All about car tuning

2-storey railway carriages inside. Which is better - the first or second floor in a double-decker Russian Railways car

At the moment, only two double-decker trains run: No. 104, Moscow - Adler, and No. 5, Moscow - St. Petersburg. The cars of both trains were built on a distinctive feature of these modern trains is much larger than conventional capacity.

Fare

Traveling in each of these two-story trains will cost a little less than in a regular train. However, only if the ticket is purchased in advance. The fewer empty seats left in the carriages, the more expensive they are. A double-decker ticket - Adler, bought in advance, will cost about 4,000 rubles. A train ticket to St. Petersburg costs about 1300 rubles. Sale for the flight starts as usual - 45 days before departure.

Both double-decker trains belong to the branded class. they don't have. In addition to compartments, there are several SVs. The capacity of one carriage is 64 seats. Basically, this was the reason for the reduction in the cost of travel on a double-decker train. For comparison: there are usually only 39 seats in a carriage.

Composition features

From the usual double-decker train, it differs primarily in the height of the cars. The train is driven by a fifth-generation locomotive EP-20, capable of operating both on AC and on High cars. They are distinguished by a modern appearance. Each has the Russian Railways branded abbreviation, written in red letters, clearly visible against a gray background.

The restaurant of the Adler composition is designed for 60 seats, St. Petersburg - for 48. Two waitresses serve visitors. The restaurant is located on the second floor of the train. As in conventional trains, food is also sold several times a day in the corridors. In addition to the restaurant, the double-decker train also has a bar for eight people. It is located on the first floor. Next to it is the kitchen. It is connected to the restaurant by two elevators. One of them is designed for lifting ready-made dishes up, and the second for lowering dirty dishes down.

Disabled facilities

The conveniences of these two new trains include the fact that they have cars specially designed for people with disabilities. Their distinctive features are wide corridors. Passengers can move on them right in the stroller. At the entrance to the car there is a special lift. Thus, a disabled person can get into the double-decker train itself (its photo can be seen on the page) without getting up from the carriage.

First floor

Most of the passengers who have already traveled on these trains speak of them as quite comfortable. The carriages are a little cramped than usual, but quite comfortable. The height of the corridors is a little over two meters. The compartment doors can be closed/opened using a magnetic card. Traveling on the train is completely safe - the passages between the cars are sealed.

Two-story - the composition, judging by the reviews, among other things, is also very clean. Smoking in vestibules is prohibited. Each carriage has three dry closets. You can use them, including at stops. There are also containers for sorting garbage on the train.

Second floor

A fairly well-equipped staircase leads up from the first floor. Its steps are illuminated, but you can hold on to comfortable handrails. There is a garbage container on the interfloor platform. A survey spherical mirror is suspended above it. Passengers descending the stairs can see those ascending, and vice versa.

The second floor of the train is very similar to the first. The only difference is that the ceiling here is slightly sloping, and the windows are very low - at the level of an adult's waist.

train compartment

Passengers who have bought a ticket for the branded train Moscow - Adler double-decker or to St. Petersburg can get settled very well. The compartments in these trains are quite comfortable and well equipped. Each of them is designed for four people. The length of the shelves in the compartment is slightly less than in the cars of ordinary trains. However, even tall people can accommodate them more or less comfortably. The only thing - to sit in full growth on the second shelf will not work. The ceilings on both floors are quite low. The third luggage racks in compartments and CBs are not provided. Suitcases can only be placed under the lower ones.

Lighting in the compartment is LED, and sockets for charging phones and laptops are built into the wall next to each of the two lower shelves. Available in double-decker trains and free Wi-Fi. Communication is provided by Megafon. Among other things, each compartment has a separate radio station. Increases the comfort of the trip and the presence of a climate control system. However, unfortunately, it is impossible to regulate the temperature in each individual compartment.

The windows throughout the train are equipped with modern soundproof double-glazed windows. SV-cars have liquid crystal monitors designed to view video programs.

Maintenance

When boarding a double-decker train, as in any branded train, passengers are given bed linen. The ticket price also includes a sanitary kit, newspapers, boiled water during the entire journey and dry rations. The latter includes bottled water, jam, cracker, chicken pate, mustard, mayonnaise, waffles. Just like on ordinary trains, tea is served periodically. The hygiene package includes a spoon, fork, knife, toothpick, paper napkin.

Both double-decker trains are accompanied by police officers. In order for them to monitor the order in the cars, video cameras are placed in the corridors.

Double-decker train: reviews

As already mentioned, the opinion of passengers about these trains was good. First of all, the low cost of travel and the absence of the standard inconveniences of Russian trains are noted: closed toilets at stops, heat or cold in the cars, idle boilers, etc.

The disadvantages of these trains, passengers include, first of all, some tightness of the cars. Clean and comfortable toilets are also something the double-decker train boasts. Reviews in this regard about him are also very good. However, the toilets are sometimes smoky. Smoking in the vestibules of both trains is prohibited. Therefore, some passengers do it in the toilet. Causes certain inconvenience and the absence of third shelves. If there is too much luggage, there will simply be nowhere to put it.

Lineup schedule

A double-decker train moves a little faster than usual. The average speed is about 160 km/h. The schedule is designed in such a way that the majority of passengers are on the road in the shortest time. From Moscow to Adler on a double-decker train can be reached in about 25 hours. To St. Petersburg - 8 hours.

As you can see, a double-decker train (photos confirm this) can be assessed as quite convenient and comfortable. The ticket is inexpensive, and the train moves very quickly. So you can even put up with some tightness.

The first double-deck car was made by the masters of the Tver Carriage Works in 1905. And 108 years later, in November 2013, a double-decker car from the same plant set off on a journey across Russia. On what routes do double-decker trains now travel in Russia, what is special about them and what services can be obtained in carriages that are still unusual for us?

Double-decker trains in Russia: where and when did they appear?

The idea of a double-decker train dominated the minds of engineers back in the century before last. The result of the development was a double-decker car produced at the Tver Carriage Works in 1905. It was intended for long-distance transportation, and the first floor was reserved for animals and livestock.

In the USSR, several attempts were made to launch double-decker trains. At first they tried to buy cars made in the GDR. They ran on some suburban routes. Then there were attempts to create their own versions. The Yegorov Leningrad plant produced a prototype, in which the first floor was for sleeping, and the second floor was for sitting. Things did not go further than suburban and demonstration launches.

Since 2007, Russian Railways has been working on a project for double-decker trains. We were looking for technologies, forming an order. The same Tver Carriage Works undertook to manufacture double-decker cars; in 2013, the first double-decker car was handed over to the customer. And in the same year, the two-story train moved along the route Moscow - Adler.

Now trains with double-deck cars run on 10 routes. Basically, branded fast trains are double-decker.

  • No. 642/641, Rostov-on-Don - Adler;
  • No. 003/004, Kislovodsk - Moscow;
  • No. 23/24, Moscow - Kazan;
  • No. 5/6, Moscow - St. Petersburg;
  • No. 7/8, Moscow - St. Petersburg;
  • No. 103/104 Moscow - Adler;
  • No. 738/737 Moscow - Voronezh;
  • No. 49/50 Moscow - Samara;
  • No. 35/36 St. Petersburg - Adler;
  • No. 740Zh / 739Zh Moscow - Voronezh.

According to the program for the modernization of the Russian Railways rolling stock, the number of double-decker trains on the routes is planned to be gradually increased.

Features of double-decker trains

In contrast to the experiments of the last century, full-fledged sleeping compartments in modern cars are located on both floors. Passengers get to the second one by ordinary stairs. They are not too wide, but it is easy to carry a “picture, basket, cardboard” over them.

Many pessimists expected that the compartments on the second floor would have low ceilings, their fears were not justified. The ceiling height is standard and comfortable for passengers on both floors.

Between the cars there are comfortable transitions - "accordions". The doors between them open automatically when a button is pressed. The rattling joints between the cars with the plates moving apart underfoot are a thing of the past.

Passengers note the comfort, safety and good equipment of double-decker carriages. Compartments are locked with an individual magnetic key, which is given to the passenger at the time of boarding. The car has double-glazed windows, energy-saving lamps. Installed air conditioning and heating systems. The surveillance, control and monitoring system transmits data in the conductor's compartment. Passengers can be calm for their safety. Also in the compartment there are two sockets for connecting razors and mobile devices.

Comfort is in the details. Remember the radio in the old cars, which only the conductor could turn off? In the compartment of a double-decker train, you decide when to listen to music and when not.

Advantages of double-deck cars

What other advantages can be noted in double-decker cars, in addition to modern design coupe and a good level of comfort?

  • The number of passengers carried is higher than usual. In the new trains, there are 64 beds in the car, in the usual 36 people are placed in the compartment car.
  • The fare in a double-decker train is lower than in a regular compartment because there are more passengers. Compared to fast branded cars of the same class, tickets are 20-25% cheaper.
  • Environmental friendliness. The cars are equipped with energy-saving lamps and heating systems, dry closets, special containers for separate waste collection.

When buying tickets for a branded double-decker train, there is a dynamic pricing program. The earlier you buy tickets, the cheaper they are. As the date of the trip approaches, the price may increase depending on the demand and workload of the railway direction.

When ordering tickets for a double-decker train, please note that there is a separate layout for each floor.

Services on double-decker trains

For the price of the ticket you will be provided with:

  • bed sheets;
  • the top seat in the compartment and all seats in the NE will already be covered;
  • drinking water;
  • food (once);
  • sanitary and hygienic accessories;
  • WiFi;
  • in luxury cars - plasma screens for watching movies or news channels.

There is a dining car in branded double-decker trains. On the ground floor there is a bar and a kitchen, on the second floor there is a restaurant hall.

The carriages have compartments equipped with a lift and wide shelves for passengers with limited mobility.

The good news for home-cooked food lovers and parents of young children is that passenger cars microwaves installed. You can make a hot sandwich or warm up food taken from home.

Double-decker trains now link the south and center of Russia. There are routes from Moscow to Kazan, Samara, Voronezh. It is planned that in the future on most routes long distance double-decker carriages will completely replace reserved seats.

The other day I was traveling from Moscow to Kazan in a new double-decker train. Russian Railways has several such trains. They mainly run between Moscow and Sochi, but they also go to Kazan. It was interesting to ride. By the way, the price for it is less than in a regular coupe.

So, in this composition there is no reserved seat. Only coupe and St. Since the carriages are double-decker, it is logical that there are more passenger seats in one carriage than in a regular, single-decker carriage. Accordingly, the price should be lower. We will see.

1. Russian Railways now has a new pricing system. If, for example, you watch tickets for this train, then on Friday it will be more expensive than on Monday or another weekday:

2. This is how the diagram of a double-decker car looks like on the Russian Railways website. You can choose a seat when buying a ticket:

3. On the platform of the Kazan station, the train looks, to put it mildly, unusual. In aviation terms, this squad wears the Olympic livery. They launched it for the Olympic Games in Sochi:

4. We pass into the car:

5. Working space of conductors. Here, as in the old carriages, there is boiling water. There is no boiling water on the second floor:

6.

7. At the entrance on the left there is a staircase to the second floor, exactly the same on the other side of the car. Just below the first floor compartment.

8. Since I had a ticket on the second floor, the photos will be mostly from there. The first one is exactly the same. We rise to the second floor. A mirror has been installed so as not to collide with other passengers. Trash box under the mirror:

9. Second floor corridor. There are no sockets in the corridor, because there are two of them in each compartment:

10. Coupes are opened with magnetic cards. For some reason, these cards were not handed out in our car. Perhaps because the travel time to Kazan is only 1 night:

11. I was driving in the last compartment on the second floor. One:

12. The coupe is a little cramped. This is felt due to the fact that the distance between the top shelf and the ceiling is almost the same as in the reserved seat between the passenger shelf and the luggage shelf. Well, maybe a little more:

13. For that, everything below is like in a regular compartment. The same volume. Not at all cramped. Sockets at each lower shelf, very convenient:

14. Probably the biggest disadvantage of double-decker cars is the lack of an upper luggage rack as in a regular compartment. There simply wasn't enough space. All luggage must be placed under the lower shelves:

15. There is also not much space below. There was also some kind of metal casing in my compartment. I suspect that not all compartments have it, and accordingly there is more space for luggage:

16. One of the pluses is the mattress recessed into the shelf. Now you do not need to constantly adjust your bed, which treacherously rolled down from its place in the old compartments:

17. There is a mirror on the inside of the door, as before:

18. Electronic lock. There is also a regular, mechanical one:

19. Let's go down to the first floor and see the toilets:

20. Bio toilets. Does not close at stations. There are 3 of them per car and are located in only one place. They are located at the opposite end of the car from the conductor.

21. Actually the toilet itself. Everything is clean, while new and nice:

The topic of model 61-4492 cars was touched upon in passing - as a continuation of the line of domestic double-decker rolling stock, designed for speeds up to 160 km/h.
And here, meet!

And more recently, it was tested on the Russian Railways network -

As we can see, the size of the second floor in the seats is somewhat smaller than in the double-decker sleeping cars. Due to the fact that there was no longer a need to place second shelves in the compartment of the upper floors, it became possible to make the sides more gentle, more sloping towards the roof. That gave the cars some elegance. It is already difficult to call them an armored train.

The Russian Railways website says: Travel time will be 6 hours 35 minutes.
Departure from Moscow at 15:20, arrival in Voronezh at 21:55.
Departure from Voronezh at 7:35, arrival in Moscow at 14:10.
The train follows with stops: Ryazan, Michurinsk, Gryazi Voronezh.

I can’t say how convenient the schedule is, because I don’t know the opinion of the residents of Voronezh and Moscow, who make frequent trips along this route. Of course, you can’t please everyone 100%, but it’s clear that there will be a passenger flow on it.

The train consists of 7 to 11 cars with seats:
1st class carriages (60 seats), including a double VIP compartment;
carriages of the 2nd class (102 seats).

The color of the cars is somewhat different from the standard corporate scheme of Russian Railways -

The same burgundy and gray colors, but in a slightly different geometric framework.

The layout of the salons of the floors also looks convincingly rational -

Due to the presence on the territory of our country and neighboring CIS countries of a large number of high platforms (aprons), in the constructive solution of Russian double-decker cars, the floor mark of the working vestibule is kept at a standard height for us -

In some models of foreign two-story buildings, the working vestibule is located in the center of the car. Passengers enter directly to the floor level of the first floor. From where they have to climb to the second floor on a ladder with a large number of steps than if, entering the car, they immediately got to the level of the interfloor space.
Since we have a dime a dozen high platforms on the routes of double-decker trains, Russian carriages are more convenient in this regard. For those on the first floor - go down a little, for those on the second - go up a little.

Fare:
1 class - from 1685 rubles. (with meals) per seat;
Grade 2 - from 1135 rub. for a place.

As well as the travel time, the price of the trip is also quite acceptable.

I looked at tomorrow, on July 06, trains on the route "Moscow - Voronezh". Everyone can do this on the same Russian Railways website -

Study for yourself, decide for yourself how much the new train will be in demand and useful. The cost and time of travel on other trains are clearly visible there.
These are not all options, just the top. But that's enough -

By the way, pay attention, the hero of our story is on the schedule for tomorrow. Or some test flight. Or pre-brought.

-Internet access using Wi-Fi technology;
- air conditioning and heating system;
- environmentally friendly toilet complexes;
-shelves for luggage storage;
- comfortable stairs with handrails;
- energy-saving LED lamps;
- hermetic inter-car crossings;
- LED information boards;
-coolers with drinking water.

For a fee, coffee, tea and confectionery products, printed publications, souvenirs and other goods are provided.

Security
Provide employees of security organizations or transport police. The operation of the car equipment is controlled by a satellite security and communication monitoring system. All carriages are equipped with fire alarms and video surveillance devices.

Seat numbering
In double-deck carriages with seats, the following numbering of seats is used.
1st class car:
on the ground floor 29 seats (from 1 to 43), VIP compartment (No. 133,134);
on the second floor there are 29 beds (from 81 to 121).
2nd class car:
on the ground floor 50 seats (from 1 to 50);
on the second floor there are 52 seats (from 81 to 132).

Characteristics of the VIP compartment in 1st class carriages
The compartment has sliding doors and is equipped with the following amenities:
two places for extra comfort seating (sofa);
luggage rack;
individual retractable transformable tables;
main and local lighting lamp;
TV with video content;
explorer call button.

Here it is, a nest for a pervert -

Who missed the post, you can first familiarize yourself with, and I will now tell you how I had to ride on the second floor of the Moscow-Adler train.

Actually, I got to the second floor by accident. The train that goes from Stary Oskol to Adler takes 36 hours, and if you spend an hour to get to Voronezh, then from there Adler will be at your service in 16 hours. Here's the math.

We didn't have time to buy tickets for the first floor. I had to figure out how to ride the train on the second floor.

Photo 2.

Tickets right away. The bottom place cost 7,000 , the top 5,000 , and the children's 3600 approximately.

Well, actually, most likely, everything that I liked is actually the usual requirements for passenger traffic. It's just that sometimes things get worse for a variety of reasons.

So, we sat down in the evening and they brought us a hot supper. In other trains, I remember there was only dry rations.

In general, at first glance, there were as many seats on the second floor as in a regular train. Convenient step to the second shelf.

Photo 3.

I expected that there would be some kind of narrow and uncomfortable staircase between the floors. Worried for nothing. Quite comfortable. I ran back and forth many times. I went up with bags, there is enough space.

Photo 4.

The only thing you remember on the second floor is that you are not on an ordinary train - it is low. To see what is there on the street - you have to literally get on your knees.

Photo 5.

Once again the stairs.

Photo 6.

Mirror, for "adjustment of movement". Not to try to go down when the crowd is already rising.

Photo 7.

In the coupe, finally, there are modern personal lights. And an outlet!!! OOOO!!! It's a damn thrill. We have the only FIRM train from Stary Oskol to Moscow, so in the compartment for a lot of money there are sockets only in the corridors. And here is a personal one in your bed.

Hello cinema and laptop.

Photo 8.

Such a big and beautiful box, but inside there are only plastic cutlery and a cupcake :-(, well, and also a lollipop.

Photo 9.

The first floor of the car goes straight ahead, and the second floor goes to the left.

Photo 11.

From the side it seems the car is so high that it will not fit anywhere in the tunnels and under the rungs. Creeps through.

It's amazing why then all the other cars are so low :-)

Photo 12.

Photo 13.

Conductor's hutch.

Photo 14.

In this place, in ordinary carriages, there is usually a "samovar" with hot water.

Photo 15.

Conductor, in person.

Photo 16.

This is how a mirror works.

Photo 17.

112 seats - well! It is not clear why the cost of tickets is more expensive than in an ordinary compartment car. After all, they promised that due to the large capacity of double-decker cars, the prices there would be lower, especially on the second floor.

Photo 19.

I don't know what it is, but it sounds very impressive.

Photo 20.

And here is an interesting feature. Usually, garbage is piled up in mountains in ordinary wagons, but here it’s just sorting. I don't even have that at home.

Photo 21.

Photo 22.

Step lighting.

Photo 23.

Well, if we have rockets consecrated, everyone has icons in cars, and guards in offices and apartments, then why shouldn’t this be in the railway car.

Photo 24.

Photo 25.

But still there is one drawback. On the second shelf of the second floor, there is still less space than in ordinary cars. First, as you noticed, there are no shelves for things. And sometimes they really helped out.

Photo 26.

Secondly, now it is only convenient to lie on the second shelf. It’s already impossible to watch something while sitting because of the beveled edges of the roof of the car

Photo 27.

The first time I used free wi-fi on a train. Cool! Is this satellite internet? Because there was no cellular connection, and the Internet worked:

Photo 28.

And the speed, in general, you will agree is normal for free Internet on the road.

Once again, an uncomfortable second shelf.

Photo 29.

The whole car is crammed with fire alarms, alarms and warning speakers.

Photo 31.

So I also noticed this in ordinary cups, but I still can’t find the time to find out more about it. What are these cards with which you can open and close the compartment? Why are they never issued to passengers.

Photo 32.

Has anyone ever used them? If not, then this whole system in each car is essentially wasted and wasted.

Photo 33.

Well, we are already in Adler. Hello everyone from the shores of the Black Sea.

Photo 34.
