easy to practice basic skills on simple, flat trails;
  • the price for skiing and training is half that of the fashionable resorts in Austria or France.

The main winter holiday destination in Montenegro is resort Zabljak, located in the Durmitor mountain range. Several skiing areas have been created here: difficult trails on the steep slopes of Mount Savin Kuk and educational trails for children at its foot, simple trails on the slopes of the Maly Stutz and Javorovaca mountains.

Meanwhile, there are no fewer tourists in Zabljak in summer than in winter. The reason for this is the abundance of attractions, including the Debeli Namet glacier (glaciers are a rarity in these latitudes), the Tara River canyon - the largest canyon in Europe, glacial lakes and caves. The resort itself lies in a protected area, in the middle of a forest: vanity and noise are not inherent in it.

Another ski resort in Montenegro - Kolasin- located in the east of the country. The ski season here lasts a little longer than in Zabljak.

Kolasin is interesting for experienced skiers, as there are about 10 difficult trails. But beginners who are not afraid to go on real trails will also have something to do. There is a training area for the youngest skiers.
