Faceted glass
Few people know, but Perm is the birthplace of cut glass. In the early seventies of the nineteenth century, the first metal faceted glass was created in Perm by engineer Slavyanov. At the same time, the production of this household item began at the Sylven glass factory. Already in the middle of the twentieth century, a round rim was added in the USSR, which became the beginning of a new era of the legendary Soviet faceted glasses. So, you definitely need to bring a glass from here.

The Perm animal style is a distinctive type of artistic bronze metal-plastic art. Scientists suggest several centers of origin of this style, one of which is the Perm region. The images were based on figures of animals and birds, as well as mixed species and semi-human creatures.
If earlier products of animal style were used as religious objects, today these souvenirs can be purchased for interior decoration and as a talisman. A rich assortment is offered by souvenir shops, where you can find gifts such as keychains, books, magnets and amulets with images in the Perm animal style.
You can buy products in animal style in specialized stores or souvenir shops.

Selenite
Selenite is a stone that is the hallmark of Perm. Products made from this material attract the eye with their beauty and grace. Selenite is a type of gypsum named after the moon goddess Selene. Perm is the only region where this property is found. On the banks of the Ireni River, the stone is colored with impurities, giving it a rich palette of various colors. In Perm there is the only Selenite room in the country, where the best products from selenite are collected. The unique images and skill of the stone cutters will not leave any visitor indifferent. Selenite figures are in the public domain for residents and guests of Perm, so it won’t be difficult to buy them and bring them as a gift in one of the local souvenir shops.

Moonstone from Kungur Cave
Moonstone gets its name from its brilliance, similar to the light of the moon. Initially, it is endowed with magical properties, making it a guardian and protector from the evil eye. Jewelry made from moonstone amazes with its beauty. Perm stone cutters who mine stone in the Kungur Cave make colorful crafts and souvenirs from this material. One of the main attractions of the Perm region. It has become especially popular in the last decade (there is not even a mention of it in old guidebooks), and thanks to transport accessibility, groups of tourists visit the territory of the natural city every weekend. It was tourists who gave this place its name. Another, much older name for the Stone Town is Devil's Settlement, and the locals simply call it Turtles.

The stone city is a complex of huge stones arranged in such a way that it creates the impression of a city. And everything here seems to be real: narrow streets, wide avenues, dead ends, squares, and arched gates to the city. You can wander around such a city for hours, and you can even get lost if you come here for the first time.

The Stone Town also has its own inhabitants: Big and Small Turtles, Feathered Guard, Rat, Seal, Idols and others. Stone boulders received this name for their extraordinary resemblance to these animals and are rightfully considered symbols of the Stone City.

Legend of Stone Town

How did the Stone City appear? There is a legend that a long time ago there was a city of stunning beauty in this place. It blossomed and developed. And beautiful and kind people lived here. But the king of this city had a blind daughter, she was the only one who could not see the beauty of the place where she lived. An evil sorcerer offered the king a cure for his daughter, and the king agreed. But as soon as the princess could see, at that very moment the sorcerer turned all the houses, streets and inhabitants into stone. And all that remained for the young princess was to admire the beautiful, but stone city...

Origin of Stone Town

The legend, of course, is beautiful, but scientists believe that the so-called streets of the Stone City were formed due to the fact that a river flowed here millions of years ago. It was she who broke through the streets and arches.

The stone city is located at the top of the Rudyansky Spoy ridge (526 m). The rocks are composed of fine-grained Lower Carboniferous quartz sandstone. The rock massif is cut through by numerous deep cracks (up to 8-12 meters). Water, wind, glacier and geological epochs have worked on the appearance of the Ural Mountains, creating an extraordinary complex.

From the heights of the rocks of the Stone City, an unforgettable view of the “green ocean” of the Ural taiga opens.

Big and Small cities

The settlement is divided into Big and Small towns. Maly Kamenny Town is located 200-300 meters east of Bolshoy. It can be quite difficult to find, since the path to it is not very obvious. It consists of only four remnants, which are actually no less interesting than their older brothers, especially Leaky Stone and Proschelok.

In 2008, Stone Town received the status of a landscape natural monument of the Perm Territory.

Features of the visit

The end of August and the beginning of autumn is a time of influx of large numbers of tourists. The Stone Town is especially beautiful in autumn, during a riot of bright colors.

The city is no less beautiful in winter, when snow caps hang from the stones, and the trees growing right on the tops of the stones are covered in snow.

In summer, Stone Town is a wonderful training ground for rock climbing. Rock climbing competitions are held here every year.

In addition, in the summer, a unique theater festival for Russia, “Secrets of Mount Krestovaya,” is held in the Stone Town (along with Gubakha). The actors perform right on the rocks, in natural settings.

You can have a great time in Stone Town at any time of the year. You can stay here overnight, pitching a tent at the foot of the cliffs. But remember that there are no sources of water in Stone Town, so you need to stock up on it in advance.

Stone Town is far from the only iconic natural attraction in the vicinity of Usva station. If you have enough time, it’s also worth checking out the famous Usva Pillars on the Usva River and the Sukhoi Log caves.

It appeared 10 thousand years ago, and today it pleases with its extraordinary beauty. Many people visit this underground palace. On average, about 80 thousand tourists come here per year. They are attracted by the amazing combination of lakes, stone, ice and the connection of underground passages into one large labyrinth. Historical monuments

Travelers can visit various attractions of the Perm region. Those who love history also have a place to go. 130 km from Perm there is an ethnographic park that will leave an unforgettable impression. In its shape from a bird's eye view, the reservoir resembles an egg. About 3.68 sq. km covers its area, and its depth is approximately 5-6 meters. It is surprising that the water in it is exceptionally clear, although the shores are very low and viscous. Near Kungur there is a monastery of extraordinary beauty. For Orthodox people this is a special place. By the way, the mountain is called that because the snow that falls here lies for a long time and almost never melts. It was on this hill that the St. Nicholas Monastery was built.

Stone City (Perm)

Over the past few decades, this place has been considered a favorite place for tourists to visit. It’s easy to get here by transport, which is why people so often come in whole groups for the weekend. Stone Town is the modern name of this place. Previously, it was called differently - Devil's Settlement. This place is truly mesmerizing. There are many stones throughout the area. But they combine very harmoniously, forming compositions of streets and passages. So, it feels like you are in a real city. It seems that all this was built on purpose: all these streets, avenues, squares. The stone city is so confusing that it becomes like a labyrinth, so you need to be careful if you come here for the first time. The symbols of this place are turtles, rats, seals and others. This is due to the fact that some combinations of stones resemble images of these animals.

History of origin

Of course, there are many legends about this place. It is believed that once upon a time, instead of connecting stones, there was a beautiful city where people of unearthly kindness lived, everything was always in bloom, culture was developing. The king had a daughter who could not see anything because she was blind. Only she could not appreciate the beauty that surrounded her. An evil sorcerer came to the rescue. He suggested that the king cure the child, and he, without hesitation, agreed. The moment the heiress's sight was restored, the entire city turned to stone, so the princess had no choice but to enjoy the beauty of the stone. Of course, the legend very beautifully describes the history of creation, but scientists are in no hurry to agree with it. It is believed that a river used to flow on the site of stone houses and streets. The power of water has broken through such sculptures. As a result, it was as if a city was formed. It consists of quartz fine-grained sandstone and Lower Carboniferous. The Stone Town is located at an altitude of 526 m (the top of Rudyansky Spoy). The entire rock mass is strewn with various cracks that reach up to 12 meters in depth. The extraordinary nature of the Ural Mountains is the result of the action of natural elements. Water, glacier, wind, change of geological eras - all this contributed to the creation of a unique landscape. If you climb to the top of the Stone City, you can observe the beauty of the Ural taiga.

Elements

The entire stone complex is divided into the Big City and the Small City. The distance between them is about 200-300 meters. It is difficult to find the Small Town; there is only an inconspicuous path that leads to it. It consists of four remains, which are also amazingly beautiful. The Leaky Stone and the Hole are especially attractive.

Features of the visit

A large number of tourists coming to the Perm region visit Stone Town in late August or early autumn. This time is considered the peak influx of people. Climbers are especially frequent guests here. Every year, Stone Town welcomes a large number of athletes. Climbing competitions are often held here - after all, all the conditions have been created for them to take place. Competitions usually take place in the summer. Festivals are organized at the same time. Performances and performances take place among natural scenery. In general, you can have a good time in Stone Town all year round. Many tourists stay here overnight in tents. However, when going to Stone Town, you need to stock up on water, since there are no sources nearby. By the way, if you wish, you can also visit the caves of Sukhoi Log, which are located on the Usva River. They are no less attractive than Stone Town. Excursions to these places are usually on foot, since it is very difficult to get directly to the complex by car or bus.

How to get to this amazing place

The stone city is located approximately 200 kilometers from Perm. Getting here is very easy. First you need to get on the Perm-Kizel highway and move to the village of Usva. Then you only have to drive a short distance before the sign “Stone Town” appears. It is installed near the turn to the Yubileiny village. The main thing is not to take the necessary turn onto the dirt road. As we have already said, driving a car further will be problematic. Therefore, you need to walk the rest of the way (1 km). There is a special parking lot for cars. Of course, you can also use public transport to get to Stone Town. But this way is not very convenient to get to the desired road, since all buses/trains go to the village of Usva. You will have to change trains in Chusovoy and then walk all the way to Yubileiny - first about a kilometer from Usva along the road towards Kizel, then 5 kilometers to Yubileiny. Stone City– one of the main attractions of the Perm region. It is located 6 kilometers from the village of Usva. Another name for these rocks is Devil's Settlement. Locals usually call them Turtles.

Once upon a time, millions of years ago, the waters of the Perm Sea splashed here, which, retreating, left behind an amazing phenomenon - a spur of the Ural Ridge.

If you believe legend, then once upon a time, there was a rich city here - beautiful people lived in it, built beautiful houses and performed beautiful deeds. And everything would be fine, but the ruler of the city could not rejoice in all this - his daughter was blind and could not see what a wonderful place she lived in... One day the ruler turned to the sorcerer to ask him to restore his daughter’s sight. The sorcerer agreed, but with only one condition - the city would be turned to stone. The ruler agreed to everything, and the magician kept his word. But instead of a city, the girl saw blocks of stone...

Who built the Devil's Settlement?

Stone City- a purely natural creation. But it looks as if someone built it all on purpose. There are gates with arches, a large central square, spacious avenues and narrow alleys, and there are also dead ends. The Devil's Settlement is famous for its unusually shaped rock outcrops. Scientists suggest that such bizarre forms appeared under the influence of fast waters of a mountain river that flowed here several million years ago. And then the mountains rose higher, forming the Rudyansky Spoy ridge, and the river disappeared.

The rocks are composed of fine-grained quartz sandstone. The rock massif is cut through by numerous deep cracks (up to 8-12 meters). The width of the cracks is from 1 to 8 meters. Thanks to this, the outlines of the rocks and the cracks in them are very reminiscent of the houses and streets of an old, abandoned city.

The giant stone reserve is divided into Big AndSmall town . It has its own streets (and even an avenue - the largest crack between the rocks with sheer walls 8 meters high). In the Big City there are two highest outcrops, called, due to their resemblance to animals in shape, Big AndSmall Turtles .

Turtles of Stone Town.

The numerous streets, paths, alleys and dead ends of the city draw you in, like a huge labyrinth from which you have no desire to get out. Those who dare to climb to one of the peaks will be treated to an amazing view of the surrounding areas. It is very beautiful here on sunny autumn days, when the forest and field around are covered with gold and from the height of the rocks a person feels like a real crown of nature.

Stone Town is popular with rock climbers - competitions are held here annually between Emergency Situations Ministry employees and local speleologists. The number of tourists visiting this amazing monument is constantly growing - and there is a simple explanation for this, hidden in the incredible beauty and uniqueness of this amazing place.

The Urals are rich in beautiful and interesting places. These are ancient cities and monuments created by nature itself. One of them has been known to tourists relatively recently - since 2000. One of the names of this place is Stone Town.

History of Stone Town

In 1879, the small village of Usva on the same name began its chronicle. Brave, strong people, ore explorers, and miners lived in it. The forest helped to survive in these harsh places, providing herbs, berries, and mushrooms. There was only one place that local residents did not go to. There, among the taiga, strangely shaped stone cliffs rose. Like narrow streets, deep cracks cut the rocks. The locals considered this place unclean, and they gave it the name “Devil’s Settlement.”
In the 1950s, cheerful youth came to the taiga to develop reserves of coal, potassium salts, and other riches of the Urals. She was not afraid of God or the devil. And she gave her name to the stones - after the largest and most noticeable remains - “Turtles”.

Stone Town in the Perm Territory is one of the most visited tourist sites in the Urals

And only in the 21st century did tourists begin to call these stones the Stone City. Under this name, the territory received the status of a natural monument of regional significance. What is it?
There is a name - sing. This means a long mountain range covered in forest, parallel to the main ridge. The stone city is located at the southern end of the Rudyansky ridge. Rudyansky - from a mining ore deposit. The rocks are made of durable, fine-grained sandstone. From 350 to 300 million years ago, a river flowed into the Permian Sea and cut convenient paths in the rocks. The height of the “houses” is up to 12 meters, and the height above sea level is about half a kilometer.

Various rocky outcrops resemble different animals, which is why they are named Big Turtle, Winged Guardian, Rat, Seal. The city has its own watchman - Idol. A narrow arch leads into the city - the Gate. The view from the remains is wonderful! The Ural taiga is amazingly beautiful and diverse. But even half a kilometer is already a height. And at any moment the weather can hide the miracles with a curtain of thick fog.

The Legend of the Devil and the Rooster

Once upon a time there lived a rich boyar in a village, and he had a beautiful daughter. In her youth they gave her a small cockerel. They grew up together, the cockerel slept next to the girl’s bed and woke her up in the morning. The time has come to choose a groom. And the devil himself came to the boyar to woo him. The boyar became afraid - he couldn’t refuse, and it was a pity to give his daughter to the unclean. I decided to set an impossible task - one night before the first rooster crow, to build stone chambers of indescribable beauty... The devil whistled - and huge stones flew and began to form into houses themselves. And the devil would have time to build a chamber, but the girl would see it and start shaking the rooster and tugging at its feathers. The rooster could not stand this attitude and crowed in the middle of the night. The devil disappeared into the underground kingdom, and the unfinished city remained in the taiga.
