Where are the best beaches in Naples? All about sea holidays in Naples Beaches near Naples Italy.

Italian Naples is called by many a city of contrasts. After all, when you come here you can see the Royal Palace buildings located side by side with the poorest neighborhoods. And the luxury yachts moored in the port of the Gulf of Naples do not fit well with the piles of garbage on the embankment and city streets.

Naples is a city where you can see a huge number of attractions, as well as relax on the seashore.

Climatic features

The proximity to Vesuvius gives Naples certain climatic advantages over other Italian regions. The climate here is much milder. In general, Naples is good in any month, but the opportunity for a beach holiday does not appear until the second half of May. It is at this time that the island of Ischia near Naples opens its coasts to those who want to swim. The air temperature in Naples during the day reaches 26 degrees.

The high beach season begins in June. Daytime temperatures reach 30 degrees and rain is unlikely. July and August are the hottest months; during the day the air warms up to 37 degrees. In general, the beach season lasts here until mid-October, when the thermometer can still show 28 degrees.

Naples is a large Italian port, which, of course, is reflected in the quality of the beaches and the cleanliness of the coast within the city. When choosing Naples as a seaside holiday destination, it is worth considering the options of the surrounding beaches or nearby islands.

Surroundings of Naples with the possibility of relaxation by the sea

1. Lucrino. Located 20 km from Naples, the beach is the cleanest among the surrounding ones. An electric train runs from the city to the coast of Lucrino; travel time is no more than half an hour. Movement interval – 30 min. Entrance to the beach area is free.
2. Bagno Elena. Located in the town of Posillipo, the beach is equipped with everything necessary for a quality sea holiday. The beach is equipped with changing rooms and toilets, and there are cafes and bars. It is worth considering that from 16:00 on the coast there is almost no sun. The road to the beach will take about an hour. Departure point: Garibaldi station. The final point of the route is Mergellina station. Next, take bus number 140, which you can take at the Margolina del Leone stop, a 7-minute walk from the station, to the Posillipo stop.
3. Marina di Licola, a beach where big waves are a common occurrence. This place is loved by surfers. An ordinary beach holiday here will not bring much pleasure, because the coastal waters are not clean.
4. Sorrento resort, where you can fully swim and sunbathe in the areas of Meta, Sant'Agnello and Piano de Sorrento. You can get here by boat from the port of Beverello or in a more traditional way - by train. The train line you need is Circumvesuviana. You can find it under Naples Central Station, following the signs. A ticket to Sorrento, which is the final station, will cost 4 euros, and the journey will take no more than an hour.

5. Amalfi resorts. The local coastline is one of the most attractive in Europe; local beaches are clean and environmentally friendly. The resort area includes the city of Amalfi and Ravello, Furore and others located directly on the coastline.

However, a trip to Naples in 2019 is not only an opportunity to relax on the coastal strip. There are several islands in the area, providing guests with a high level of beach recreation and a wide range of water activities, including diving.

The port of Naples is an excellent starting point for exploring the island resorts.

Islands off the Naples coast

Capri is the most famous resort island in Italy. Almost all the beaches of the island are covered with pebbles and equipped with special bridges-stairs for access to the sea. Here is the famous Blue Grotto - a cave, the color of the water in which is an amazing, bewitching shade. The distance between Capri and Naples is 42 km. You can get to the holiday destination from the port of Beverello by ferry or boat. The cost of the trip depends on the chosen carrier company. On average, a ferry trip costs 18 euros, a boat trip is a little more expensive - 21 euros.

The island of Ischia, located 55 km from Naples, has earned popularity not only for the variety of its beach strip. An excellent addition to the sandy and pebble beaches are thermal springs, on the basis of which medicinal resorts have been created. Ferries and boats run from Beverello to Ischia. The ferry ride will take about an hour and a half, and the boat will arrive in 40 minutes. The cost of the trip varies from 17.5 to 20 euros.

Procida Island is a lesser-known and less expensive Italian island of volcanic origin. There are only a few sandy beach areas. As with the first two islands, sea communication with the island is organized by ferries and speed boats. Ticket price is 10-15 euros. Distance from Naples – 38 km.

Regardless of which resort area is chosen for a beach holiday, it is worth noting that such a trip would not be complete without getting to know Naples itself, its attractions and history. The city has many objects of historical significance. Palaces, temples, monuments - all this, coupled with various museums, deserves attention.

And getting to know the only European volcano is a mandatory element of any traveler’s program. It is not necessary to climb. It is enough to walk through the territory of the national park and see what remains of Pompeii and Herculaneum.

And by the way, Neapolitans are known for their cheerful disposition and ability to enjoy life. You can fully experience this atmosphere in one of the many cafes that you will definitely visit when going on a seaside holiday in Naples.

Numerous tourists from all over the world annually choose Naples as their holiday destination because of the excellent opportunity to combine a “cultural” holiday with a seaside holiday.

Truly, the cultural treasures of Naples are immense, these are museums, palaces, churches, parks, and the city constantly hosts interesting exhibitions and cultural events for every taste. In previous reviews of the “Tourism” section, I have already talked about the most interesting sights of Naples (,), but it would be a shame not to enjoy the hot southern sun. Where can you go to sunbathe and swim?

Let's start with the fact that in Campania you will have to pay for the beach; there are practically no so-called “wild” beaches here, and if there are, their quality is so bad that you forget to even think about it. In the summer season, entrance to the beach for 1 person costs from 10 to 20 euros, depending on the prestige of the place and the day of the week (more expensive on weekends).

Posillipo

The Posillipo area is located within the city, so many do not recommend swimming here, but there are no prohibiting signs, so if you want to take a dip and don’t have time to travel far, come here. The most famous beach is Bagno Elena, which has a wooden platform, sun loungers, changing rooms and bars. It is worth considering that at 16-17 hours the sun leaves the beach.

Lucrino

Half an hour's drive from Naples, in the Bagnoli-Pozzuoli area, is the very pleasant Lucrino beach. The sea here is much cleaner, the beach is wider and larger. There are usually fewer people in Lucrino, it is a much quieter place, despite the fact that it is located right next to the train station.

Marina di Licola

This is the only beach that I cannot recommend for swimming, the fact is that Licola belongs to an area not recommended for swimming, or, more simply, an area with dirty water. However, this does not stop anyone. In addition, I will add that on Likola the sea is very shallow and you need to walk a fair distance through the water to where the depth begins, at least up to your neck. But this is the only place where you can see the open sea, and there are often strong waves.

Sorrento

Near Sorrento there are several good places where you can swim, for example Piano di Sorrento, Meta, Sant’Agnello. After a quarter of an hour walk down from the railway, you will find yourself in beautiful panoramic places with a pebble beach and clear blue water. In Sorrento itself there is no beach as such: concrete platforms are built above the sea, from which you need to go down the stairs into the water.

Costriera Amalfitana

When it comes to Naples and the beach resorts of Campania, the conversation often comes down to discussing the so-called Neapolitan Riviera. Of course, in this article we will not ignore such places as , , and . This is what most tourists planning a beach holiday in the vicinity of Naples focus on. However, in fairness, we note that the Campaign is not limited to them. Therefore, we will further pay attention to other interesting resorts and beaches near Naples.

We also note that the emphasis will be on the possibilities of movement through public transport (mainly railway - see www.trenitalia.com), but we will not forget about car travelers, since renting a car in Naples is not a problem (see www.rentalcars.com, www.economybookings.com, etc.).

No matter how beautiful the Tyrrhenian Sea is, it’s worth starting with the fact that the beaches of Naples and its immediate surroundings are not clean. This applies to both the sea (there is a large port nearby, and in general, the Bay of Naples is not a very favorable place from an environmental point of view) and the coast (paid beaches are usually clean, but garbage is often found on free beaches). In recent years (since the early 2000s), the situation has been gradually improving. However, if you are interested in a full-fledged beach holiday at sea, then it still makes sense to focus not on Naples itself, but on resorts further away from the capital of Campania (read about them).

As for the city beaches, in our opinion, they are of interest only as a place where you can cool off after a walk around Naples. From this point of view, it is worth paying attention first of all to private beaches Bagno Elena(Bagno Elena) and Bagno-Ideal(Bagno Ideal, also known as Lido Ideal), located in the Posillipo district, near the city center. Landmark - B&B Vista Mare, literally across the road from these two beaches. Even closer to the center of Naples, near the Rotonda Diaz square, you can find a small equipped free beach (here is a link to Google Maps), known as Mappatella(Lido Mappatella). Additionally, if interested, check out the map of Naples beaches on the website of the corresponding province (see) and the interactive map of the Italian Ministry of Health (see; in the “Comune” field, enter “Napoli”). Everything is in Italian, but it’s not difficult to understand.

Also, take a look at the immediate surroundings of Naples. For example, to the beach Lucrino(Lucrino), which is located in the town of Pozzuoli, just half an hour away by train (the entrance to the beach is literally a few steps from the Lucrino station). A little further is located Licola(Licola), where it is also convenient to travel by commuter train. If you look south of Naples, it is worth mentioning the town Torre Annunziata(Torre Annunziata), where there is a good sandy beach and where it is close at hand not only to Naples, but also to Pompeii and Vesuvius. The town itself is not lacking in attractions either. The location is convenient. True, the far from clean Sarno River flows into the sea nearby. In a word, it is quite possible to sunbathe here, but it is better to refrain from regular swimming, as, in general, in Lucrino and Likola.

Stands apart Sorrento(Sorrento). On the one hand, there is almost no place to swim in the city itself. One of the few exceptions is the tiny pebble and rocky beach at the La Tonnarella hotel (by the way, guests of the Desiree and Boutique Hotel Helios also have access to this beach). On the other hand, there are places nearby such as Meta(Meta) And Marina di Puolo(Marina di Puolo), where the situation with the beaches is better. In addition, the sea in the vicinity of Sorrento is considered much cleaner (the Marina di Puolo beach still has a blue flag) than in all the above-mentioned places. You can get to Sorrento from Naples in just over an hour on the Circumvesuviana railway (see www.eavsrl.it). Meta is located on the same railway line, a little short of Sorrento. Marina di Puolo, in turn, is about 10 minutes' drive from the center of Sorrento. The most convenient way to travel is by taxi.

The islands of Ischia and Capri, located at the entrance to the Gulf of Naples, are, by and large, also not far from Naples. But you can’t get to them by train, and in general, the islands are a separate issue.

From the point of view of a beach holiday, the greatest interest is Ischia (Isola di Ischia), which, by the way, is known not only as a seaside resort, but also as a thermal resort. You can relax here both in winter and summer. However, next we will focus on the beaches, since there are many of them in Ischia.

The easiest way to get to places from Naples Ischia Porto, Casamicciola Terme and Forio. See the websites of the following transport companies:

If your priority is a beach holiday, then you should focus primarily on Ischia Porto and Forio, since they have good sandy beaches. (There are also beaches in Casamicciola, but they are rather mediocre.)

So, in Ischia Porto(Ischia Porto) The main city beach begins almost at the port. You can stop somewhere nearby. There are good hotels: for example, Aragona Palace Hotel&Spa or, a cheaper option, Hotel Rivamare. The beach here is sandy and quite spacious; there are both equipped paid areas and free ones. True, the sea is quite shallow and the water is far from the cleanest. Therefore, if you are going to not only sunbathe on the shore, but also swim in the sea, then it is better to focus on a place that is a little more distant from the port, but much more conducive to swimming Fisherman's Beach(Spiaggia dei Pescatori). Nearby is, for example, a good three-star hotel Ulisse. There are even more interesting options nearby: if your budget allows, pay close attention to the five-star Grand Hotel Excelsior and Grand Hotel Il Moresco. They are beautiful in themselves, and are located extremely conveniently.

If speak about Forio(Forio), then here it is worth keeping in mind first of all the beach in the town Chiaya(Spiaggia della Chiaia), north of the port. Here you can find excellent hotels, like Hotel Tritone Resort&Spa, and apartment complexes: see in particular Residence La Rotonda Sul Mare and Residence Le Vigne.

There are other beaches in Ischia that can be reached by taxi through the same Ischia Porto, Forio and Casamicciola. Some hotels offer transfers (often free) to guests. In addition, public transport runs around the island (see www.eavsrl.it). So it’s quite within reach and San Montano(San Montano), And Chitara(Citara), And Sant'Angelo(Sant'Angelo), and other interesting places.

Capri (Isola di Capri) is much smaller than Ischia, the shores here are rocky, and therefore there are no long sandy beaches in principle. However, on this island you can find excellent places for a beach holiday. Plus, the sea in Capri is noticeably cleaner than in the Ischia area (at least, there is practically no sand in the water), not to mention the immediate vicinity of Naples. True, the hotels here are not affordable for everyone, and using the beach infrastructure will not be cheap (although there are also free coastal areas). If this doesn’t bother you, then take a closer look, for example, at the four-star hotel Relais Maresca, which is literally a few steps from the port Marina Grande(Marina Grande) and a nearby beach (pebbles). A more budget option in the same area is Hotel Belvedere e Tre Re. The downside is that it is quite noisy and crowded. As an alternative, you can consider the Weber Ambassador Hotel, where you can walk to a small pebble beach Marina Piccolo(Marina Piccolo). However, perhaps the most interesting beaches of Capri are located in small cozy coves and other secluded corners, which are often easier to reach from the sea (i.e. by boat) than from land. Among the more or less accessible places, we note the pebble beach Bagni di Tiberio(Bagni di Tiberio), a little away from the Marina Grande port (here is a link to Google Maps), two rocky beach platforms - Da-Luigi-ai-Faraglioni(Da Luigi ai Faraglioni) and Fontelina(La Fontelina)) – near the Faraglioni rocks (link) and a similar beach Lido del Faro(Lido del Faro), next to the lighthouse (link).

In any case, it’s worth going to Capri for Capri itself, and it makes sense to consider the beaches only as a pleasant addition. You can get there from Naples by water (see the same sites as in the case of Ischia, + www.navlib.it). You can sail to Capri from both Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. Buses run around the island (see www.capri.com for schedule).

Finally, at the end of the conversation about the islands, let's say a few words about the island Procida(Isola di Procida), where the prison was located until the end of the 20th century. Apparently, this is why this island is not so widely known among tourists and to this day is not very popular. Meanwhile, Procida also has some good sandy beaches (we especially note Chiaiolella beach, Spiaggia della Chiaiolella), and quite decent accommodation options: see, for example, the Albergo La Vigna hotel (near the main port), or the La Capannina guest house (a stone's throw from the aforementioned Chiaolella beach).

Amalfitana (Costiera Amalfitana) is one of the most delicious morsels of the Tyrrhenian coast. The place is famous, popular, crowded and not at all cheap, but that doesn’t make it any less attractive. It is very beautiful here: stunning nature and extremely colorful towns scattered along the rocky coast make an indelible impression. Sea, sun, rocks and breathtaking views. All this is Amalfitana. Just what you need if your summer vacation doesn’t come down to continuous lying on the beach. To fully enjoy this incredible place, you will have to walk a lot - climb endless steep stone stairs, wander along winding mountain paths. And then you will bring back from your trip to the sea not only a bronze tan, but also unforgettable memories.

If we talk about the beaches, in this area they are mostly sand and pebbles and not too long. In the summer months (especially July and August) there are not just a lot of people, but a lot of people. However, if you decide to stay in one of the towns of Amalfi, you will find yourself in a better position than tourists who come here one day - it will be much easier to find a free place even on free beaches, not to mention the fact that some hotels have their own beaches.

You can get directly from Naples to the resorts of the Amalfi Coast by buses of the transport company Sita Sud (see in particular route 5020 at www.sitasudtrasporti.it) - the ride is about two hours. But these buses do not run very often. In addition, at the height of the season there is always a risk of getting stuck in a traffic jam. This should also be taken into account if you plan to travel by car, as well as the fact that the local roads are very winding and narrow - even for experienced drivers, they are not easy to drive on. Fortunately, you can get to the Amalfi towns with a transfer to Salerno, which is no less convenient than going directly. Numerous trains and trains run between Naples and Salerno. Moreover, you can get to Salerno both from the main railway station Napoli Centrale and from many other stations like Napoli Montesanto, etc. It’s not even that far from Rome – about two to three hours (depending on the type of train). From Salerno train station, in turn, numerous buses depart in the direction of Amalfi. In the end, you can always order a transfer either from Naples or directly from the airport (see).

Amalfi(Amalfi), as you might guess, is the main city of the Amalfi Coast. You should definitely visit here, as well as the neighboring village of Atrani. In addition, it is convenient to go on excursions around the surrounding area from here. And there are beaches in Amalfi. Therefore, if you want to combine a passive beach holiday with active trips around Amalfi, then, without further ado, you can stop here. Local hotels certainly cannot be called cheap. But if you are not particularly strapped for money, then do not fail to pay attention to hotels such as Hotel Marina Riviera (literally a few steps from the main city beach), Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi and Hotel Luna Convento (both are also close to the sea, but slightly away from the center). Somewhat cheaper is the Residence Hotel, which also boasts an excellent location. An even cheaper option is Residenza Sole. If you wish, you can find more or less budget apartments and guest houses in Amalfi. Just don't delay making your reservation. The sooner you take care of this issue, the better.

Another quite suitable place for a beach holiday is Positano(Positano). This is again a rather expensive resort. So, if you decide to stay at hotels like Le Sirenuse, Covo Dei Saraceni or Buca Di Bacco, then be prepared to part with a pretty penny. Far from being cheap, but no less interesting, the Villa Costanzo apartments are in the very center of resort life, with windows facing directly onto the beach.

However, for more economical travelers, there are some options if you book in advance. Pay attention, for example, to the three-star Hotel Pupetto and the guest house La Dolce Vita a Positano, located somewhat further from the central part of Positano - good options in terms of price/quality ratio, especially considering that they are very close Fornillo beach (Spiaggia di Fornillo). In the center of Positano, it is worth checking out the small hotels Villa Maria Antonietta, La Tavolozza Residence and Villa Flavio Gioia.

Of course, there are other beaches on the Amalfi Coast. At least two more towns deserve mention: Majori(Maiori) And Minori(Minori). Compared to Amalfi and Positano, these are much more affordable resorts and even four-star hotels (for example, Hotel San Francesco and Hotel Panorama) are relatively inexpensive here. Even cheaper are numerous family hotels like La casa D'a...mare, apart-hotels (as an option, Aparthotel Santa Tecla) and private apartments (for example, Casa Elena, etc.).

The Cilento coast (Costiera Cilentana), south of Salerno, is perhaps inferior to both the islands and Amalfi in terms of the development of tourist infrastructure. However, in terms of the quality of the beaches, Cilento is at least no worse. The sea here is very clean, and there is plenty of natural beauty (b O Most of the coast belongs to the natural national park - Parco Nazionale del Cilento, Vallo di Diano e Alburni), as well as man-made heritage. In addition, there are not as many tourists in Cilento as in the resorts of Amalfi, and prices are noticeably lower. In a word, Cilento is even better suited for a purely beach holiday than the Amalftan coast.

The beaches in Cilento are mostly sandy, but pebbles are sometimes found - in Sapri(Sapri), For example. There are plenty of interesting resorts. This and Paestum(Paestum), And Agropolis(Agropoli), and the surrounding area of the town Castellabate(aka Castellabate, Castellabate), And Marina di Ascea(Marina di Ascea), And Cape Palinuro(Capo Palinuro), And Marina di Camerota(Marina di Camerota), And Villamare(Villamare), and many, many others.

It is most convenient to get to Agropoli, Asceia and Sapri by public transport, since each of these cities has a railway station, from where it is not far from the sea. Paestum station is located a little less conveniently - about three kilometers from the sea and beaches.

Agropolis(Agropoli), probably the busiest resort. In addition to beaches, you can find interesting historical sights, numerous restaurants, shops (from grocery supermarkets to tiny antique shops) and even discos. Also, throughout the summer season, open-air concerts and other cultural and entertainment events are held in Agropoli. There are relatively few hotels here, but their lack is compensated by small family guest houses and apartments. In a word, there are quite a lot of options worthy of attention: see, for example, Palazzo Dogana Resort www.interhome.ru, where you can rent an apartment or villa for your vacation.

Finally, let's turn our attention to the northern part of Campania, the coast of which is usually called Domitian (Costiera Domiziana). There are beach resorts here too. True, they are not very popular among tourists, the resort infrastructure in this area is not very well developed, and it is inconvenient to travel here by public transport. Therefore, Domitiana is of interest primarily to those who plan to travel around Italy by car.

Among the local resorts, we note such places as Baia Domizia(Baia Domizia), Mondragone(Mondragone), Villaggio Coppola(Villaggio Coppola) And Castel Volturno(Castel Volturno). All of these are quite quiet, modest and inexpensive resorts, by and large nothing special. The beaches here are sandy and wide, the sea is shallow. In short, the places are suitable for a relaxing beach holiday, but nothing more. This is probably why there are few hotels in all of the listed towns, and there are few options worthy of attention. But there are some very nice and not at all expensive villas and apartments. Here are some examples: Villa Ferrero and Heart of The Pine in Baia Domizia, Mansarda Vintage in Mondragon, Villa Marina (here, by the way, you will be perfectly understood in Russian, if this is important to you) and Beach House Scalzone in Castel Volturno. Good options for a relaxed family holiday on the shores of the Tyrrhenian Sea, especially if you want to save a little money.

Resorts of Italy on the Tyrrhenian Sea

Neapolitan Riviera.

Naples is the kingdom of eternal celebration and music. The San Carlo Opera House was built under Charles III of Bourbon in the 18th century. It is believed that architecture is frozen music. For those who want to “see the music” and “hear the dance,” Naples is the most “Italian” of all the cities in Southern Italy with its restless inhabitants. Naples is especially beautiful in the spring, when nature wakes up and the time of flowering of acacias, magnolias and wisterias comes.

Naples is the capital of the Campania region and the third largest city after Rome and Milan.

Naples Airport is located within the city.

The double-headed volcano Vesuvius is one of the most dangerous volcanoes in Europe and the only one that allows people to live on it! Vesuvius writes history, influences destinies and gives life! There is a volcanic observatory on the hill of Vesuvius, where seismologists monitor its breathing daily. History includes about 80 volcanic eruptions. Since 1944, Mount Vesuvius has been dormant (the last major eruption was on March 29, 1944). On November 23, 1980, an earthquake of magnitude 6.8 occurred south of Naples, covering an area of 26 thousand sq. km. (from Naples to Potenza) and claimed the lives of 3 thousand people. During this earthquake, the last (chair) lift to Mount Vesuvius was destroyed!

Today Naples is two and a half thousand years old! According to the latest census (2008), Naples is the most populous city in Europe! More than 1 million 200 thousand people live here on an area of 118 thousand square meters. km. (3 million including suburbs).

Naples was founded by the Greeks in the 5th century BC. The Romans, Barbarians (tribes from the Crimean Peninsula), and Byzantium left their mark on the history of Naples. The Watchtowers indicate that the cities of Naples were subject to raids by Saracens and pirates between the 6th and 16th centuries.

The golden age of the Bourbon dynasty gradually transformed the face of Naples, leaving descendants with luxurious architectural monuments that amaze with their amazing beauty.

Coserta is the royal residence of the Neapolitan Bourbon dynasty, which is located 30 km from Naples. Coserta is the largest country palace in Europe, surpassing in scale the fabulous Versailles in the suburbs of Paris. The palace in Coserta is a symbol of the new Bourbon dynasty, the greatness of royal power that lasted more than a century.

Ferdinand IV of Bourbon was the first to rule his kingdom from here. He was related to King Louis XIV of France. The palace was built in 28 years by the second half of the 18th century, and the first stone of its foundation was laid in 1734 by Charles III (father of Ferdinand IV). The palace's lobby is truly an architectural marvel, resembling an ancient temple with columns and pilasters made of local marble and a marble ceiling that is said to rotate on its axis. The huge staircase with luxurious decor, leading to the Royal Apartments, which is crowned with a sculpture of the king seated on a lion, amazes the imagination of tourists. Musicians sat in a special gallery right at the ceiling. The courtiers and guests were mesmerized by the spectacle: music accompanied every step of the king as he climbed the stairs to his chambers.

The palace consists of 1200 rooms and 200 meters of corridors. Court life was in full swing here. The walls are decorated with paintings from the life of the king: hunting scenes and military battles. In the 1770s, it was fashionable to have feasts and live in the French way. The palace already had a running water supply with hot and cold water. Neo-classicism is a movement in architecture that originated in Coserte.

The Royal Theater is one of the wonders of the palace. Its feature is unique: the curtain rises and a view of the park opens, playing the role of a natural theatrical backdrop, stretching three kilometers into the distance. The park, covering 120 hectares, was planned by the architect Luigi Vanvitelli. A rich feast of architecture reigns here: antique columns, sculptures, statues and fountains. A special role in the park was given to water as a source of life. Water symbolized the connection between the sovereign and his subjects. To transport water (40 km), Italian engineers created the Aqueduct - a masterpiece of an irrigation system.

An attraction of the palace and park complex is a huge pond on which naval battles were held. The island in the middle of the pond was considered a secluded boudoir for the queen and court ladies. And today, among the dense thickets of the park, the mirrors of the blue-and-white mosaic of numerous reservoirs framed by the green lawns of the fields sparkle and artificial terraces rise from which cascades of waterfalls rush down.

The palace and park ensemble in Coserta was included in UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1997. Today it is a palace-museum and thousands of tourists can admire this man-made miracle of luxury.

  • Castel del Ora (Castle of the Egg) is the oldest castle in Naples, rising on the island of Megaris hundreds of meters from the coast, and connected to land by a narrow bridge. The cards of the Angevin rulers of the 14th century entered through the gates of the port of Santa Lucia. The ancient Chapel of the Savior and the Museum of Ancient History are the pearls of the building. The armory terrace is the highest point of the castle;
  • Royal Palace (Palazzo Reale), whose 17 rooms are decorated with paintings and architecture. National Library and Villa of the Papyri (500 papyri, some of which date back to the 3rd century BC);

Naples is a city with high criminal activity and a large number of unemployed people. The pattern of Naples thievery is legendary. The “homo touristicus” here must keep bags and jewelry “locked.”

Naples is unique: it attracts and repels at the same time.

If anyone has forgotten that Naples is the second largest seaport in Italy, then the proximity of the sea is reminded by the frantic sound of the surf in the reefs and the winding passage that leads to the Gulf of Naples.

Naples is especially beautiful at sunset: a gray haze of fog rises from behind the mountains, which slowly spreads over the Tyrrhenian Sea and obscures the milky pink blue of the bay. The yachts seem golden in the last rays of the ancient star!

The Sorrento Peninsula is the main attraction of southern Italy.

It includes a large area extending from the resort of Vico Equense to the town of Massa Lubrense.

Sorrento is an unusual and mysterious city Italian province of Campania, which lies on a rocky 50-meter hill of volcanic tuff. It seemed to “hover” between land and sea, like a raft that could not land on the shore.

Sorrento is located in the northern part of the peninsula of the same name, 50 km from Naples. The population of the seaside resort is about 18 thousand people. Amazing views of the Bay of Naples and the double-headed cone Mount Vesuvius also open from the windows of the private train (almost a metro), which connects Naples with the suburbs of Sorrento.

Sorrento resort- at the same time the personification of fragility, grace, beauty, confidence and energy. According to legend, the magical voices of the Sirens called to Homer’s Odysseus, but he did not succumb to their spell. Throughout the centuries, Sorrento has attracted the world's creative elite.. Russian painter Sylvester Shchedrin and writer Ivan Turgenev conveyed the special flavor of the romantic town in their masterpieces.

A very strong liqueur, Limoncello, is produced here - the main souvenir of these places.

There are almost no sandy beaches here. Tourists are impressed by Marina della Lobra - the coastal part of the city with a bay and several beaches.

Once again evening falls over the Bay of Naples, casting an orange glow to the west where the gently sloping coastline of Italy's Campania region disappears to be reborn by the jagged ridges of Ischia and Capri, bristling with pine forests and Mediterranean vegetation.

Island of Capri.

Capri is small in size (compared to Ischia) and the only island of the Gulf of Naples in the Tyrrhenian Sea that is not of volcanic origin. It was once part of the Sorrento Peninsula, but due to seismic activity the topography of the coastline changed and this section of land, consisting mainly of calcareous rocks, separated from the continent.

The island of Capri is part of the Italian region of Campania, province of Naples. The island of Capri is located 6 km from the coast with a cape jutting into the sea on the Sorrento Peninsula and 35 km from the port city of Naples. A water pipeline was laid along the bottom of the Gulf of Naples from the continent to Capri.

The area of the island of Capri is about 11 square meters. km, where 15 thousand indigenous people live. The average winter temperature is + 17C. Summer in Capri is dry and hot, with almost no rain. Heat above +30C is well tolerated here due to the proximity of the sea.

In ancient times, the island of Capri was inhabited by the Greeks and Romans, and from the end of the 19th century, rich people began to buy land here and a tourism boom began.

Tourism in Capri is the main source of income for the island.

What to do in Capri? The main thing is the amazingly beautiful sea!

Sailing, windsurfing, diving, football, volleyball, basketball, tennis, equestrian sports and horse riding, handball - all this is provided to the services of vacationers!

Capri is a temple of the “goddess of nature” with the clearest sea, where the bottom is visible even at a depth of 10 meters! The outline of the island looks like a lying woman!

Capri is an island of mermaids and rocks randomly protruding from the sea!

In summer, the water is covered with white boats and yacht sails, like giant water lilies!

Emperor Augustus named the island Capri - “a paradise of idleness” and left to his descendants a man-made example of nature - the gardens of Augustus.

The island of Capri, like a magnet, attracted not only the emperors Augustus and Tiberius during the Roman Empire, but also the creative elite of the planet (since the 19th century), who drew inspiration here. The sights and nature of the island of Capri were admired by the Russian intelligentsia: Bunin, Turgenev, Shchedrin, Aivazovsky, Tchaikovsky, Chaliapin, Gorky, Lenin.

The coastline of the island of Capri is indented with caves and grottoes.

The Blue Grotto is the most favorite tourist attraction, which can be accessed through a narrow passage by boat from the sea.

City of Capri– the center of the island and its capital (8 thousand inhabitants).

This picturesque village is decorated with ancient houses, towers, churches and modern private villas.

City of Anacapri– the second most populous and visited city on the island (7 thousand inhabitants). It is located on a hill and towers above the capital itself.

By funicular (cable car) from Anacapri you can climb to the highest point of the island of Capri - Monte Solaro (589 meters above sea level). From here, the observation deck offers the best views of the sea cliffs of the Faraglioni, the port of Marina Piccola, Naples and the volcano Vesuvius.

The island of Capri has two ports on the north coast:

  • Marina Grande is a port built in 1928, where ferries and hydrofoils dock from Sorrento (20 minutes on the road) and the port of Molo Beverello of Naples (40 minutes on the road);
  • Marina Piccola is the departure point for sea excursions, including to the famous Faraglioni reefs.

Sights of the island of Capri:

  • Piazza Umberto Primo (Piazzetta) is a place of social gatherings and the most “expensive” place for tourists’ wallets, because boutiques of famous Italian brands are concentrated here. In the center of the square is the Clock Tower and the Church of Santo Stefano. Cerio Palace (14th century) – museum of the scientist Ignacio Cerio;
  • The funicular will take you to the Piazzetta from the port of Marina Grande in 5 minutes, covering a distance of 650 meters;

  • Natural Arch;
  • Faraglioni Reefs - 3 rocks off the coast protruding from the depths of the sea, the largest of which is 110 meters;
  • “Blue Grotto” (Grotta Azzurra) is a beautiful karst cave from the sea side, discovered in 1826 by a German tourist, poet August Kopisch.

The best beaches on the island of Capri:

  • Pebble, with individual strips of sand, in the port of Marina Piccola;
  • Rocky platform of Faro Punta Carena beach and lighthouse (1866);
  • At the Faraglioni rocks and the Blue Grotto.

Beaches filled with sun loungers and umbrellas are not for the island of Capri!

Sunbathing and the clear emerald sea are the key to a great mood surrounded by fabulous landscapes of small coves!

The hotels are located far from the sea, so you need to get to the beaches by cable cars, buses or boats, but it's worth it!

The small island of Capri resembles a crown of emeralds under the rays of the setting sun! Stay at least one night in Capri to admire the island's unforgettable sunset!

Free beaches in Naples summer season - 2017, photo

Naples offers many opportunities for swimming and relaxation this summer in beautiful places on its coast.

In addition to the famous beaches, the city has several places where you can swim and sunbathe free of charge, some of them equipped with bathrooms and showers.

By far the most beautiful coastline is the one located from Mergelline to Posillipo. The stunning coastline offers coves and beaches, some of which can only be reached by boat, but tourists and visitors can also enjoy the beautiful beaches on the Bacoli coast. Bagnoli's public beach has also been reopened since June, although its waters are currently unsafe for swimming.

We bring to your attention an overview of the free beaches of Naples:

Beach at Rotunda Diaz, also known as Lido Mappatella. The beach was named when it was considered the dirtiest and most unsuitable, but now it is an organized beach of the municipality of Naples.

Largo Nazario Sauro- the beach is located near Castel dell'Ovo, next to the fountain "Fontana dell'Immacolatella". Its surface consists of hard rock materials, so it is recommended to bring your own shoes to feel comfortable on its stones.

Largo Sermoneta- public beach located at the junction of Posillipo and Mergellina streets. The beach is very convenient because it has boat rentals that you can use to sail to the reefs.

Named after the column located between Caracciolo and Partenopeia streets, which is dedicated to those who died at sea. The beach has both sand and stone surfaces, just like Rotunda Diaz, and it is also always crowded.

The beach is easily accessible from the famous Lido Sirena Posillipo. “Nuns’ Beach” is known for its exceptionally clear blue-green sea, which is the envy of many overseas beaches.

Riva Fiorita- it can be reached by boat or on foot, along the long Via Ferdinando Russo down the hill. It offers one of the most beautiful views of the Bay of Naples and is surrounded by majestic historical buildings. The beach is located at the foot of the ancient tower of Villa Volpicelli, known as the "Place in the Sun" and is very popular among Neapolitan swimmers.

Gaiola- here you can sail towards Vesuvius and towards the square overlooking the famous villa in the sea. In order to get to this beach, you must present an accreditation document, since its territory is a protected marine zone.

Bagnoli city beach- the beach is equipped with a shower and a bath, and since this summer it has become accessible to the public again, as fresh sand has been brought to it. Unfortunately, you can only sunbathe on it, as there is a ban on swimming due to water reclamation.

Marechiaro- after crossing the famous Lido Marechiaro you can reach the rocks at the foot of the Palace of the Spirits (Palazzo degli Spiriti). This is a very picturesque place, with crystal clear water.

Spiaggia del Poggio- the beach is located in Bacoli and is considered a real oasis, a small corner of paradise. It is a few steps from the historic city center and, although not very large, allows you to relax in a beautiful bay.
