Flights from Europe to Tenerife. Air travel, airports

We tell you a diagram of how to get to Tenerife cheaply. Those who want to relax in the Canary Islands can do it quite inexpensively if they know a few secrets of how and from where to fly to this beautiful place.

Traditional airlines

From Moscow and St. Petersburg you can fly to Tenerife on flights of a variety of airlines: Iberia + Norwegian, AirBerlin, Aeroflot, Air France. A round-trip ticket usually starts from 22 thousand rubles. As you can see, the price is not the lowest, and besides, all these options are flights with rather long connections in European cities.

Sometimes you can find lower prices with traditional airlines - either due to promotions and special offers (the appearance of which we always notify our readers in the section "promotions, special offers and airline discounts"), or simply for some reason with one of the airlines good prices may appear (look for tickets for different dates on the Skyscanner metasearch engines - they look for the cheapest options among hundreds of airlines and ticket offices).

Another option is to fly on board a VIM-Avia charter airline. Non-stop flights - seven and a half hours and you are on the islands. The price of this charter varies from 14 to 30 thousand rubles for a round trip flight. Moreover, the closer the departure date, the cheaper the tickets will be. Be sure to check the prices of this airline on the website - in case you are lucky enough to find a very cheap option.

Low-cost airlines

The flight map of European low-cost airlines is very extensive, so there can be many route options to Tenerife. We will give examples of the most convenient, cheap and interesting.

Perhaps the best option would be: Riga → Dusseldorf → Tenerife (or another island). All flights are on Ryanair.

You can fly from Riga to Dusseldorf for just 26 euros:

Dusseldorf is convenient because it is a large hub: here and from here you can fly to almost anywhere in Europe at the lowest price. If you wish, you can make your transfer longer and go to the Netherlands for a couple of days, which are very close here (if you are interested, you can read all the information in our article " "). Well, from Dusseldorf you can already fly directly to the Canaries (and not only to Tenerife, for the same money you can fly to other islands):

As you can see, for 35 euros you can fly to Tenerife and Fuerteventura, and for 39 euros you can fly to Gran Canaria and Lanzarote.

You can fly back the same route, or you can fly, for example, from another island, and choose Milan (Bergamo) or some Spanish city as a transfer point. And from there you can fly to Riga, Tallinn, Tampere or other cities in the Baltic states and Finland, from which you can easily get to Russia. If you plan your route in advance and have the opportunity to slightly move and extend your travel dates, the trip will easily turn out to be extremely budget-friendly.

In our case, a flight to Tenerife from Riga via Dusseldorf will cost 60 euros. Return tickets are quite easy to find within the same amount. You can get to Riga from Moscow, St. Petersburg or Kaliningrad by bus - let’s say tickets will cost you 1,500 rubles round trip (if you catch deals, you can get it for half that price). In total, it turns out that you can get to Tenerife from Russia for only 7,500 rubles! Of course, you will spend a little more time on the road than when flying on traditional airlines directly from your city, but you will save a lot and at the same time you will be able to visit Milan, Milan or other interesting places.

In addition to Ryanair, you can also use other European airlines (easyJet, Norwegian, etc.). There are many options for cheap flights to Tenerife! Look for yours. And it’s better to buy tickets for low-cost airline flights on official websites - in the case of low-cost airlines, the lowest price will be there.

A similar scheme can be used for some other trips outside of Europe (for example, for), because almost all European low-cost airlines also fly to some countries in North Africa and the Middle East.

You can also get to the Canary Islands by ferry from many Spanish cities (after having flown there on low-cost airlines) - this will not be the cheapest, but certainly a rich option.

Surely, you will be interested in reading about (our review of the best attractions) on this island. In the "" section you can always read about the most inexpensive ways to get to your desired destination.

Sunny Tenerife - one of the most cosmopolitan resorts in Spain - is located in the central part of the Canary Islands archipelago. This is the largest island of the archipelago, offering holidays for every taste throughout the year (the air temperature here never drops below +20 °C). Since Tenerife is an island, you can get here only by air or water. The first option is direct or connecting flights provided by many airlines around the world, and the second is a ferry from mainland Spain.

By plane

There are two airports on the island - in the north and south of Tenerife. From Russia you will fly to Yuzhny (Tenerife South Airport), and if the flight is from mainland Spain or from other islands of the Canary archipelago, then to North. From Moscow Domodedovo to Tenerife without transfers you can fly in just 7 hours on flights of Aeroflot, UTair and VIM-Avia. Another option is flights with transfers, they are provided by Air Berlin, S7 Airlines, Iberia, Vueling, Alitalia, Air Europa, KLM, British Airways and others. A round-trip ticket in economy class from Moscow to Tenerife will cost approximately 560-600 EUR; for the additional comfort of business class you will have to pay more.

Prices on the page are as of September 2018.

If you are traveling around Spain and suddenly decide to visit Tenerife, it will be most convenient to use the same air flight, for example, from Barcelona.

How to get to the resorts

Airports and the main resorts of the island - Las Americas and Puerto de la Cruz - are connected by bus service. At the parking lot of the southern air hub, routes Nos. 111, 343, 415, 450, 711 await passengers; from the northern hub, routes No. 102, 107, 108, 343 await passengers. Travel cards, including BonoVia, are sold at airports, the cost of a single ticket is 9-12 EUR depending on destination. Public transport can also take you from one airport door to another.

A taxi ride is not the most budget option; it will cost 27-65 EUR.

If you have already decided to rent a car to travel around the island, everything is very simple - the car will already be waiting at the airport gate.

On a ferryboat

For those who are afraid to fly, there is a ferry that can take you to Tenerife from the Andalusian city of Cadiz (southwest Spain). Sea transport is provided by Acciona Trasmediterranea, with a ferry leaving the port of Cadiz several times a week. Of course, this pleasure is not too cheap (160-650 EUR for a round trip ticket), and the travel time will take more than a day, but in any case it is an alternative.

There is communication by water with other islands of the Canary archipelago - here flights are operated by shipping companies Naviera Armas, Fred Olsen Express and Garajonay Express. There is no need to book ferry tickets in advance - just arrive at the port about an hour before departure, there are almost always free seats. You can even transport a car by ferry if you travel this way, but you have to pay extra for this pleasure.

Flight to Tenerife!

Unfortunately, you can’t get to Tenerife by train and you can’t get by car without the help of a ferry. Therefore, the shortest way to Tenerife is by air. Basically, airlines operate flights to Tenerife and Gran Canaria (the largest islands), from where you can easily fly or sail to any Canary Island. But if you surf the Internet, you can find flights to all the islands except La Gomera, where an airport has not yet been physically built. They are trying to preserve the virgin landscape.

It is important to know!

When planning a flight to the island of Tenerife, please note that it has two airports. Tenerife Norte (TFN) is the northern airport and Tenerife Sur (TFS) is the southern airport. If the chosen hotel is located in the south, it is more convenient to book a flight to a southern airport. Although, if you plan to rent a car, there will be fewer problems. There is a highway between the south and north.

Which airline to fly to Tenerife.

For convenience, let's take Moscow as the starting point for all flights to Tenerife. In the vast majority of cases, you will still have to fly to Tenerife via the Capital. Still, it is the largest transport hub in Russia. Therefore, we believe that you will find the way to Moscow yourself, and then we will give you a little advice. Much depends on your plans, the age of the passengers and, let’s not hide, the budget allocated per tourist per capita.

If you are a reckless vagabond from the couchsurfer community who is not afraid of spending the night at airports and train stations, then you can try to get to your destination by hitchhiking and, partially, by swimming, using the services of good-natured Africans who periodically try to swim to the Canary Islands on homemade rafts. It’s another matter when you have a wife, children or friends who don’t understand the romance of free travel behind you.

Direct flights to Tenerife.

Direct flights to Tenerife are now operated by Aeroflot, which replaced the fired Transaero in this position. European companies tend to fly through airports in their own countries. Direct flights to Tenerife from Moscow operate several times a week and arrive at the southern airport of the island, Reina Sofia (aka Tenerife Sur). A convenient arrival point for those who have chosen a hotel or apartment in Tenerife on the south side of the island. It takes 15-20 minutes to get to Las Americas by car.

The flight is carried out on a comfortable wide-body Airbus, which has three rows of seats in a 2 x 4 x 2 configuration. Excellent and comfortable aircraft that carry about 250 passengers. The duration of a direct flight from Moscow to the Canary Islands is approximately 7 hours. Tickets, by the way, are not that expensive. Economy class from 20 to 25 thousand per person in both directions. But tickets should be purchased in advance, otherwise you will only be left with business class, which not everyone can afford.

Car rent!

In Iberia it is possible to check in for a flight online. This is usually possible one or two days before departure. A notification is sent by email. We recommend taking the chance to take seats near the emergency exits. This is very important on the Moscow-Madrid flight, where the distance to the front seats is very small everywhere except for the rows at the emergency exits.

Direct flights to Tenerife have both advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is obvious - you do not need to move from plane to plane at unfamiliar or unfamiliar airports, where for unknown reasons no one understands Russian. On the other hand, you are doomed to sit for seven hours almost without moving, listening to the hum of the engines and enjoying the monotonous view of the clouds. In addition, you will not be able to kill two birds with one stone in one trip by visiting the transfer city.

Flights with transfers.

If transfers don’t bother you, but you want to save on your overall travel budget at least by flying, pay attention to European airlines. One of the cheapest ways to fly to Tenerife is to use the services of the largest Spanish air carrier, Iberia. You will need to play a little with the flight dates on the website Iberia, where you can actually find tickets at a very attractive price. From Iberia you will have a transfer in Madrid.

On the Moscow-Madrid route, Iberia launches. This is a relatively small airplane with two rows of three seats. The gap between the seats is very small, it is terribly uncomfortable to sit. Neither the crew nor the flight attendants speak Russian. They understand a little English. However, what is there to understand on board? If anything, point with your finger what you need and they will bring it. The flight to Madrid takes 4.5 hours. We consider it an advantage that Iberia is served in Domodedovo, which is relatively easy to reach.

Let us describe in more detail the features of flying to Tenerife with Iberia, since it is not easy for everyone to read the website of this airline in a foreign language, and reviews about Iberia on the Internet are contradictory. First of all, you need to understand that once you pay for economy class tickets, in most cases you will not be able to cancel them. No way. The window with the inscription no refund when purchasing a ticket on the Iberia website is cleverly hidden, however, it is usually there. Therefore, pay for the ticket only after making a final decision.

Check-in for Iberia flights begins three hours and ends 45-60 minutes before departure. Given the Moscow traffic conditions, it is reasonable to plan to arrive at the Airport at the start of check-in. Don't forget to read baggage rules And hand luggage. Unaccompanied baggage must weigh no more than 23 kg and have overall dimensions (length + width + height) no more than 156 cm. The dimensions of hand luggage should not exceed 20x40x55 cm. The weight of hand luggage should not exceed 10 kg.

If it turns out that your luggage weighs at least one kilogram more than 23 kg, you will have to pay for the excess. But if it is possible to redistribute your cargo between unaccompanied baggage and carry-on baggage, step away from the check-in counter and do so. The savings will be considerable. After registration, you will need to go through customs and boarding inspection. Customs usually only looks at passports. For non-payers of fines and taxes, this is the most nerve-wracking moment, since right now they may not be allowed to leave the country, and hello to vacation.

Next, boarding control awaits you. In essence, this is a full-fledged inspection of you and your hand luggage. Everything can be seen through, including laptops and cameras. It is important not to take any tubes with liquids with you, volume more than 100 ml. Liquids include any gels, deodorants, foams, perfumes and the like. During the inspection, what is found is confiscated and thrown into the trash without talking. The exceptions are infants (they are allowed to take artificial nutrition and juices) and people with diseases that require special nutrition or treatment (for example, diabetics can bring insulin with them on the plane).

After passing through boarding control, you can breathe a sigh of relief and wait until boarding is announced, strolling through the duty free shops. In fact, it’s unlikely that you can buy anything cheaper there than at home, but this is one way to kill time. Next is the flight, budget breakfast included in your ticket and landing in Madrid. Transfers from terminal to terminal at Madrid Airport and walks around the city are described in detail in other subsections.

Flight from Madrid to Tenerife.

A much more comfortable Airbus flies from Madrid to Tenerife than the one that will take you to Madrid from Moscow. This . One of the world's longest four-engine passenger aircraft. It can carry about 400 passengers. The clearance between the rows allows you to stretch your legs freely and not rest your knees on the backs of the front seats. Tail-mounted cameras show passengers a view of the aircraft throughout the flight. In addition, to make passengers less uncomfortable, the monitors show the current location of the liner over the ocean and the estimated time until the end of the flight.

The flight from Madrid to Tenerife lasts approximately three and a half hours. Please note that this flight does not include breakfast, lunch or dinner. The stewards, of course, will walk along the rows with their grocery cart and offer to choose something from the menu that lies in the pocket of the front seat, but the cost of the dishes offered is frankly depressing. Similar dishes on earth cost 2.5-3 times cheaper. It is advisable to take food with you and buy juice or other drinks at duty free after going through boarding control.

Announcements before takeoff and landing warn that the use of mobile phones, cameras and even laptops is prohibited throughout the flight. However, we were taking pictures, the neighbor was sitting at his laptop and none of the flight attendants said anything. This means that everything is not as scary as they say, and you can take photographs on Iberia planes. Upon arrival in Tenerife there is nothing special. We get our luggage and head out into the sun and sand.

About luggage!

If you plan to check things in as Baggage (and most likely you will), do not forget to carefully pack the suitcase or bag that is not going with you. It is advisable to wrap it with stretch film at home. But, as usual, there is no stretch at home, so a similar service at the airport is at your service. True, much more expensive.

Don't neglect good packaging. Firstly, it reduces the likelihood of things being stolen from your bag. Secondly, it protects the bag itself from damage.

About agencies?

Tenerife is one of the areas where it is quite possible to do without the help of agencies. At the same time, you are not tied to any tours and decide everything yourself. The costs will be lower.

The only thing is that to plan a trip you will need at least basic knowledge of English or Spanish. If the language is difficult, you should contact an agency. Which? Well, at Natalie Tours, for example. You just need to call directly, avoiding the services of secondary agents.
