Burgas - Istanbul: how to get there, what transport? This question inevitably arises before every traveler who, while vacationing on the Bulgarian coast, decides to go to Turkey, both for informational purposes and for shopping.

Google Maps/google.ru

There are few traditional options for such a trip - bus or car. IN last years another way of travel was added to them. The KiwiTaxi company offers its services to everyone who wants to travel from Burgas to Turkey and return back. Of course, you can also leave by “civilized hitchhiking,” that is, by finding fellow travelers and drivers willing to give you a ride.

Buses

Buses from Burgas depart from the city bus station at least three times a day, but at the height of the tourist season and when there is no ferry service, there are many more flights.

The evening flight is the most popular as it brings passengers to Istanbul early in the morning, spending 8 hours on the road overnight. A morning flight covers the distance from Burgas to Istanbul in 6 hours. The daytime travel takes 6.5-7 hours.

Passenger transportation between cities is carried out by:

  1. “Nisikli” – website nisikli.com.tr.
  2. “Metro Turizm” – websites bg, www.metroturizm.com.tr.

Both portals are quite specific; navigation for Russians, as a rule, does not immediately become clear. Therefore, when planning a trip by bus, it makes sense to use the portal, which provides all the relevant information that travelers need.

It is also convenient to use this portal because it contains information from the BlaBlaCar service. Paradoxically, offers from drivers who are ready to take travel companions on a trip are included in the interactive schedule. This significantly saves time when searching for a suitable travel option. Of course, you can book tickets online on the portal.

The price of a bus trip starts from 19.37 euros, the same price as a ticket for the night bus of the Metro Turizm company, leaving Burgas at 23:30. The most expensive ticket costs 28.03 euros - for an evening flight from the Nisikli company, departing at 19:00. Morning and afternoon trips usually cost 23-26 euros.

All buses traveling on the Burgas-Istanbul route leave from the city bus station. It is located at Queen Joanna Square, building 1. The station's website is burgasbus.info. Navigation on this resource is not entirely convenient. However, Burgas is not a very big city and while relaxing in it, you can simply walk to the station and find out on the spot everything you need to know when planning a trip - the exact departure time on a specific date and the cost of tickets.

If you wish, you can travel not by direct flight, but through Varna. But this doesn't make much sense. Traveling by public buses to Varna and traveling to Istanbul from there will generally take about 10 hours, and will save only 2-3 euros.

In Istanbul, all buses from Bulgaria take passengers to the Esenler bus station (Buyuk Otogari). This is the largest and most modern bus station imaginable. It has 324 operating vehicle platforms and a total area of 242,000 m². This is quite comparable to the average European airport.

The station is divided into 3 main zones, but you can still get lost on its territory, especially on your first visit. This “kingdom of buses” is located in the European district of the Turkish city, at the address Altıntepsi Mahallesi, Esenler Otogarı Otoparkı, 34035 Bayrampaşa/İstanbul.

Arriving at the Istanbul station, you need to spend some time getting your bearings. This will be useful when searching for the right platform when boarding the return bus to Bulgaria, because, as a rule, travelers arrive at the station without any time to spare.

Ferries and trains

The ferry service between the cities was opened in 2007 and has become the most popular option for getting to Turkey from the Bulgarian coast. In addition to large ferries, small ships also plied from Istanbul to Burgas, for which there were literally queues for tickets.

However, a few years ago the navigation was closed for reasons that are not entirely clear. Therefore, there is no point in wasting time looking for water transport. But if you want to get to the Turkish shores by water, then you can try to negotiate with the owners of private ships. Of course, how much such a voyage might cost will only become known when its possibility is discussed with the shipowner.

The railway line connecting the Bulgarian coast with Turkey is also closed. The trains stopped carrying passengers in 2010. The reason is repair work and modernization. However, when independent travel By car, curious and attentive tourists notice railway sections overgrown with grass and a complete absence of signs of any road work.

Cars and transfers

Renting a car in Burgas at the height of the tourist season costs 73-105 euros for three days. Finding a car is not difficult using a service or similar. You do not need to buy any stickers, as is customary in many European countries, to travel to Turkey. You need to drive using a navigator, however, there is no way to get lost without it.

All signs on the territory of Bulgaria resemble Russian ones and are intuitively clear. The road itself will delight fans of socialist “unfinished construction”; abandoned construction sites will appear along the route here and there, as if they have emerged from the 80s.

The duration of the trip by car is 4-5 hours. You can also get to Istanbul by taxi. Transfers from the KiwiTaxi company are in greatest demand. The average cost of travel is 210 euros. You can order a car yourself on the carrier’s portal.

In addition to KiwiTaxi, transfers to Istanbul are provided by the following companies:

  • "Chart-Taxi";
  • "Super-Transfer";
  • "Taxi-Burgas".

However, these carriers have higher service costs, and the companies have fewer vehicles. Therefore, there is no point in contacting them.

Traveling with drivers who are willing to take travel companions is the most economical travel option. Offers from drivers, which can be found on the portal www.blablacar.ru, start from 4 euros per person. Of course, you won’t be able to take luggage, but usually it’s not needed if the trip is limited to one day.

My friend and I try to spend our summer holidays somewhere abroad. Of course we don't have a lot of money to fly to Spain. We, as a rule, choose more budget destinations - Turkey, Egypt, Bulgaria, Greece.
Last summer we managed to buy a last minute trip to Turkey, to one of the famous resorts. We spent the last two days of our Turkish trip in Istanbul. You probably think that it is dangerous for two girls there, but I hasten to please you, if you behave modestly and dress appropriately, then no one will even look in your direction)).
So, after ten days in Turkey, we decided to go to, because our friends were vacationing there. We thought it would be cool to lie on the Bulgarian beaches for a few more days and then return home from there.
We planned the route from Istanbul ourselves. I’ll tell you further how to get from one city to another.

Automobile

One of the best ways to get from Istanbul to Burgas is by car. This type of transport can take you four to five hours. But this time is approximate, because you will have to cross the border.
You can, of course, rent a car through, but only if you return it in Istanbul or another Turkish city. But does this make sense? Think for yourself.
The roads in both countries are a minus five, because there are some roads that have one lane in each direction (narrow).

There are several toll highways in Turkey. A car sticker is purchased when entering toll areas (1.3 euros for the sticker itself, 7.7 euros for a credit for payment). When entering a payment zone, you should slow down to 30 km/h so that the system can calculate the correct amount.
In Bulgaria, only drivers of cars with foreign registration pay; you need to buy a vignette for 8 euros.

Bus

Concerning public transport, then you can get from Istanbul to Burgas by bus.

Direct flights from one city to another are provided by the following companies:

  • BurgasBus.
  • Union Ivkoni.
  • Nisikli.

You can view the detailed schedule of shipments of such transport on the websites of these companies.

You can take the bus to Burgas at the central bus station in Istanbul.

By the way, it is very large, so be careful and arrive at least forty minutes before your bus departs.

You will spend about seven hours on the road.

Where to buy tickets

Bus passes can be purchased at the Istanbul bus station ticket office.

Fare

A bus ticket to Burgas will cost you from 21 euros.

Other options

When my friend and I were planning our route from Istanbul to Istanbul, we considered the option of air travel. After all, the distance between the cities is more than three hundred kilometers, and this is a lot, so the option of air transport seemed to me quite relevant. But there is one huge drawback - the nearest airport accepting flights from Turkey is in Varna. That is, you need to fly from Istanbul first to Varna, and from there you need to get to Burgas by bus. The time is more than four hours. Plus, these transfers will be very tiring. Therefore, this option is irrelevant in this case.
There is no direct train connection between the cities, so you cannot take the train either.

Passing the border

Do not forget the fact that to enter Bulgaria you must first obtain a national Bulgarian visa. To do this, you should contact the Bulgarian Consulate in your country before traveling. By the way, you can enter with a valid Schengen visa from any country, if it has already been issued.
Therefore, as you guessed, you will have to go through passport and customs control. This can take half an hour or several hours, depending on the queues at the border.

Bottom line

My friend and I decided not to fool ourselves and went by direct bus. This transport was a solid four - soft seats, the TV worked (although the films were shown in Turkish :)). The only negative was the lack of a toilet; it was simply closed, but drivers sometimes made sanitary stops near gas stations.

2 years ago, at the end of summer, we went to Istanbul from Sozopol. We stayed at the ERESIN CROWN hotel (next to the Blue Mosque), overlooking the Bosphorus. The highways to Istanbul are excellent. On the territory of Bulgaria, in the area of the Turkish border, there are continuous gullies... There were no queues at the border. 5 hours was enough for the road But they got lost already before the Bosporus. In front of Istanbul itself there are many interchanges, very heavy traffic, even for us Muscovites. Everyone drives according to the “concepts”. There was enough extreme sports. Therefore, in recent years we have been driving to Greece, to the islands. The roads in Greece are gorgeous, and even towards the Greek border, the Bulgarians completed the construction of the highway.

Dear forum users! I ask for help in calculating the possibility of traveling by car from Burgas to Istanbul. How long does it actually take and what is the quality of the road? Thank you in advance.

Hello!
The trip to Istanbul lasts between 4 and half and 6 hours
it depends on what speed you will go and what time you will go
plan so that you don’t get to the border at this time:
from 5 to 8 and from 19 to 20:30
this is the worst time at the border
Also plan so that you don’t arrive in Istanbul between 7 and 9:30 and don’t leave between 17 and 20
this is the peak and there are continuous traffic jams
if you follow this and work normally at the border at a speed of -100 -140 you will be in Istanbul in 4 and a half hours
accordingly, everything else depends on the border and everything that is written above
To the Bulgarian border the road is generally not bad, there are bad sections about 20% on the Turkish side the road is good
distance 360-390 km
I organize individual tours in Bulgaria and Istanbul, so if you are interested in routes, please contact me
I try to help
Best regards, Konstantin

Does anyone by any chance know that Metro's summer schedule is different from its winter schedule, right? We expected them to travel from Istanbul to Burgas at 21:00 (night crossing), but now I see that for February there is a flight at 21:00, but for May all three flights are in the morning (the last one at 10 am): (damn... I don’t want to lose a day + money for a night in a hotel. And in the evening it was really convenient and I saved money on the hotel and had a whole day free.
Nisikli will have to go? they have a flight at 20:00...

but for May all three flights are morning

Well why? There is also a night one. I looked at Silistra-Istanbul on May 17th. Departure from Silistra at 19 o'clock, in Burgas at 23-15, in Istanbul at 6-45 on the morning of May 18. I think that the same schedule will be issued for other days in May.

On the contrary, I need a night flight from Istanbul to Burgas. For example, on April 28 there is a flight at 21:00, but on May 19 there are only three flights at 09:00, 09:45 and 10:00... And on May 17, too, only these three flights. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place? but it seems like here is the official website https://online.metroturizm.com.tr
The schedule for June is generally unavailable (too early, probably)

In fact, the site shows that the "metro" does not have evening departures from Istanbul to Burgas, but there are to Sofia and there are other carriers to Plovdiv and Burgas.

but in April there are evening flights on Metro? Right? that is, the disappearance is then related to the new summer schedule? do not know?
flights to Sofia
other carriers Do you mean Nisikli? Do you know their buses are much worse?
I wanted to take the Metro, but I was so sorry for the whole day and the cost of an extra night in a hotel...

Lonika, ask on the Turkish branch, there are experts on Istanbul there and you will find the answer faster. Boris is the same “expert” as you.
When I was planning a flight to Stmb, I looked at the metro schedule to Varna, and there are evening and morning flights, no daytime ones, I’m sure it’s the same for Burgas, especially since the bus goes through it.

Really, Lonika, I’m just preparing a trip to Bulgaria, but this does not stop me from searching for the best options, both for accommodation and excursions. Here is the address of the metro carrier: [email protected], you can ask them about the evening departure, it won’t be any worse, and it’s always more profitable to receive information first-hand. I can also say that there is a travel agency “Astrela”, they have a departure from Istanbul in the evening. Costs 63-50 to Turkey and 55 levs back. Departure from Istanbul is at 19 pm, however, you need to look at their website, as there are some conditions for sales. There is nothing stopping you from buying a return ticket from one company and a return ticket from another. Just in case, I give a link to Astrela: http://astrela.com/russian/transport/bilety_avtobus_bulgaria_istanbul.htm
It doesn’t hurt to listen to the advice of a specialist either. Dorotti and go look for an answer to your question in the Turkish direction.
