Bed and Breakfast (B&B) literally translates from English as bed and breakfast, but in essence it is the provision of temporary housing for students, business travelers, tourists and other visitors.

That is, this is one of the types of hotel business, which, in turn, is divided into several categories.

  • Homestay. Most often, owners want to rent out one or more rooms in their house or apartment in order to receive additional income. They usually don't want too much publicity or advertising. If you have friends who are not averse to “letting in tenants,” you can start organizing a search for clients. In this case, you advertise, communicate with people and receive commissions as an intermediary. Running a B&B with a homestay can bring in a good income, especially if you expand your "accommodation base" and create a reservation system.
  • Private boarding house. If the house is privately owned, the owner and his family live in it, and there are also 4-5 (but not more than 6) guest rooms, then we can talk about a private boarding house. Here it is already necessary to obtain documents of an individual entrepreneur. Such a boarding house, as a rule, has a sign, and for the owners it is a job and their main income.
  • Private hotel - B&B Inn. This category includes private houses with host accommodation, which have 7-10 or more guest rooms. In this case, it is necessary to comply with all laws and government regulations, compliance with regulated fire safety and sanitary control rules. Preferably - a lot of advertising and a beautiful sign. Breakfast in private hotels is usually offered to residents as part of the room price. There is a “family” atmosphere of the house here, but the rooms are located “autonomously” from the owners. Such B&B Inns can be opened in the historical center of the city, near clinics or universities (depending on who you identify as your potential clients). Clients can be tourists, businessmen, couples, friends and families of students and so on.

What is required for organization

It is clear that you need to purchase everything you need for normal living (bed linen, towels, detergents, household appliances, tables, chairs, bedside tables, cutlery, etc.). But, besides this, if you are going to convert a residential premises into a B&B, carefully look around to see if any repairs or even reconstruction of the premises, interior and exterior are needed.

Bed and Breakfast hotels are an ideal option for those who prefer not to spend extra money on a room in a regular hotel, but still expect normal conditions of comfort and service.

The Bed and Breakfast (bed and breakfast) or B&B system is very popular in many countries of Western Europe.

This is actually one of the most common types of temporary residence in France.

To refer to Bed and Breakfast hotels, the abbreviation B&B is mainly used. B&B hotels are small, family-run hotels that offer a full level of service plus home-cooked meals.

The UK is considered the founder of the Bed and Breakfast system. It was the representatives of Foggy Albion who were the first to come up with a name for a simple and convenient way of living while traveling. However, after several decades, a new type of temporary residence migrated to the entire European continent, including France.

In Bed and Breakfast hotels, the guest always has the opportunity to count on a comfortable minimum of services. These services actually consist of a bed and breakfast. B&B hotels, as a rule, have a standard classification - from 2 to 5 stars. However, it should be taken into account that most hotels in this system do not have any status at all, but at the same time they do not at all represent homeless shelters.

The Bed and Breakfast system is a type of temporary accommodation in city or country private houses, where breakfast is included in the price. Accommodation in a B&B outside the city costs about 30 euros per person per night and about 40 euros for half board. “Room for the night” - an ordinary bedroom without a TV and with a shared toilet will cost 20 euros. But prices also tend to vary depending on the area and season.

Most B&Bs have simple accommodations, but they have a natural French flair. Typically a B&B offers lunch for around 5 euros and dinner for around 15 euros. In these hotels, coziness, comfort and cleanliness in most cases are much higher than standard. This is due, first of all, to the fact that a unified system for evaluating Bed and Breakfast has not yet been developed.

The main distinguishing feature of B&B hotels is the management structure and the small number of rooms. In world hotel practice, the main requirement for those hotels that want to be considered a Bed and Breakfast is management. The hotel must be managed exclusively by the owner of the house or members of his family. If a B&B hotel receives professional management, it is considered only as a mini-hotel or guest house.

The advantages of the Bed and Breakfast system lie not only in the price of the rooms. Often, B&B owners offer their clients a lot of additional services, starting with excursions around sights of Paris and ending with learning crafts. In addition, each B&B is practically an exclusive museum. Here you can see and appreciate not only the design skills of the hotel owners, but also get acquainted with local traditions and rituals.

Embroidery, figurines, tools and cooking style - in many B&B hotels, the way of life shows national identity much more deeply than various educational television programs. Currently, the largest concentration of Bed and Breakfast hotels (Europe) is located in the UK, Spain, Italy, Greece and of course in France. In total, there are over 50 thousand Bed and Breakfast hotels on the planet.

Very often, B&B hotels are located in private houses, the owners of which rent out some rooms only during the favorable season. This method of accommodation at the resort is available, including in Ukraine and Russia. However, it should be taken into account that the comfort and services in Ukrainian and Russian B&B hotels are significantly inferior to their European counterparts, and prices are often even higher.

Over the past ten years, guides to Bed and Breakfast hotels have been constantly published for lovers of budget travel. There are hundreds of resources on this type of temporary residence on an ongoing basis on the Internet, the most famous of which are agoda.com and booking.com.

Hotels in Greenland The island of Greenland belongs to Denmark, so the local level of hotels is similar to hotels on the mainland. Breakfast is included in the room price (bed and breakfast system), the highest category of hotels on the island is “4 stars”. In Greenland's largest city, Nuuk, there are private guesthouses where you will be seated at the table with family members. Instead of a continental breakfast, you can try local delicacies: seal, walrus or whale meat. Attractions of Greenland Most people know about Greenland only that it exists and where it is located. And also that it is the largest island in the world. More than 80% of the country's territory is covered by a thick glacier; life is possible only on the coast of the country. Small towns are surrounded by ascetic Scandinavian architecture. The walls and roofs of the houses are painted in bright colors. According to local residents, living in a bright house helps to better cope with the polar nights, when the sun appears for a couple of hours a day. So the main attractions of Greenland are its nature. More precisely, the surrounding landscape. Greenland National Park is a major natural gem. The largest and most inaccessible nature reserve on the planet. This park is home to polar bears, musk ox, polar owls and wolves. In the city of Nuuk (the local “capital”) there are many observation platforms where you can watch the sea and admire the surrounding landscapes. It is correct to call Greenland “a place for the sake of a place.” The fact that people live safely in such a harsh place is a unique attraction. Museums of Greenland By European standards, the size and collections of local museums are quite modest. By visiting the Greenland National Museum, you will learn how to live in conditions of eternal cold, how many dogs should be in a sled, how the first settlers of Greenland lived, what paintings by local Greenlandic artists look like. Art Center Katuaq is an ode to contemporary art in the best European traditions. There are many workshops, exhibitions, lecture halls and a cinema.

The basis of the cultural life of the islanders. Resorts of Greenland There are no resorts here. Local residents vacation in neighboring (relatively, of course) Iceland (which was also once a possession of Denmark). Leisure in Greenland Meeting the Eskimos, traveling through cities, walking on a snow scooter or dog sled (whichever you prefer), tasting local cuisine, excursion to a fishing boat, fishing (fishing without a license is punishable severely, you can buy it in any tourist center) - main attractions for tourists. Greenland has the brightest northern lights in the world. Transport in Greenland In cities, local residents travel by car or snow scooter. There are no roads between cities at all. Everyone gets there by water or air. Greenland has its own airline, Air Greenland, which organizes flights between cities. There are no direct flights to Greenland from Russia. You can get to the island with transfers in Denmark or Iceland. Standard of living in Greenland Fishing and financial subsidies from Denmark are the main income of the island. Local residents fish, fish processing and sheep farming. One of the safest places in the world. Even a simple theft in a store will become a sensation; it will definitely be shown on TV. There is a university in Greenland, however, there are very few students there due to the fact that any resident of the island can study for free at universities in Denmark. Cities of Greenland Nuuk is the largest city in Greenland. 25 thousand people live here, and Santa Claus also lives here. The most ancient city, economic and cultural center. The city of Qaqortoq is the second most populous (3,500 thousand people live here). Founded in the 18th century. Pleasant and clean port city.

Which Greenland resort to choose?
Skiing is gaining popularity on the island, and there are ski resorts in almost every town in Greenland. Almost every city has ski lifts, for example, Nuuk has 3 ski lifts and 6 pistes. Moreover, you can ride in Greenland not only in winter, but also in summer. For example, in Apissuit Adventure Camp, it is located 25 km from Manitsok, on the top of a glacier, you can go skiing in the summer. Cross-country skiing competitions take place in Greenland every year.
Dog sledding is a wonderful form of active recreation. There are many interesting trails on the east coast, around Tasilak, Sisimuit, Qeqertarssuaq. On the west coast around Kangerdlugssuaq and along the edge of the ice sheet in the south. In summer you can ride deep into the glacier, to Lingmarksbrøen.
You can admire thousands of ice icebergs of different sizes by visiting Disko Bay. This is one of the most famous bays of Greenland, along the shores of which coastal glaciers slide into the sea at a speed of up to 30 meters per day.
Greenland resorts offer hiking trails. The trails from Qaqortq to Igalik and Kassiarsuik (south of the island) and from Kangerdlugssuaq to Sisimuit, around Tasilak, along the island of Angmagssalik and others are excellent for trekking.

Just an hour's drive south of the American city of Boston, in the state of Massachusetts, there is a small town called Fall River. The city is actually small, with a population of less than a hundred thousand, and there is nothing notable about it, except that the picturesque Taunton River brightens up the local landscape. It was once the center of the textile industry of the United States and Fall River had a great future ahead of it. However, a lot of water has flown under the bridge since then, and the city has not received any grandiose development.

True, there is something attractive here for lovers of the unknown and the paranormal. Those in the know immediately guessed that we were talking about the legendary house of Lizzie Borden, inhabited by the ghosts of its former owners. The story is similar to a good, very high-quality detective story, although everything really happened.

Little Lizzie, like her sister, Emma, was born into the family of a wealthy, but rather stingy, American citizen. Fate did not allow the children to enjoy their mother's affection and love; when Lizzie was only two years old, her mother ordered her to live long, and her father did not grieve for his deceased wife, but immediately found a replacement for her. The stepmother was domineering, nasty, picky and extremely greedy.

The stern woman, who did not recognize anyone but herself as loved, somehow did not immediately accept the tiny girls, and communication boiled down to instructions on what, how and when they should do. Lizzie was a good, obedient girl, she did everything that her stepmother wished for her and did not complain about her fate, managing to cheer up her younger sister.

One day a real tragedy unfolded in the house. Suspecting that her stepmother was slowly poisoning her father, as well as themselves, Lizzie tried to eat only things that were difficult to poison, for example, bread, eggs, fruits, but one day she really became seriously poisoned, so much so that she could barely get out of bed . Neither her father nor Emma were at home at that time, and Lizzie was resting in her room. When her father returned, Lizzie went out to meet him and, putting him to rest on the couch, went back to her room.

It was the girl who came out a little later and discovered the corpse of her father, hacked to death with an ax. Lizzie sent the maid for the doctor, the police also came, and it was they who also discovered the body of Mrs. Borden, also killed with an ax to the head. At first, of course, Lizzie herself was accused of murder, but then the jury acquitted her, and she inherited her father's inheritance, and sold the ill-fated house, moving with her sister to another. However, many are still confident in the girl’s guilt, but it is no longer possible to find out how it actually happened.

The former Borden home itself still stands today and is now home to a hotel-museum called Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast. There are eight rooms where you can stay, but for some reason the residents don’t stay for more than a day. They say that ghosts walk there, stomp their disembodied feet, yell and scream wildly, sometimes a child cries and women’s sobs are heard, doors open and close on their own. Don't believe me? You have the opportunity to check it yourself.
