  1. The passenger must notify the carrier of the termination of the contract no later than one day before the end of check-in for the flight.
  2. The refund amount is calculated as the cost of the ticket minus the costs incurred by the carrier.
  3. If the passenger notifies the airline less than 24 hours before the end of check-in, the refund amount is reduced by 25% (for example: from 10 thousand rubles to 7.5 thousand rubles).
  4. The carrier has the right not to pay money if the client decides to terminate the contract of carriage after the end of check-in for the flight. It turns out that if you missed the plane, you will be refunded exactly 0 rubles for the ticket. 0 kopecks.
  5. The contract can be concluded with the condition of non-refund of the amount paid for the ticket. We are talking about a 100% non-refund of the money spent.

Of course, the state provided for the option of a forced refusal to travel by air due to the death of a close relative. But even here there are “buts” - you will have to notify the carrier 24 hours before departure, and the fact of death will still need to be documented. This exception applies to both refundable and non-refundable tickets.

How to refund the cost of an air ticket purchased from Aeroflot

In June 2014, Aeroflot announced the introduction of non-refundable tickets at the Budget and Promo fares. The announcement was made immediately after the corresponding changes in the RF VK.

The innovation also affected the Optimum tariff. A fixed penalty for the return was set (instead of the old 25%). At the same time, the company clarified that a warning about the refusal of transportation less than 40 minutes before the set limit automatically transfers the ticket to the status of “non-refundable”.

The Aeroflot website indicates the option of returning tickets on-line, that is, without visiting offices. To do this, you will have to call the Information and Reservation Service call 8-800-444-5555.

  • According to the legislation of the Russian Federation, you can return tickets for which transportation begins in Russia, so this method does not work if you are flying from some other country.
  • In a situation where several tickets were purchased, and only one of them needs to be returned, a disconnection operation must be performed before issuing a refund, since the entire reservation will be canceled by default. Call the call center and ask to disconnect the tickets, while each of them is assigned a separate code. Then everything is as described: issue a refund by indicating the code of the desired ticket.

A forced refund usually does not create any problems with getting the money paid back and in full, since the inconvenience arose through the fault of the airline. With a voluntary return, there are more nuances.

You can return the ticket in the same way it was purchased. For example, if you ordered it online, there is no need to go to the cashier - you can cancel it on the same website. A standard application is filled out, scanned documents are attached. Whether it will be a form on the website of an airline, a travel agency or an email address depends on the internal conditions of the service provider. The application can only be submitted by the person specified in the document, and no one can replace him.

The same article should be cited when claiming financial compensation. But its size will depend on when exactly you issue a voluntary refund of air tickets.

If an involuntary refusal is circumstances that are beyond your control, then the rules for a voluntary one are completely different. The sooner you apply, the better and more profitable for you.

By notifying the company about the cancellation of the flight a day before it, you can receive 100% compensation for the purchased ticket. If less than 24 hours remain before the flight, the company has the right to charge a fine of up to 25% of the total value of the flight coupon.

Before making a return, you need to prepare in advance the documents that you will attach to your application:

  • Airplane ticket or its data (flight and coupon number, date of departure, for whom it is issued);
  • The main document on which the ticket was issued (personal passport and its copy);
  • Purchase receipt.

Asking whether it will be possible to claim compensation if the flight is canceled and the plane tickets are returned only with a passport, the answer will be negative. Non-refundable tickets

  • Illness with hospitalization;

The lower the price of the air ticket, the more difficult it will be to return the money for it, even if the flight coupons were purchased in cash.


If everything is done on time, all the papers are available, you will be compensated for the cost of the flight coupon. The term for the return of funds is from three to ten days.

Cancellation of a seat on a flight by phone

In some cases, it is not necessary to personally go to the airport to cancel the flight and return the money paid. If you have a reservation, you can cancel it by calling the support service number indicated on the website of the company from which you purchased the ticket. Depending on the internal conditions of this company, you will need to submit an application directly on the website by filling out an electronic form, or by writing it in any form to the specified email address.

The application will need to indicate the last name, first name, patronymic of the passenger for whom the ticket is issued, passport details, and the number of the electronic ticket. Keep in mind that after issuing a refund, you won’t be able to change your mind and cancel it, you will have to re-book and buy a ticket, and there is no guarantee that there will be empty seats.
